It's really funny. As I read the reviews that are not 5 stars I am absolutely certain that they have no clue what a great Chicago deep-dish pizza is supposed to be. I have lived in Chicago-land my whole 58 years and I have tried all of

Thick and huge slices at very low rates. I am very happy after finding their shop. They are very popular around that location just because of the wonderful taste of their pizza.
4Incredible pan pizza. Tomato sauce is thick and well-seasoned - I would believe it if they said an old Italian lady is in the back making her secret recipe.
The crust was thick but springy. Tough to do and seldom done successfully but they carried it off.
I've been going for years and have always liked it. New owners bought the restaurant about a year ago. I've held off on my review waiting to see what they'd do. So far so good. Thankfully they didn't change the pizza recipes. They did solve the lack of parking and expanded/upgraded the bathrooms (my two biggest long standing complaints with the old owner).
I'll be back for more....

Pros: Great food, unique surroundings
Been ordering and eating here for decades, something is different, the pizza does not taste the same. Used to LOVE this pizza, now its just Ok. Better pizza at other places. Please go back to your old recipe, or your old cook, or whatever it is that you changed. Sorry I won't spend that kind of money to get food that is not as good as it used to be.

Cons: What are the drawbacks?
My roommate and I had heard great things from friends about the restaurant so we decided to check it out awhile back. The atmoshphere is eclectic and interesting. The food was bland and less than interesting. The prices were high for just OK food. We were both disappointed with the food and the service.
Watch out! Refills are not free. We assumed they were only to be shocked when we recieved the bill. There are much better restaurants in Rogers Park with better prices... and free refills.
I have never been back. I don't to either.

In my opinion, the place looks and feels fantastic. In terms of food, pizza is one of the best in town.

Pros: The place looks and feels fantastic.
Cons: None.
The last few times we were in the restaurant things seemed different so we asked the waitress and she told us the old owner Jerry had died and his widow sold the place to new owners.
The new owners must have changed the recipe because we have been ordering pizza from gullivers for the past 25 years... I grew up in Rogers Park.... and the pizza was never like this.
We ordered thick crust pizza from Gullivers last night (Saturday, October 11, 2008). When we opened the box their was a runny liguid all over the top....usually they use a thick chopped tomato sauce... this was runny. The sausage slid off the crust...it has never done that in the past.
My wife and I each ate one piece each and knew something was wrong. We called Gullivers and a very rude manager argued with me and said the best he could do was offer us a $10 credit towards our next order. The order total was just under $30... not a very good thing to make an unhappy customer happy.
This morning we both woke up sick as dogs. We have had diareha ALLLLL DAY LONG. We called Gullivers to let them know and the manager got nasty and told me that it wasn't their fault and it could have been anything we ate elsewhere or that we both caught the flu.
THIS IS A WARNING.... GULLIVERS HAS BEEN SOLD AND THE NEW OWNERS HAVE CUT CORNERS, CHANGED RECIPES AND DON'T CARE WHO THEY MAKE SICK.... NOT TO MENTION THE NEW MANGER NEEDS A 2x4 UPSIDE HIS HEAD!!!
Tomorrow morning I call the Chicago Board of Health.

A buddy turned me onto Gulliver's in college when I was still thought Giordano's was pizza sent from heaven. (I moved here from NE for school) If Giordano's was heavenly, Gulliver's is God's personal pizza. Spicy Sausage, green peppers, mushrooms, or pepperoni, ricotta and mushrooms are my favorites. Deep dish of course! While delivery is nice it's best to eat there as Gulliver's has the best atmosphere around. It's filled with antiques and the ceiling is covered in chandeliers. I took my father here while he was visiting and he loved it. The only thing missing is an arcade!

Pros: Great pizza, lots of other good food, atmosphere
Cons: Parking be a drag sometimes but generally not bad.
I first heard about this place from a friend of mine who invited me to grab a beer with him here the day after I got back from overseas. After being away for 2 1/2 weeks on vacation I was dying to have something familiar for once. Walking into this place was like walking through a museum. There's literally relics all over the place dating back probably to the time Chicago was established as a city (of course I'm exagerating =) ). Their menu is loaded with both Italian and American everyday favorites from spaghetti to pizzas, Italian beef sandwiches to beefy cheeseburgers cooked the way you want it. Let's not forget the pizzas too. Needless to say I was satisfied. The only gripe I had was the beer. Not that I didn't like it, but it wasn't cold at all and warm beer in the 80 degree summer day wasn't good at all. It's a really interesting place to eat at. Come for the food, stay for the stuff all around the place.

i have been coming to gullivers for over 30 years. several members of my family including myself and my fathere worked there at different times.gullivers has always been the best place for pizza on the northside plus the rest of the menu is excellent.the staff always take good care of you and are very friendly. several members of my family andi were there for dinner on sunday september 2 2007. we were informed by the manager whom is a good friend of mine that gullivers has been sold to someone. i hope that the new owners will keep it the same type of restaurant.

