We absolutely love The Shack!! The bartender is great and once he sees us walk in the door, he makes sure there are 2 seats at the bar and has our drinks waiting there for us before we even sit down. Can't get any better service than that! If you haven't been there, it's definitely worth it!!

The Summer Shack is awesome. Vinnie the bartender is great and knows what we want from the minute we sit down... we never have to ask for another beer, he just knows. The beer battered fish and chips is one of the best things on the menu and the French fries are some of the best I've ever had.

"Went here twice - once for dinner with a bunch of friends and second time for lunch with my wife.
Both times food was very good and service was pretty fast. The place is not cheap (but what good seafood is?) but otherwise its great.
Will take Summer Shack over Legal Seafood any day."

I took a date to the bar at the Cambridge summer shack, the bartender Maureen and she was very informative in explaining the oysters which were great and shucked right next to us. We shared a couple of appetizers, fried clams, tomato and mozzarella salad and tuna special. All was great and so was the ICE COLD harpoon. I have been here before with my family but this was my first time to sit at the bar and I enjoyed it.

The raw bar is great and I especially like the condiments for the oysters, not just the usual gloppy ketchup and horseradish. My husband and I split a few appetizers (the daily specials are usually great) and some oysters and find it's plenty of food and the check is not bad at all. The wine list is exceptional for a place like this; the service is not.

Who can deny great seafood? No one. Summer Shack has some of the freshest seafood, directly from the fisherman in Boston. I had a 1-1/4 lb. Lobster for $20 last night, and it was phenomenal. Not only is the food great but so is the service. Awesome sports bar within the restaurant, with a projector and a pool table. They have five locations within greater Boston, so go to one near you!

"I took my wife here for Valentines Day and we were very happy with our meal. It is sort of in an oddl location on the corner right next to a highway and large rotary. It was a little difficult to get to from the opposite side of the street, but once we figured it out it was easy.
We had the special Lobster that is Jasper Whites specialty. The ""pan roasted lobster"". It was great. Very heavy and rich, but so worth it. The cornbread that came with the meal was good and our desert was a toll house pie. That was worth the trip to the restaurant!!! Dont miss that one!"

About as unpretentious as it is possible to get (think paper table cloths) with great oysters, lobster and fish. Try the swordfish skewers for lunch. Mmm, swordfishtastic. And there's free corn bread! It's been 5 nears now, and I never tire of coming

I've only been twice, but each time was a really good time. The first time I went was when I was just starting really explore seafood. I had a swordfish special that was served with marinated tomatoes and squash. Mmmmmm.... The second time was for a graduation party that was in the bar area, so it was private. All you can eat raw bar. Doesn't get any better than that. I like the casual atmosphere. Its a nice change from the typical Legal Seafood/Atlantic Fish Co. scene.

This is a good place. The specials are good, the fruit tart is delicious with ice cream if you like. The lobstah roll is good and you can have it with drawn butter like a Red's. Pretty good.

I love it here. The beer on tap tasted fresh, the atmosphere was very nice and quite a shift in the right direction from the norm. The food I've had has been delicious every time. Waitstaff always did a great job every visit, and it's very convenient to points west with easy parking. Can't find anything wrong with this establishment. This is the next best thing to having a real clambake on the beach!

If it is in the Summer try their fresh watermelon margaritas. The pulverized fruit really makes the drink refreshing. My mom loves their fried oysters. They have a grilled sardine appetizer in the Summer that my dad just goes ga ga over. Something for everyone. Their specials have always been good picks. The cornbread that comes with the meal is also good. My son had a soft-serve ice cream cone at the end of the meal that was larger than his face. His eyes grew really big when it came to the table.

After seeing Summer Shack on the Top 10 list for the best clam chowder in boston, I decided to check it out. Bad idea. Not only was the environment cheap and touristy, but everything on the menu was incredibly overpriced. I guess I should have known that it would be entirely unauthentic, since 2 of their 4 locations are at Logan Airport and Mohegan Sun, but I was still shocked by the tacky nature of the entire restaurant. It felt like they were playing a bad joke on customers while mocking New England tradition. And the chowder sucked.

Last night, we visited the Summer Shack. A friend and I decided to split the lobster roll. It was $20, and it was on an untoasted hotdog bun (which immediately fell apart), and had the meat of about 1 lobster tail. I ordered two drinks at 8.50 a pop that were ridiculously weak. And their hot fudge sundae dessert left much to be desired. Their seafood (fish even) plates are super expensive ($28 or higher). Even their crab legs are $36. The deal is, the lobster roll wasn't even that good. The lobster was poor quality, again, the bun fell apart, and it was pretty much lobster smothered in mayo. Gross.

