What an amazing place! They have the best salads in town, I think they use fresh vegetables and their dressings are unbelievably good.

We placed a large take out order for a party we were hosting. We picked Carmines on penn (even though it was more expensive than other local italian) because they appeared to cater towards diet restrictions. We called before we placed

I wish there were a way to give negative stars. This restaurant is a joke. Who puts chicken, shrimp and sausage together? And who calls a dish "strozzapreti" when they use spaghetti! I've had some bad italian-american food before, but this is definitely the worst. Prosciutto and melone with tasteless prosciutto and a melon harder than an unripe apple. Caprese salad with tomatoes so unripe they were yellow. The veal tasted of nothing.
People who like this place for it's food most likely also love fast food. I can see liking the atmosphere - but this place is mostly about huge greasy portions.

If you like over-price quantities of mediocre food, Carmine??s on Penn is the place for you. The Veal Parmigiana was boring with small proportions for $40. The Baked Ziti was dry with some sort of crust on the top. Certainly not worth $28. We had to order extra marinara sauce just to add some flavor. And if course the marina sauce was as unremarkable as it gets. Perhaps they haven??t heard of garlic and spices. It??s more boring than even Olive Garden. I can??t understand why this place is so popular. Perhaps they are living on their previous owners coat tails. I will never go back.

Carmine's is an amazing restaurant. My husband and I love
everything about it. Our favorite dish is the eggplant parmesan. We cannot order it anywhere else because it was soooo good here.

This is a popular place but I find it blah.

We had our company party here and were put in the back room, where it was really quiet (not in a good way). Trying to get the employees in the 'party' mood, I asked the server if they could play some music in the background, and was told that there are no speakers in the back room. Wow, way to create such great atmosphere, Carmine's.

The server was fine but she was in a pair of jeans (this was over the holidays and we were all dressed up) so I thought, would it kill her to put on a pair of black pants?

Also, I hate it when the servers tell you that 'one dish serves 2' when really one dish serves 4. The portion sizes are out of control. So then they just end up dumping the leftovers in styrofoam (not very environmental) for you to take home- and when you (try) to eat the stuff the next day it's just greasy and soggy mush.

This place seems to get away with serving average food, making people over-buy these massive platters of grease, and then making the place 'hip' by putting butcher paper on the table, which I assume just ends up in the landfill (along with all the styrofoam containers).

I don't get it.

Pros: Seems popular

Cons: Overpriced for not-so-special Italian

Is one of the first really good restaurants located in a Denver neighborhood. The Italian food is fabulous. Be prepared to eat a lot. It comes family style. The only downside is that it can be a bit noisy.

Have read all the reviews and agree that this place has amazing comfort food. Would just add that the Take-Out is the best for entertaining. Food can be ordered and picked up and tastes just as delicious at home. The large portions make it really easy to serve at a party.

This is a great place for a group of people the family style dishes are easily shared, and the atmosphere is fun. And if you are on a date a glass of wine and the Antipasto plate is all you need.

Carmines on Penn is a staple in Denver. We went recently for a birthday celebration. The staff was so attentive and gave us suggestions as to how much to order. Valet parking is great. It is great is you have a large group.

I am a manager of well known Chinese restaurant and am shocked how uninformed the assistant manager is when it comes to the menu. How can you be in a leadership position, if you can't do the job yourself? I am disappointed by his lack of knowledge. Especially since there is nothing written down except for chalkboards. Dinner was good. The food runner (tall, blond, guy) was more entertaining than anyone else there. I will only be back to ask the food runner if he wants to come work for me!
And by the way, a side of meat sauce isn't too much to ask for other restaurants would be more than happy to accommodate. That IS what we are in the biz for... accommodation!
Thanks,
B Thomlinson

Pros: Service was good

Cons: Management doesn't know the menu

.

