I went to Abe & Louie's with a small group of friends. We were sat outside, overlooking Boylston. They have nice outdoor seating where you can enjoy the outdoors but still feel like you're not in the middle of the busy foot traffic. Our server was very friendly and the wait-staff in general was on top of everything (cleaning off the table, refilling drinks, etc.). We ordered oysters to start which were good. I ordered the ribeye steak which was big and fatty. I ordered it medium-rare - it came out medium - but it was still very delicious. My friends ordered salads and filets. Everyone enjoyed their meal. They have a nice cocktail and wine list and a long dessert menu. I was happy to see they had key lime pie as it is hard to find in Boston. Overall, I had a very nice time at this restaurant.

I love that this place is open on days like Thanksgiving for those who want to avoid family or need some quiet time. The place is usually packed and the prices are often ridiculous however our service has been wonderfully warm and fantastic. The bread basket may be my favorite in town. Their food is always good as it better be for that price. They set themselves up so that if it is not perfect, you will most likely be disappointed because of the price. Thank god I never have been. It is reliably and consistently good and a great place to eat when you need to treat yourself to something good.

My parents were in town visitng, and I decided toward the end of their stay to take them to Abe and Louies. BIG MISTAKE. The waiter was an overly rude snob. When we arrived, there were about 15 minutes left where they were still serving the brunch menu. We wanted lunch, and mentioned this to Daniel (I think that was his name) our waiter. He refused to let us have a lunch menu and then refused to let us order cocktails and appetizers until the 15 minutes had passed and the lunch menu would be available. We decided to leave, and upon our exit, the host stopped us to ask why we were leaving. When I explained what had just happened, his jaw was practically on the floor. He said, he would allow us to pick from the lunch menu, and that he would go talk to the waiter. We decided to pass on this 'experience' and go elsewhere. Awful resturant, and even worse waitstaff. I was so embarrased my family and I had to endure this while they were supossed to be on vacation.

I think Abe & Louie's has a tough time competing with all of the big chain steakhouses in Boston, but I've been here for both brunch and dinner and was pleasantly surprised. For brunch, the eggs benedict with crab meat was amazing, and for dinner, I had a perfectly cooked medium rare filet. The service was excellent, and I was very happy with the wine list. I would definitely return.

My first impression of Abe & Louie's was poor, as the host couldn't seem to find the reservation I had called in two days earlier, and curtly told me to stand in the lobby and wait until the rest of my party arrived.

Dinner ran us about $92 each, including one drink, one steak, one side dish, and one dessert with coffee each, including tax and tip.

There has got to be better food in Boston for this price. My Caesar salad was dry and bland. The bread assortment was rather dry also, and included only dark breads. My $13 glass of wine was a rather frugal pour. The chocolate layer cake, advertised as being made with imported chocolate, was disapointing too. Plenty of cake, but nothing special about the chocolate -- and, you guessed it, pretty dry.

The steaks, mashed potatoes, and Abe & Louie's salad with apples and pistachios went over better. But not enough to get us to return.

Noise level was very high -- lots of heavy-drinking, loud-talking men at neighboring tables.

I frequented Abe & Louie's on my last visit to Boston. The experience was fantastic! Great food, service and location -- and, most important, great times were had by all. Would definitely recco to anyone looking for a steakhouse dinner in Back Bay.

My last visit here was terrible. My wife and I were craving steak so we headed to A&L. My wife has a food allergy (gluten) that we immediately brought to the attention of the hostess and our waiter. They assured us that they handle this kind of allergy all the time and that there would be nothing to worry about. Sure enough, my wife's salad came out full of croutons. The waiter apologized and sent it back. He then brought out "another" salad that upon first glance seemed fine. As my wife started eating it, she found another crouton in the middle of the salad. I assume they just tried to take the croutons out of the original salad. For all of you celiacs out there that know that this is unacceptable as any cross contamination can cause a severe reaction, DO NOT GO TO A&L. My wife's filet was flavorless at best. My strip was fine so i can't complain about that. The manager came out to see if everything was ok. Of course we told him about the salad situation. His response " I will give you my phone number, please call if your wife get's sick". Yeah, because, we were going to call him from the hospital at 3am when she gets sick... The best part was that the manager left to get his business card and never came back. Last but not least, we were charged for the salad. Never going back to A&L

No matter what they always strive to a grand high level of customer service and I never hesitate to go or suggest to others that they eat here.
A fine example of great service, food and ambiance.

