We have a very loving and hyper Shiba Inu and it was so great the first time we went there the girls already acknowledged: "Aww, you have a "cat style" dog"! It was the first time we took him some "dogs" place that they knew his breed and his temperament!

Dogs, just like children, will play and eventually hurt themselves! Cisco got back home with a little scab on his nose, nothing serious and knowing how hyper and nosy he is that was just a little accident caused by him probably!

The best thing we can describe is: his waggy tail every time we are parking the car at Groomingdales. Cisco really has a great time there! He knows how to show when he is upset or when he doesn't like someone or someplace (shiba inus can be very sensitive), so for that reason we will keep taking him to his "Dog Spa"!!

First clue, don't leave your dog at a kennel when you drive up to a dumpster in front and stuff piled up around it.

Second, I was at my friends house when she got Melissa' on the phone who basically blew her off with, sorry, you signed a release. No sorry about your dogs, or what your kids are going through. I think my friend should sue her and her business BEFORE the statute of limitations runs out. Here is part of the letter Melissa recieved - Melissa did not even refund the boarding fee - what a horrible person she must be, I pray for all you who continue to entrust her with your pets.

Here is part of the letter "The saga gets worse. At the follow up appointment ten days later to remove the stitches Dr. McNabb when quizzed said only a puncture would have caused this deterioration. We were advised to contact you and see what your insurance would do as she was not only in your care but was groomed that Monday. I didn??t think much of it when I was told Txxxx was a ??demon dog? when groomed, as she has been groomed at the same facility for over seven years without complaint and actually enjoys going. Now we suspect that perhaps she was injured then or in pain from her eye. Of course, only someone at Groomingdale??s would know what truly happened.

What is worse is that last week Txxxx had more discharge from her eye and on an emergency return trip to Dr. McNabb it was determined that Txxxx ??s body was rejecting the prosthesis eye that was implanted. She again underwent surgery to remove the prosthesis eye and is still recovering.

From my perspective this was my worst nightmare. Pick my dog up after a wonderful vacation and 2 days later having her eye removed. Something happened while Txxxx was in the care of Groomingdales. If there had been a greater sense of urgency when I picked her up I would have taken her to the veterinarian immediately. This may or may not have made a difference. This has been a traumatic experience for our entire family, not to mention the costs we??ve incurred.

I??ve enclosed copies of some of her bills we??ve incurred so far and think you really need to know about this and examine how Txxxx was handled while in your care. You had our phone numbers, an emergency number of a friend who could make decisions on our behalf in case we weren??t reachable and our veterinarian??s information. In hindsight it is odd that you would know that she incurred an injury and simply waited for us to arrive to pick her up. It looked innocent to us too at first but had we known it was a puncture instead of a scratch would have immediately sought out medical attention.

Please refer this to your insurer for review and payment, as we prefer not to pursue litigation. We??ve incurred $3,227 in medical expenses, not including the $207 we incurred boarding her. We don??t believe the injury was purposely inflicted but rather that there was a lapse in her care or handling. I??m sure you will agree that there is liability and you can only imagine the heartbreak of seeing Txxxx suffering, caring for her and the upset of her children seeing the only dog we??ve ever owned enduring pain and being disfigured."

The good news is the family can look at their beloved T without crying - that took about a year to get through. She is a little sweetie and has some trouble jumping down and sometimes walks into the wall or door due to her impaired vision but that's all. If this woman has an insured business why wouldn't she refer this to her insurance carrier - someone should check if she is a legitimate licensed insured business.

Pros: none

Cons: Melissa Lies on post, may be uninsured, prop dirty

My family has been using Groomingdales at least twice a year for 15 years. We board our now 17 year old lab mix and have been very pleased with the love and caring that Melissa and her associates provide. They are very concerned about my pet and her special needs. We have been very pleased and have never had an incident. As a matter of fact, our pet is not one who enjoys baths and now that she is older, is prone to surprise (due to poor hearing) and possible nipping the groomer. So far, no complaints about her behavior and coincidentally, we are bringing her in for ten days tomorrow.