We have been going to Carmine's since the mid 70s and watched the restaurant change over the years. Unfortunately, the new management has taken the experience to a new low. The food is ok (but not amazing like it used to be). For a large good, they "do not serve". We had to serve ourselves and were penalized by our group size and charged 20% for no service. We sat and sat, looking at dirty plates--finally asking for the table to be cleared. When we talked to the manager, he weakly said the policy of no service he inherited. He didn't want to hear any complaints and told us "Well, you can leave now!" I told him we would never return and with a patronizing shrug, said "ok'( like he was glad). There were only a few tables filled and for good reason. The word is out that this is no longer the quality restaurant of former days. Find somewhere else to spend your dining dollars.

I am in love with this place... The food is great! The staff are always outstanding, I have gone here on dates, with friends and for celebrations! The free valet service takes the pain out of parking in this residential area! When ever friends and/or family come to visit I try to take them here as I feel this is one of our best places in Denver to go for a great dinner and for decent prices considering all the food and service you get!

I am relatively new to Denver and a friend in town suggested we go there this past week for dinner. I went with a group of 6 and we had a great time. The staff were very good at their job and amusing to boot. The best thing I liked was when one of us suggested we order an entree that the server did not feel was a good value, he let us know. The wine list had a very good variety of options at reasonable prices. Most of the list was under the 50 dollar mark. Overall the food was very good and the portions were huge. We enjoyed ourselves and I feel I have found a restaurant worth returning to in Denver which isn't as easy as I thought it would be.

I have been going to Carmines for years!! However in recent years in the service hasnt just declined it has fallen off a cliff! They only have 2 bar tenders the woman bartender (megan) has the worst attitude on the planet. Even when asking for something simple like WATER she serves it with an attitude!!!! Finally our last visit a few days ago my husband and I finally turned to eachother and said never again! Last time we went in we even complained to management and he acted as if I was talking to someone behind him. If you want good food and good service find another resturant. We will not be going back and wasting our money on service from a woman who clearly needs a new job.

I have been going to Carimine's for over 10 years and the new ownership showed their BAD MANAGEMENT last night.
We waited for 10 min for the waitress (AMY) to come fill our water glasses and not take our drink order in a 50% capacity setting. I went to the bar myself and ordered our drinks. She then rushed to the table asked my girlfriend my name and yelled across the restaurant "Michael I am trying to serve you over here" I assume to try and embarass me? We then requested the Chicken montana with the chicken on the side (girlfriend is a veggie) and the waitress said "the chef won't prepare it that way" without even asking him at a customer's request. Guess customer is not always right anymore, at least not at Carmine's. We were very uncomfortable the enitire rest of the meal as AMY passed our table and she only returned to drop off the bill.
I asked on the way out how to complain at a later time, and it happened to be the OWNER (BRAD) I was talking to. We walked outside and I gave him the overview and how uncomfortable we were dining in the restaurant and what terrible service we received. He then "thanked me for letting him know, as most customers would not". I asked how he will handle it since he offered NO RESOLUTION and he stated he would talk to the Chef and waitress. Great job BRAD! The Chef was not at fault and never even asked. Do you really think that is how to manage and get a customer to come back to your establishment after an awful experience? VERY BAD SERVICE AND MANAGEMENT FROM THE OWNER! Top down as they say and that is clear at Carmine's under new ownership. Hopefully Brad has to sell it soon!