I am originally from the Cape, and this place is nothing like a "Cape Cod seafood shack." If you are going to go with the "seafood shack" thing, then go with it, but don't charge high-end restaurant prices. Unfortunately, we ended up paying $85 for two people (not including drinks) for boring seafood and a downmarket atmosphere. I understand that the whole vibe of the place is fun and casual, but the food really doesn't deliver. I had the striped bass special, and while the quality of the fish was pretty good, the dish was like something I could have cooked myself at home, but with less seasoning. My husband ordered the ginger/scallion lobster, which at $45 was overcooked and drowning in sticky sauce. For appetizers, the Wellfleet oysters were very good, but the shrimp were definitely not as fresh as they could have been. All in all, we were pretty disappointed with this place, and my overall feeling is that it's all hype and no substance. It felt a bit like a theme park restaurant.

Went here last weekend and the food was so good! Our waiter was super nice and the food came out very fast. There's alot to choose from in the menu. Prices are fair...a tad high but seafood always costs a little mroe. Very casual atmosphere (think summer camping). I'll be back for sure!

I went to the Summer Shack with some friends with intentions of getting some apps and drinks after work. However, we ended up staying for dinner because we were so impressed with our starters! The Shack margarita was perfect and the Rhode Island style calamari was just the right amount of spicy. Our server was very helpful in answering our questions about the menu. She seemed pretty busy (there was a wait after we sat down) but very considerate. The baked stuff lobster was delightful and, while pricey, worth every penny. My only complaint was the noise level-every sound seemed to travel across the restaurant.

Service was SLOW. I waited 20 minutes for a waitress to come ask me if I had even been waited on, then she took my order. While I waited for my appetizers she came back with my Sprite (tasted like a combination of iced tea and Coke), stale corn bread accompanied by cold rolls with semi-frozen butter. The appetizer fried belly clams were sand filled and the corn fritters were covered by burnt batter. By the time I wanted to cancel my entree order, my waitress arrieved with it. The RI calamari was overcooked, chewy with freezer-burn. The intense pungent aroma of pickled hot peppers and its sour juices soggied up my french fries. My friend had four tiny pieces of fried chicken for just $11. Leaving with $49.35 less in my pocket-we had it all, sandy clams, burnt fritters, soggy fries, chewy calamari and a fried chicken kids meal.

Summer Shack is remarkably expensive for what you get. The Lobster roll for instance is a joke. Hardly any Lobster and as expensive as a much larger, more meat filled roll. The way they sell their food, the smaller aps are a bit more than everyone else and the entrees are more as well so you wind up with a bill about 20% higher than you would otherwise think. The atmosphere is cool, however, and there's plenty of parking. I rate this place 6/10.

I was in search for a great seafood restaurant around, and after going to Summer Shack, I found one! I am so thrilled I didn't check the reviews before going. Jasper Whites Summer Shack is a fun place to grab fresh seafood. This fun restaurant is good for parties large and small. Their menu consists of 4 or 5 catches of the day, but have yummy ways of being cooked up. A health conscious place, the restaurant recommends heart healthy plates, however there is also the good ole fried plates available. They have crab nights, and offer lobsters daily. Try their selection of oysters, or order a tower of shellfish. Have someone who doesnt like seafood? They wont be left out as there are non-sea products too. The service is spotty--on a recent visit my apps came out after my dinner and the water never showed, but then on another visit everything was timed perfectly and our waiter was very entertaining. You can eat at one of their two bars as well if you are there alone.

PROS: parking, T
CONS: spotty service

Tonight we thought we'd give the Summer Shack another try. We won't go again. The clam chowder ($4 for a cup and $8 for a bowl) was so watery that it was difficult to eat with a soup spoon. The fish and chips was a rubbery, cold, greasy dish. The calamari was so overcooked, it was difficult to actually chew. We stayed with cheaper eats this time (still expensive) because the last time, the lobster at I believe $30 was so overcooked that it was stuck to the shell. Tonight at least the bartender was attentive. Usually, we get ignored by the waitstaff. But it doesn't make up for the horrible, expensive food. Don't waste your time on this place. There are so many other places you can go to get good, quality seafood at at least half the price and I'm sure the service will be 100% better.

After reading all the reviews here before dining at Summer Shack, had friends not pushed us to join them there, we would have declined due to the reviews. Well, what a pleasant surprise when we arrived and were greeted warmly by the staff, immediately seated, had an attentive and friendly waiter, and the seafood turned out to be totally outstanding. The scallops were juicy and excellent, tuna perfectly cooked, calamari appetizer was spicy and tender, and everyone at my table thoroughly enjoyed their various seafood dishes. OK, it's a little pricey, especially with the bar bill thrown in. Early evening dining is probably the key to having an enjoyable experience here, since the bar will filling up fast as we were leaving, the noise level had risen considerably from the time we arrived, and there was a line of people waiting to be seated at 8:30 p.m. on a weeknight.

Japser's name obviously carries weight in the local seafood industry. The food is incredibly high quality, local fish and lobsters fresh off the boat. The menu changes all the time to reflect local seasons. It was busy and we had to wait, because the place is filled devoted fans, parents who are comfortable bringing their kids and groups of parties who always seem to be having such a good time. Our server was friendly, attentive, fun and knowledgeable about the menu. The casual atmosphere made it entertaining as we ate each delicious dish!! I would go back again and again!