This is a great place to go if you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or any special event. The atmosphere is like a study from an old movie with rich woods, high back chairs and white linens. The service was good but a little slow...but the food makes up for it! Their house salad is great and my filet was cooked perfectly! We had a great bottle of wine and shared a dessert recommended by our waiter which was also fabulous!

Few places are as consistently rude and pompous. I am frequently forced to bring clients to Abe and Louie's due to work stipulations and never seem to have a pleasant experience. The Maitre d's that "welcome" you do so in a way that exudes arrogance and superiority. This would be excusable if the food backed it up, but I find that Abe and Louie's rides on their name and "reputation", and delivers a subpar meal and overall dining experience. You can definitely get over charged at much finer places

It's funny. I was reading all the review before taking my boyfriend here for his birthday.
I've been to A&L's before, but it was years ago and I didn't quite remember what it was like.
I was a bit nervous because I really wanted him to have an excellent meal on his birthday.
The person who answered the phone was a bit rude so I was VERY nervous that the waiters might be the same way. Not true at all. (We went on a Thursday night) First of all, it is LOUD in there. Most of its customers are Professionals. I had to speak loudly and my boyfriend was less than 3 feet away from me. Second, yes, the hostesses wear clothing that is... scandalous. Low LOW LOW cut shirts and Short Short skirts.... haha. Third, they did basically clear our table/fill our drinks QUICKLY. This can be a pro or con for people. Our glasses of water were never even half empty! It was a little bit annoying that the waitstaff was coming over every 5minutes to literally throw water into our glasses while I was trying to have a conversation with my bf. Otherwise, it was quite amusing seeing that woman fly through tables filling up water glasses, place bread on their tables, and clear plates. Food was excellent. We both had the filet-on the bone. Full of flavor! I didn't even use the sauce on the side. The potatos and asparagas that we ordered was a different story.. we weren't too impressed by them.

Abe and Louies can't be beat. I have never had a bad meal here. The servers are attentive and knowledgeable and although the bill can add up, you get what you pay for. I recommend trying the creamed spinach (their no cream version) for a side. Pair your meal with a great martini from the bar or allow the server to suggest a complimentary wine to your meal, either way you won't be disappointed.

Since I moved to Boston 4 years ago, Abe & Louie's has been my favorite restaurant. We've gone for anniversaries, valentines, company dinners and Thanksgiving twice! The filet is the absolute best I've ever tasted, the seafood tower is worth every penny if you have a group of 6 or more. I cannot say enough about this place and I recommend it to everyone. if you're looking for a top notch steak and seafood place this is it. I guarantee you won't be dissapointed!

I have eaten here several times and I am never dissapointed with the highly attentive and friendly wait staff. They are extremely knowledgable and very friendly. The food here is to die for! I am not a steak eater, but everyone I know who eats a steak from here cannot stop raving about it...also the sordfish is unbelievable! If you like salads try the Abe and Louies salad it is very good. This place is clean and friendly, not snobby or pretentious by any means! Be prepared to pay a pretty price as it is expensive, but is worth every penny! I would highly recommend reserving a table! Also it is not a quiet restaurant, I don't mind this at all, but if you are looking for a quiet evening this would not be the place to have it. Great for business dinners because you can talk and not worry that the entire restaurant can hear you.

probably the best stakes in boston; the sunday brunch is amazing -- the best dish is the steak benedict; the orange juice is fresh squeezed

prices are high, but you get what you pay for. Great service too.