Banned! I have been living in the wash park area for 12+ years and wanted to take my wife out for a nice dinner there last night. The poor experience started as I was driving over and called to make sure there was availability. "Sure" they said, "there is currently no wait at all to be seated". Seemed to be the case as I walked in, only 10 minutes later and saw empty seats all over, however as we checked in, the hostess informed me there was about a 1/2 hour wait to be seated. Wow!!!- empty seats everywhere and 1/2 hour to be seated? Oh well, I love (or used to) love the food. We generally had a decent meal, but I tell you the food and service have gone way downhill over the last few years (we were hesitant to come back after the last time we were there.) The Chicken Montana, which used to be my "all time favorite" dinner in the entire city, now costs $36.95 and ONLY contains 1 chicken breast-yes thats correct, 1 chicken breast for this price- a couple spears of cut asparagus, a few sundreed tomatoes, and some butter and cream. Also, the sauce has lost a lot of its flair over the years, and seems watered down. Okay, so for $36.96 my wife and I can have pasta for a week, but not even enough chicken to make a meal of it!!! Top if off with the $17.00 salad, enough for a small army, but becomes so saturated the next day its inedible, average at best service (had about a 10 mintue wait before our server came over, again not that busy), and the whole experience has lost a lot of luster. Seems to me others have figured this out as well, thus the lack of the usual major crowds and wait list, and the lower quality and skimpy ingredients in the food- no wonder they have raised thier prices- have they changed ownership??

I live in the area and have walked by Carmine's many times each time being drawn in by the smell of garlic. I have wanted to go for awhile and talked a friend of mine into joining me. We made reservations because every time I passed it was full. Reservations were at 5 p.m. so we could attend a 7 p.m. movie. We arrived three minutes before 5 p.m. and were told we could wait outside or go to the "dive" bar next door. I was shocked - in my experience if you were early for a reservation the bar was always open before seating began. However, this was not the case. Ten minutes or so later we arrived and were given the choice to sit inside or out. We chose outside on the patio. The only table for two was directly under the heater and my friend and I both paused contemplating if we wanted to roast all night. The hostess (yes, the lovely one who told us to wait outside) suggested we wouldn't be very hot if we took off our coats?!?!?! She was on a roll! The service after her was great. My water glass was never empty and the staff was very deliberate to not overload our table with food. The food was amazing and served with a smile. I had almost forgotten about the catty hostess until we left and she sang us the chorus from "So Long, Farewell" directly out of the sound of music...not sure if she was just really happy to hear us go or inspired by the German accent of my friend. Either way, no have a great night, here's a mint to wash down your $150 meal, or let me get the door. The food was amazing, the wine was delicious, and the wait staff was incredible - however, I'm not dying to go back because I can be mocked and poorly treated at a cheaper price per plate.

Let me start this off with a simple fact - at Carmine's, you are paying for amazing service and atmosphere. When it comes to the food - yes, it's tasty. Yes, you could feed several people with a single entree. Yes, the entrees start around $20 and hop up to $40 for anything seafood or veal. However, Carmine's is not the best Italian I've ever had (check out Patsy's in the Highlands if you're looking for inexpensive, great tasting Italian.) What really seals the deal is flawless service and the hoppin' atmosphere. You can go on the cheap (we've done it) and it will cost you about $60 for 2 people including a bottle of inexpensive wine and an entree to split. I also love going with a group. Last week we had 9 people with 6 bottles of wine, salads and 4 entrees - including a hefty tip for our fantastic server - it was $37.50/pp. Good times.

Cons: Slammed on weekends, Tables in the bar area aren't worth it.

Family style servings and family style prices on EACH item you order, and all prices are not posted on the menu board. Don't get surprised like we did. Our dinner for two - family style veal (enought for 2 with good appetites, 2 salads, 2 glasses of wine, and a plate of pasta (plain spaghetti) came to $93. No kidding.

I have dined at restaurants across the county and many in Denver since moving here and I cannot fathom what merits all of the hype about this restaurant. On a positive note - the service is good with patient servers willing to explain the menu choices and make suggestions to tables full of guests that cannot agree on what they want to order and the atmosphere is quaint. Too bad the food tastes like mediocre home-cooking at best and the huge portions leave you wondering if you intended to feed a small army - I would pick small portions and great tasting entrees any day!

I've eaten at Carmines several times and it have never disappointed. Too often I feel like people only write reviews when something negative happens or when they aren't satisfied. I would recommend to anyone who enjoys good Italian food served family style. Each time is as wonderful as the first.