I have used Groomingdales for years. I affectionately call the owner the "Kennel N..i". I say that because she is passionate about her business and her clients, (the animals) just like the Soup N..i on Sienfeld. . There is no one I would trust more than Melissa to care for my cocker, Pixie. This is a 100% unsolicited endorsement of Groomingdales. In fact, I came across this site when I was looking up the number for a recommendation from her of breeders for a new pet.
Thanks,

David Miller

My name is Melissa & I've owned Groomingdales for 21 years . I was not aware of the the bad review we recieved until now Jan 2009 when a long time customer called me very upset someone had written such a poor review on us .
We are always honest with customers on their pets behavior at the kennel because if the pet has problems it may not be in the pets best interest to have a service provided that they are not happy about to ensure the safety of the pet & the employees caring for them .
We groom pets the day they're scheduled to go home & put them in an enclosed cage so they stay clean until the owners arrive .
When we got their pet out to finish her groom we noticed her eye was slightly tearing but she did not seem to be experiencing any real discomfort & we did inform them of that fact when they picked her up & that we did not witness or know a reason for it , it just started a few hours ago & recommended they watch it & seek treatment if it got worse .
It is very common for flat faced pets to easily get eye injurys since they dont have much of a snout bumper to protect them .
Pets also react on pure emotions & not rational thinking & that behavior causes them to do things that could be harmful & cause self inflicted injurys that may not be preventable & its no ones fault but the pet .
Im sorry the customer lied that I never said I was sorry .
I was very sympathetic to the trauma the pet & their family experienced due to the extreme treatments , procedures , & expense that occured .
If we had physically inflicted the injury I would have honored the expenses but you cant hold someone responsible when the pet causes the injury to themselves ..
I have hundreds of long time customers who would be happy to provide nothing but positive experiences with us over many years of caring for their pets upon request .

I used Groomingdales twice for weekly vacation boarding. The first my dog was fine, not traumatized so I decided to use them again. We went on a seven day cruise, stating our return was Sunday, left full contact information, including a local Tampa friend to make decisions in our absence and our vet is right down the street from their facility. Picked up the dog Monday after asking them to do a groom as well as wash. The woman told my husband my docile 9 lb lap dog was a "devil dog" to groom (she has been groomed at one facility for 8 years without incident, she loves it) and that she had a small scratch on her eye to watch. and to take her to the vet if she got worse. Her eye started having A discharge the next day, took her to the vet, then a trip to the emergency ophthalmological Vet on Busch. $3000 and two operations later, our dog has one eye, our children and us are traumatized and we're told sorry you signed a release.. The vet said our dog's eye was punctured and our suspicion is that it occured during grooming, hence the "devil dog" at the comment as she was in pain. We sent a registered letter to Groomingdales informing them of the injury and asking why they stated she had a scratch instead of seeking immediate medical attention as we have prepaid veterinary services or calling us or our contact. I got a voicemail that I signed a release and if I wanted a copy it would be faxed to me. No comment even I'm sorry that happened, just total callousness and disregard. DO NOT trust your beloved pet to Groomingdales.

There is NO chance this injury did not happen during boarding and I do admit we don't know 100% for sure if it happened during grooming. I do KNOW that they did not seek medical attention or escalate attention at all. Don't go through the sadness and anguish our family has experienced as there are facilities with much higher standards. If your vet offers boarding do that first!

AVOID GROOMINGDALE'S AT ALL COSTS

Message from Groomingdales Bed & Biscuit

Our boarding kennel offers dog, cat and other pet boarding services. Groomingdales Bed and Biscuit offers boarding prices starting at $20 per day for dogs and $9 per day for cats. We are a veterinarian approved and recommended kennel, and our accommodations include spacious indoor runs with an attached outside run for 24 hour freedom and access to fresh air. Outside runs have shade and weather protections and dogs are given 3 play and potty times each day in a separate, large fenced yard so they can run free with no leash. With Groomingdales, your pet has the freedom to run rather than being cooped up all day. We also have cat kennels with all the same amenities as the dogs except for access to the outside runs. We offer padded kitty igloos so your cat can hide in comfort whenever they want. We also board birds, reptiles and other pets. Come take a tour and see why we are the best grooming facility in the Tampa and Hillsborough areas. We are licensed and insured for your safety and have served all residential customers since 1987. We have been providing Tampa pets with only the best of care for over 20 years.
