I took a roll of color, medium format film to be developed and scanned at Jim Morris' Lab and Lens.

When I dropped it off, I asked a couple questions about the film scans. I asked what resolution they would be scanned at and whether they would be scanned in a raw format. Jim (I assume it was Jim) refused to answer any of my questions, only telling me that he had "the best film scanner in town." I persisted, and he still refused to answer while being as unfriendly as humanly possible. I made the mistake of leaving my film with them anyway, and they took my phone number to be contacted for pickup. They said it would be ready by the end of the week.

Almost two weeks later I've still heard nothing from them. I finally call them and they tell me my film is ready. Great, thanks for letting me know. So I pick up my film and CD and bring it home. They charged me more to develop the film than they said they would, but it wasn't a big difference.

I open the bag and find my medium format film stuffed into a 35mm tube. Half of the film was hanging out, no lid. I inspect the film under a light and it looks like it spent those two weeks on their floor. It's completely covered in scratches, fingerprints, scuffs, and dents. Butchered. Then I load the scans onto my computer (the CD was scratched too, but it still read). They were all .jpgs, scanned at a whopping 1 megapixel. I paid to have my film scanned at the same resolution my free cell phone takes pictures. They couldn't even be bothered to rotate the pictures, they were all sideways.

Unless you want to pay to be treated terribly and have your film ruined, avoid this lab at all costs. Next time I'll send my film off to a professional lab.

This store is a great source of Motorola camera supplies and information. They also make very professional looking prints out of your pictures. The staff is very knowledgable and always willing to help even if you are lookig for advice about other photography places in town. Great business and staff.

Jim and his wife Barbara are excellent photographers. They have been in the photo lab business for MANY years and are excellent at what they do. The store is located on a main street in a well traveled area of town. Though small, they treat you like one of the family. You are guaranteed to get quality prints from them, and in the hour promised!