Ok, I've never written a review either...and I was surprised to read the review below as I have been a patron of this restaurant (for many years) with its consistently fabulous, great tasting food and its attentive staff. (for pete's sake, how can you even write about an experience on New Year's Eve-or Valentine's Day for that matter-at ANY restaurant since both are considered "amateur nights" in my book...give me a break!) In any case, I have never been disappointed in the food, the service and the management especially since Carmine's was bought by new owners within the last two years or so. I'm surprised that a restaurant that has been around and frequented by so many for years can continue to provide consistent, house made sauces, garlic rolls, desserts and much more night after night...amazing! And how many restaurants to you know in town that can accommodate such large parties in their main dining areas? As for Carmine's manager: if it's the gentleman who has been there for the last two years, I have only seen him in action, either assisting guests with wine, bussing tables, serving food, etc--not your typical "glorified host/hostess" manager-type you see in most eating establishments-stiff, pretentious, never lifting a finger, on a power trip with their waitstaff, etc. We all have our own "off nights" as individuals--give Carmine's the benefit of the doubt when it comes to being a bit "off"--It's nice to be assured and know that as a guest, I will always be taken of and can always expect great tasting food, not to mention a wonderful experience upon each and every visit. Where's the "old" Carmine's you ask?...in the past, my friend...I'll take the "new and improved" Carmine's any day!!

In any case, I have never been disappointed in the food, the service and the management especially since Carmine's was bought by new owners within the last two years or so. Where's the "old" Carmine's you ask?...in the past, my friend...I'll take the "new and improved" Carmine's any day!!

.

Okay, as a long-time Carmine dining patron, I am compelled to write a review I never thought I would.... What's happened? In the last 8 months, I have seen the food quality and service suffer. Case in point, New Year's, dining early with 3 friends -- we waited 15 minutes for a server to acknowledge us and then pushed us to make a decision right then and there on what we wanted to eat (2 of my friends, new to Carmine's had no idea what the dishes were as they are only listed on the wall -- no descriptions). However, the worst part of the evening -- besides the food -- was the manager standing right beside us that wouldn't help his server clear our plates (no lie, 15 minutes). The only time we saw any attentive behavior was when we stood up to leave, before we even have our coats pulled off the backs of our chairs -- he is grabbing our table to pull it over to prepare for other diners... so sad, really. PLEASE bring the old Carmine's back -- I know it's still in there...

This place has got some of the best Italian dishes that Denver has to offer. Forget the comfortable atmosphere and great wine list. Forget the fabulous and oh-so-garlickey bread and ceasar salad. I am talking about perfection in the form of ravioli a la vodka and veal marsala.

The beauty of this place, really, is that it's family style. That means huge dishes of great food to be shared with a large group of your closest friends. Just go. And bring a date. Or five.

Pros: The food. ALL of it.

Cons: NOT a good date place because of the family style.

After years of substandard food and service Carmines is on the rebound. The food is well beyond what was once offered and fresher as well the kitchen has gotten a kick in the shorts and you can tell.

I used to be in love with Carmine's. The meal I had there to celebrate my college graduation several years ago was so incredibile it has never been topped. Now Carmine's is gross. I recently took a friend for dinner after bragging about what a heavenly experience it would be. I failed to take as a big clue the lack of the once perpetual line out the door. Our order explained it all. The sauce was nothing more than the drippngs strained from a can of stewed tomatoes and that's what it tasted like as well. There was absolutely no body to it at all, not even a sliver of tomato clinging to a single noodle. The kitchen basically filled the bottom of a serving dish with red water and topped it with a nest of mushy, plain spaghetti noodles. I actually thought they forgot to sauce it before handing it off to be served. They couldn't have just twisted the lid off a jar of Ragu? With that came some rosemary chicken. That was not even close to good enough to buffer the shock of the gigantic bill for such an incredibly pathetic meal. We had a massive take out box of plain noodles which I made a point of creating a meal around the next night just to numb the feeling that I'd been terribly ripped off. I also found it difficult to deal with our Catch-22 waiter. The few times we managed to force him over to our table, he was in our faces like an obnoxious, out of control hummingbird. It was like punishment for begging for a drink refill. Overall Carmine's has fallen down... hard. What happened?