I unfortunately gave this place a second shot, and this time it was a worse experience then before! On a dead Sunday afternoon it took the waiter a good 10 minutes to come and greet us, proceeded to dump chowder all over my boyfriend, and then nothing was taken off the bill! Don't waste your time. There are so many better restaurants to go to that will offer you good service and food for less money

One of the worst experiences I have had in years was at the summer shack. It began in a filthy parking lot which I should have taken as an omen.
Once inside, it seemed like a reunion among the waitstaff as no one came to greet us or sit us down. Once we did sit ourselves, it took 10 minutes for someone to come by and he did not bother taking a drink order. The food was horrible, expensive and not worth it at all. I had fish and chips and the coating was like rubber. I have never had to use a knife to cut a fish and chips but this one needed it.

I will never go here again and will tell anyone to stay away. Save your money and go elsewhere. Burger King has better fries and fish!!

Clearly a famous name doesn't guarantee good food or a pleasant experience. For those prices I'd love to have something more than a school cafeteria's version of seafood and sides. Uncomfortable seats left over from Aku-Aku and brown paper covering VERY old and disgusting vinyl tables are fine at dive bar or deli, but... come to think of it, this is much like a dive. Only in this one you have to go thru a gift shop to leave.

Pros: Loud --> can't hear, babies crying., Funky

Cons: Expensive, Bland

.

oh yes! This place lacks all the necessities required to survive...ambiance, service, good food, reasonable prices. Ordered the most pathetic looking lobster roll. This place is out done by Kelly's in almost every way. I will never go back nor will I ever recommend this shack!

There were definitely a lot of pros: good food, atmosphere, spacious bar. Cons: Food came out cold, long wait, ridiculous prices, and the bartender was pretty slow. After an 1.5 wait (at 9pm!) we decided to just sit and eat @ the bar. We did not get offered roles until we were almost done w/ our meal and our bill for the two of us + tip came to almost 100 dollars!! A little steep in pricing for not that great of an experience. However, I will definitely go back to give it the benefit of the doubt- I believe there could be potential in this place.

After all the rave reviews I'd heard (but I didn't check here), my BF & I had to check this place out. I can deal with a 45 minute wait and sitting at a picnic table to eat a teeny $25 entree...I can't, however, handle bad service and this was honestly the worst we've ever had! We LITERALLY got more attention from the busboy. We were never served bread, only offered one drink & waited 35 minutes after our meal for the check. We were still hungry after such small meals & thought about dessert, but were never even asked. I complained to the manager, but he just handed me a card and told me we'd get a free appetizer the next time we came in...which will be NEVER!! Save yourself the hassle & money - you can be ignored at home...

Pros: Free parking, Fresh seafood

Cons: Horrible service, Miniscule portions, EXTREMELY overpriced

.

This was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. We waited 45 minutes in an empty restaurant (while watching others simply walk to their tables, sit and be served) only to eat cold, barely edible, miniscule amounts of what could easily have been frozen seafood. I'm going to believe that Jasper was too busy with other endeavors to realize that this was a waste of time and reputation.

Small portion of fish was quite good. Side of baby carrots. That was it, all for
18 bucks. Too musch for too little

i WASN'T AS IMPRESSED AS IT WAS MADE OUT TO BE. THE FOOD WAS GOOD BUT A LITTLE PRICEY FOR THE PORTION SIZE. AND THERE WERE TOO MANY INUSUAL THINGS ON THE MENU. IF YOU GO WITH ANYONE WHO SIPLAIN THEY WILL STRUGGLE TO FIND SOMETHING GOOD HERE. AND FOR THE PRICE I WAS SITTING ON A PICNIC TABLE.

Pros: GOOD PARKING, LARGE SEATING AREA

Cons: A LITTLE PRICEY, TOO EXOTIC

.

This place is lousy.

Small portions, served cold, at mediocre prices.

The name would imply a great deal , for alot of food, not looking for ambience.

I went when it had just opened and the fall from "excellence" usually happens much later when it becomes yesterdays news. Which is what this is when it opened

I MADE THE MISTAKE OF GOING BACK AFTER BEING "BURNED" OPENING MONTH. iT'S EVEN WORSE, IF YOU CAN BELIEVE THAT.
#1 SMALL OVERPRICED PORTIONS
#2 (WHAT WAS THAT IN THE "CLAMBAKE"& WHY DO THEY EVEN CALL IT A CLAMBAKE)
#3 LOUSY SERVICE AND BAD ATTITUDE

I FELT RIPPED OFF. AND STUPID FOR GOING BACK.

Went for lunch - right at opening... should have waited...
Hopefully it was just the waitperson I had - but she was not very good, didn't let me know what the specials were *(other staff was very helpful to their tables explaining the board without being asked) and although she only had two tables she was never around...
worst part was when she came over as we were dining on our apps and she said oh, I will put your main meals in now... as a second server brought them to the table... (We were not ready for them)...
I will give this a second go (the food was good enough to try again.

Summer Shack is a traditional New England clam shack on steroids. It's large and the seafood selection encompasses regional specialties up and down the eastern seaboard. Delicious!
