I just took my dog to get a dental cleaning from Dr. Simmons. Our dog Zoe is 9 years old was getting horrible breath. I never had her teeth cleaned new I had to do something. Dr. Simmons gave me an idea on what to expect from a dog her age

This veterinarian practice is the most caring, compassionate and knowledgeable vet practice I have EVER encountered. My dog was in excruciating pain with a bulging disk in his back. We took him to an emergency vet and another vet practice

Just wanted to say thank you to you, the Oakwood staff, and Docs. Its extremely apparent that you all genuinely care for the animals treated at your hospital and I would not want Jax cared for at any other place :). In general, thank you

than I would have thought possible. Without Dr. Mike, Sunshine would not have graced my life for over 16 years. Acupuncture treatments easily added another happy 2 years to her life. Dr. Mike is a thorough, caring, compassionate, veterinarian who takes the overall health and well being of our companion animals into consideration. He doesn't just hand you a bunch of pharmaceuticals in hopes that they'll work. I would say he is balanced, utilizing the best parts of both western and eastern medicine to add quality years to the time we're allowed as pet owners. That's all any of us want. More happy years with our pets. If it is possible, Dr. Mike will find those extra years, and act as your support system through all of them.

This veterinarian practice is the most caring, compassionate and knowledgeable vet practice I have EVER encountered. My dog was in excruciating pain with a bulging disk in his back. We took him to an emergency vet and another vet practice in Tallahassee for relief. They gave him pain medication to mask the pain, but once that wore off he was crying, shaking, panting uncontrollably. I took him to Oakwood and they gave him laser treatments as well as medication which alleviated the pain he was enduring. He had a relapse on a Sunday and Dr. Rudegeair drove 1 hour to meet us at his office, while he himself was recovering from pneumonia, to alleviate the pain my dog was experiencing. We continued with 6 laser treatments, an acupuncture treatment and alot of TLC and after 9 days our dog is back to like nothing every happened. We have to do what we can to keep him down and rest while he continues to heal. Donna is so wonderful and calming when we were so stressed out trying to help our dog. The entire staff is incredibly compassionate and truly cares about the welfare of your pet. I have NEVER recommended a vet practice before and we have lived in many different places - but if anyone comes to Tallahassee and wants to take their pet to a wonderful and trusting practice - I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Oakwood Animal Hospital and Wellness

Started to notice our cat was having issues and took her into the vets office. She wasn't eating, lost weight, and explained to "Mike" her symptoms, trouble eating, not really using litter box, etc... They did the normal checking or things and essentially gave her a clean bill of health, and wanted to do a blood test to see if anything else was going on. Of course we didn't know anything so we figured be safe, this of course costed us an extra $85. A couple days later we brought her back in, same thing...typical general check and finally he checks for a urinary track infection, and sure enough this is what it is. Why couldn't he check for this on our initial visit a few days before. So he prescribes an antibiotic in pill form, 2 weeks worth for $50, they didn't tell us they had a shot they can give that lasts 2 weeks for $35. Also the cat wasn't eating and they didn't inform us the pill can cause nausea. When we gave the pill to our cat she threw up everything we were able to get in her. It's not fun paying over $400 in less than 4 days. I feel they care more about profits and not your pets. Also during the last visit when we were willing to wait for the urin test "Mike" said it may be awhile or later on in the day till the cat had to urin so we decided on leaving the cat there and pick her up towards end of the day. When we were ready to check out that tacked on another $29 for kennel fees. I wouldn't even rate this company 1 star but have no choice.

I started using Oakwood because it's close to where I live; when my parents divorced, I took over the care of our cat. I will never return. I don't have the patience to explain everything, but:

--After hundreds of dollars, a lab workup, and two visits with "Dr" Mike, I still have no satisfactory answer (and no attempt was even made to give a satisfactory answer) as to why my cat suddenly developed a very deep cough. At first he gave me catlax (for $8, not telling me I could buy the same stuff anywhere for $3), which did nothing and which I had to force down her throat. The second visit--after all the lab work was done--I was told there was nothing wrong with her but that she did have a urinary tract infection, of which I was already patently aware. As I was leaving, I was specifically asked whether she's good at taking pills. Even though I specifically answered "No," they still gave me the antibiotic in pill form. I had to go to my pharmacist for a dropper, dissolve the pills, and give them in 'liquid form'--which they HAD, and didn't give me at first.

When I called at one point to see if my cat was ready, I was told she was. I arrived and waited TWO HOURS for her to be released to me.

I had to have her boarded while I went to Tampa for the bar exam, and the day before the test I received a call from the receptionist ASKING HOW MY CAT WAS. I said, "Well, gee, you'd probably know better than I, since she's being boarded with you right now."

Ugh. I don't feel like going on. As competetive as veterinary medicine is, I'm astounded by how poorly-run this place is.