Cons: spoken menu by ADD, absentee waiter

Hadn't been in a couple years. Badly overpriced, arrogant and inattentive staff, tables right on top of each other, food was mediocre at best, and the whole "no menu" affectation is just dumb. SUCH a disappointment. Live and learn I guess.

We just moved back into town and of course had to head out to our favorite italian joint from when we lived here in 2002. After living in NYC and San Francisco, we were still amazed by the quality of food and service at Carmines. We started out the with Caeser Salad which might be the best we've ever tasted. Because of the large dinner portions we decided to skip the appetizer and go straight for the entrees. We had the Veal Pazzo and the Ravioli with Vodka Sauce. Both were out of this world. The veal was tender and the eggpplant was cooked perfectly with melted mozzarella on top. The ravioli were aldente and the vodka sauce was perrfect--not too thick or rich to overpower the dish. Everyone in our party was thrilled. I must admit however that the portions are not as large as they used to be. We used to have TONS of leftovers but didn't this time..maybe were just really hungry :) Lastly, you havn't lived until you get dessert. I don't have a sweet tooth but let me tell ya---watch out at this place. The berry tartaletta is arguably the best dessert we've ever had. We were literally fighting over the last bite. We didn't talk on the way home either. My wife was too full and i was mad about losing out on the last of the sweets. You can also try the chocolate cake but beware...they bring out almost the whole cake. Overall this place is fantastic. If you like Maggianos or Bucca please do everyone else a favor and don't take up the valuable seats at Carmines. Leave them for the rest of us that truly know what good food is. Also beware if you are with old people hard of hearing. It can be very loud and the tables are quite large making it difficult to hold a conversation. I'll definitely eat here again after i lose the weight i just put on. 1 salad, 2 entrees, 2 desserts, 1 bottle of wine, and 4 coffees ran us about $185 with tip. This was a bargain considering the quality of food and the excellent and professional service.

We usually go to Carmine's for a special occasion and this weekend took my husband's family there for my mother-in-law's birthday. We had been raving about this place to my inlaws for weeks at this point. Well, we left apologizing profusely to our guests for poor service and being treated rudely. I can't even begin to explain how rude our waitress was.

Sadly, this place has been going downhill for a year now. It's just not the same experience as it once was. We will be finding another restaurant for our special occassions. Or eating at home, for that matter.

Snooty staff?? No way. The food, service and atmosphere are all amazing. I saw alot of complaints about the noise. The noise is what makes it lively! Also, don't bring young kids, do make reservations, and do bring a big group (lots of food).

Carmine's is two blocks from my house and continues to be one of my favorite restaurants in Denver. It's small, personal, and the food is great. It you like variety in your appetizer, try the Antipasti Misti; meats, cheeses, and other Italian treats. The chicken parm is great; I haven't found a better chicken parm within driving distance of Denver. Lots of good wine to sample...the pricing is moderate to expensive. This place gets crowded and reservations are a must. If you don't have a reseravation, eat at the bar. I wouldn't bring the kids here...it's just not that kind of scene.

Previously, we had loved this place....but last saturday night was a huge disappointment! We ordered a chicken dish, where there were to be 4 breasts, enough for 4 adults. What we got was one breast pounded paper thin and cut into quarters. For almost 30 bucks, it was a bummer. Also, the salad was drowned in balsamic vinegar, plus I had to ask for bread twice. The place was packed with Holiday people, which was fun but unbelievably noisy. There was one large table, where they were having a great albeit, drunken celebration. The place reverberated with yelling and holloring to the point of headache city. Had the food and service been good, the noise probably wouldn't have been such an issue. The experience wasn't horrible, but not at all enjoyable either. It will be a long time before we go back, Buca di Bepo and Maggiano's will be the choices now. Too bad.