I must have driven past this place a few dozen times before giving it a try. The sign outside advertises Italian and Mexican dining, but there's no doubt about it: this is an Italian dining experience. The only Mexican food you'll find here is tacos, a burrito, and enchiladas. But that's okay because their obvious focus (Italian) is what they do very well.
From the moment we sat down, this was no ordinary place. The air is so thick with chandeliers, we couldn't see the ceiling. Busts, paintings, mirrors, etc, cover the walls, leaving mere inches of open wall space. It somehow manages to remain classy though, maintaining a homey feeling, not kitschy.
There are more than enough options to choose from. We settled on NOT pizza... but rather, the 1/2-pound burgers. The prices seem high at first glance, but considering the incredible amount of food you get, it's well worth it.
The cons? Our waiter never came back after we were served our food. We needed extra condiments, extra napkins, and refills, but we never saw our waiter again until he returned with the check. The parking lot across the street only holds about 8 cars, and it was full when we arrived. We had to try to find street parking, no easy task in the area.

Cons: Parking
I ordered this pizza tonight and was very excited because of all the other reviews. The toppings were great, but I'm not a fan of this type of crust. If you like Lou Malnati's crust, then you'll love this pizza, if you're a Lou Malnati's crust hater like myself, then don't order this pizza.

The deep dish pizza is one of my Chicago favorites! The sauce is flavorful and the ingredients are fresh. The restaurant itself is filled with antique chandeliers and ornaments. There is definitely a neighborhood feel to the place. Overall I would recommend.

I live in Philadelphia and make Gullivers a mandatory stop when I visit Chicago. An enormous, creative menu, superior service, excellent presentation in an awe inspiring setting of art nouveau antiques. You could eat here daily and never tire of the menu, setting and cozy atmosphere. I only wish I got there more often!

After searching for a good pizza place in the andersonville area, CitySearch led us to Gulliver's and we were finally satisfied. The pizza was perfect! The sauce is chunky with the just the right amount of spice and the crust was thick and tasty. I would highly recommend Gulliver's, but make sure you order your pizza before you are starving. It took them and 1 hour 20 minutes to deliver our pizza on a Monday night.

I have been coming to Gulliver's since 1984. Every time i com back, it conjures up great memories of my high school and college years. The pizza is one of top 5 in chicago, the variety of cuisine is as good as it is expanse. It just brings back memories my first date and group dates with my best friends back in the day. I don't have friendships as endearing as back in the day, but the food at Gulliver's is just as good today as it was then. A timeless classic in my book!

I have been going to this establishment since 1979.
We now travel from Lemont, Il and always order deep dish, sausage and cheese. We order it, " not so browned." The sausage is out of this world. Jerry, the owner and his wife are great. Jerry will sit down at your both and ask " is everything okay" and really mean it. Thank you for 26 years of good food and great memories. Our first date was there on 1/3/79 after seeing " Superman" the movie. We are now married for 25 years. You are a big part of our lives. Thank you. Pizza is Gullivers!

I've been eating at Gulliver's since I was about 3 years old, when we lived only a couple blocks away. My parents live in Skokie and still eat there religiously. They have a great outdoor patio that's perfect for warm summer nights, and even though commercial places like Giordano's and Gino's East are good, Gulliver's is my favorite place to go when I want real Chicago style pizza. I've even made out of towners and other Chicago born friends converts.

By far the best pizza in Chicago. Deep dish, but not as greasy, commercial, or tacky as its more famous competitors. Everyone should try it!

Pros: Good parking, Delicious, Inexpensive
Cons: Away from Downtown
I have been going to Gullivers for years. It has such a unique atmosphere and the best pizza I have ever had. Blows all the bandwagon places out of the water.