I went on a Sunday night around 6pm and the restaurant wasn't crowded yet, although it had filled up by the time I left. They're not kidding when they say portions serve two to four people. The sausage and peppers appetizer was delicious, the pear salad was fantastic, and the clam linguini was great. The wait staff was friendly. Our water glasses were never empty. Our waiter also did an excellent job in explaining the menu and making food and wine recommendations. However, it was a bit on the pricey side for just two people splitting appetizer, salad, and pasta--with three or four people splitting the price would have been perfect.

This is a family owned restaurant with amazing italian food. Yes, because the food is sooooo good you need to plan ahead. There will be long lines. There will be no space at the bar. Big groups of people will have to wait to get in. BUT, the food is ABSOLUTELY the best. Been to Italy 3-4 times and this is IT.

I really like Carmine's, I've been there 3 times. I prefer it over Buca (been there 5-6 times) and Maggiano's (been there 2 times) for family style Italian food. The prices on food and wine were reasonable, and the food was good. It is crowded, so I would recommend reservations.

PLEASE READ ENTIRE REVIEW: THIS IS A FOLLOW UP T MY PRIOR REVIEW.
I have been going to Carmines for over 14 years, i do not live close and my wife and I would drive over 40 minutes to enjoy what was the best Italian in town at least once a week.. New ownership has taken over, and here are my opinions.

1- At first we thought it was growing pains going through a change, food portion have decreased, prices have increased.

2- Quality is way down, I guess when oyu skrimp on ingredients, the flavor reflects the attitude of the ownership.

3- The bar used to be the best place to eat, the bartenders knew everyone and took care of the people who took care of Carmines. Now all they want is your money and to get you out of your chair as quick as possible. We used to show up at about 8ish an dstay long after they closed just having fun. It was more than just going to eat.

4- The new General Manager is basically an accountant, more interested in the bottom line that quality. It used to be over a 2 hour wait if you did not have reservations, not any longer. They should of figured out by now that swerving lousy food to increase your bottom line ultimately decrease your clientele until you have none.

5. Now if you read my prior review you will really get a feel for how bad Carmines has become.. I used to say that Carmines on Broadway & 44th in Ny had a great cousin out here. Not any longer

I now have to look for another place to dip my spoon.

Having grown up in NY and forced fed Italian since birth, I feel I know good from bad. Many people here in Denver think they know what good food is THEY DON"T. Carmines is the best Italian food in Denver. CASE CLOSED. We try restaurants others recomend all the time and are always diapointed. Eating at the bar is best , great bartenders and always friendly people on all sides. Eating at Carmines is more than a meal it is an experience.
THe valet parker greets all by first name, and everybody makes you feel like you are part of the family. This is how Italian is supposed to be, cozy, noisy and above all superb meals. Everything is home made and you can ask for items that are not even on the menu and never be turned down. Carbonara to die for.

For me, a trip to Denver isn't complete unless I've eaten at Carmine's.

The food is excellent. It has a unique and enjoyable neighborhood ambience. Because it's typically busy, however, I recommend making reservations. Though even if you have to wait, there is a bar next door with an equally comfortable neighborhood-like atmosphere where you can have a drink and prepare yourself for the excellent food to come.

While I love the atmosphere at Carmine's, I would not recommend it for occasions when conversation is necessary. The dining rooms have a tendency to be a little noisy. Though depending on the company, the noise may work to your advantage.

Despite the noise, I feel very comfortable recommending Carmine's to anyone who is looking for great food in a unique atmosphere. I've brought family, friends and dates to Carmine's and they all agree.

OK, I've known for a long time that this place is too "in demand." I put a group together for dinner and called about a reservation. They couldn't give us one, but said if we showed up at 7, we would have a table for 6 no later than around 7:45. Sounded fine to us. But, when we arrived, they told us no chance until 9 or 9:30. Ridiculous. My advice, if you don't have a reservation, forget it. I'm glad they are so successful, but I'm not going to even bother trying to go back to this place. It's too COMPETITIVE.

The food, service, and atmosphere at Carmine's has been outstanding every time I've been there. Well worth the wait (reservations recommended) and the prices are reasonable. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but don't let some of these whiney reviews stop you from giving this restaurant a try. Everyone I know loves this place.

Average food with large portions--service was extremely slow at all junctures--waiter more interested in talking with girls at the bar and on his cell phone. There was no menu --just a chalkboard with names and no dish descriptions. When we tried to order the waiter tried to get us to order his favorite dish--we declined. We asked if a dish could be prepared without pinenuts (allergy)--No. We resorted to standbys that we knew we could order (spaghetti, chicken parmagiana). It took 30 minutes after finished to get his attention for the bill--finally precipitated by waving a credit card in the air until he looked up from his cellphone. It was not just the waiter (bad); the food was average; so noisy it was hard to hear the person across the table---won't go back and would not recommend--There are other places with better food, service, value, and environment in Denver.

I came across Carmine's on Penn while taking a walk through the neighborhood. What doesn't look like much on the outside is overcompensated once you step inside. From friendly and professional waitstaff with excellent recommendations to the amazing salads, pastas, meat dishes and desserts, this place is amazing. Since it is famil style, I've found it best to go with a group of 4 or more; it allows to to get a little taste of everything. The portions are rather large, and you will always have something to take home. There is also an extensive wine list, or try an Italian beer. For any special occasion, Carmine's on Penn is the place to go.

My boyfriend took me to Carmine's on a weekday night around 5:30. Surprisingly, we didn't need reservations to get in, although the place was definitely hoppin' and as the night wore on, it became more crowded.

In fact, much more crowded. The food is GREAT- it's done family style, so you share with whomever you are with. We had a salad to start and the cheese ravioli as the entree...and there is so much to choose from. However, the noise in the restaurant made it impossible for me to hear my boyfriend (or even the waiter!) and I felt like we were sitting right ontop of everyone else.

It's a bummer, because Carmine's has everything else going for it- the wait staff was great, the food was excellent, and the darker lighting provides an air of romance...if only it didn't have the hustle and bustle of a busy NYC cafe.

Pros: great food, good service

Cons: busy, crowded, noisy!!

Carmine's is an old-fashioned neighborhood restaurant. The menu, which changes daily, is written on a chalkboard on the wall. Portions are huge, and are meant to be shared. They also have the best Tiramisu in Denver. One caution - make reservations, especially on a weekend, or you'll end up sitting at the bar.

Went on a Wed. evening after 8:30 w/out a res. and didn't wait at all. (I wouldn't blame a busy restaurant for having to wait 45 min. when you didn't have a reservation just because you had children. Not really a good place to take children anyway). The food was basic, Southern Italian, not exotic but done perfectly. The staff was extremely friendly and our waiter was very helpful with the menu since it was new to us and a bit different with family style portions and names for the items that don't indicate what's in them. The wine list was interesting, and the food delicious. Portions are huge for two and though the ambiance is great, it was really hard to hear over all the noise. Still, a great neighborhood, non-corporate place with great food and ambience. We will go back, and will bring more friends next time.

I have never written a complaint about a restaurant. But I have also never been treated this bad before. 150 words are not enough to explain what happened to me and my family. I was turned down and embarassed after being told to wait, for 45 minute, with 2 young children in the cold. I will never go to this place again, and would advise anyone to do the same.

Delicious food. Chicken Parm is to DIE for, they really pound out that chicken. I've never had a bad experience at this restaurant...except for the time I didn't make reservations. The trick is to DEFINITELY make reservations ahead of time.