As a frequent customer of Abe and Louie's I would like to highly recomend this steak house. The food is fabulous and can stand alone as a reason to dine there. The servers are above and beyond a typical wait staff, professional, sweet, and interesting. Abe and Louie's has a comfortable classy friendly ambiance with a large management staff on at all times to assist costumers as well as a friendly welcoming host staff. The hostess here are classy and professional, not to mention very beautiful. I can not recall one incodent where i was not greated as i entered or not thanked on the way out. although the food can seem pricey, the trip to Abe and Louie's is well worth it. Highly recomended, reservations are recomended as well.

First time in Boston and we asked a local for the best steaks in town and he said, "Abe & Louie's". He was right. We were a group of 4 and just walked right off the street without reservations, (which I would definetly recommend). We didn't wait long, though. Our waiter was wonderful and treated us with kindness and a touch of humor. He took the time to explain the menu and offered different options. We started off with the Best Clam Chowder we had ever tasted. Then we headed straight for the main course, the Steaks, accompanied by our sides of spinach and mashed potatoes, which complemented the steaks wonderfully. The Filet Mignon and Ribeye were awesome!!! The steaks cut like butter. To finish off the wonderful meal, we topped it off with Creme Brulee, which was to die for. Dinner for 4 $240 but well worth every penny.

I go there just for the cheese burger. Cheddar cheese, side of fries- best 13 bucks I've ever spend. I always get great service-you can walk in and sit your self at the bar. The food comes fast and friendly staff. I tried the union strings the other day and was not impressed, but the bread basket and burger are great. you can walk in in casual or business casual-doesn't matter. BUT for the burger you must go at lunch, although i asked for the burger at dinner and got it anyways.

My mother and I stumbled upon this restaurant and after comparing with the Atlantic fish co. next door decided that Abe and Louise's had more people. We started off sharing the Manhattan fish chowder (special) which did not resemble boston clam chowder at all (a relief). It was a orange broth with tender fish flakes and spicy sausage. The flavor was light, tangy and exciting. We then had the jumbo shrimp cocktail (menu). There were 4 pieces of shimp and two types of dip. The cocktail dip had fresh grated ginger -a good addition. The shrimp were HUGE and fresh- the finest quality possible. I prefer lemon juice and salt because it allows you to fully appreciate the freshness of the seafood, which is only possible with premium quality. This was the best shrimp cocktail I'd ever had. Lastly we shared a lobster steak salad ($25) which wasone whole lobster with one sliced steak on top of some pre-tossed greens. The combination was stunning and the taste is probably not replicable. Overall the price was definately worth it because. 1. the quality is the best. 2. they are very attentive to the sauces and taste 3. the people watching is short of idyllic 4. service is above average (not perfect) 4. seated immediately (weekday, noon).

We went again and shared an abe and louise's salad followed by a bacon cheeseburger. The waiter was very friendly and accomodated our every need. The salad was above average, but not excellent. It was a little on the salty side. The hamburger on the other hand was amazing. The buns are soft and fluffy and the patty was moist and tender. The bacon was fried just right (not too crispy) and the fries were something I have never seen. Even the mustard was made with white wine (very yummy). Both salad and hamburger were brought out on separate plates (we were sharing). We were both overstuffed and couldn't take dessert but had a wonderful experience. Would reccomend thrice-over. A reliable and solid choice in Boston.

My husband celebrated my 30th Birthday with a day in Boston, including Redsox-Yankee Game! We went to Abe & Louise's for lunch. We were seated immediately, even without a reservatio., We got a small table within arms length of of another party, which I guess you expect in Boston. We ordered the Abe & Louie Salad and the french onion soup for apps, both were execellent. For our main course we had the bone in filet, the 'special' blackened delmonico. Both were delisious, but the filet was Out of This World! Melted in your mouth! Overall the resturant & service lived up to the hype of this boston steakhouse:)

This place certainly ranks among the top steakhouses in BOSTON...but if you've been around the country for business and had your fair share of business expense steaks you understand that they are pretty mediocre among the rest of the superpremium steakhouses. You can rattle off 10 steakhouses in NY alone that put this place in the minor leagues....BUT if you're in Boston you have limited options and it is certainly up to par with the other places in town. What they really need to improve on at this place is service. Many obnoxious waiters who are inattentive after they take the initial order as well as busboys who can't seem to do anything except clear dirty dishes from the table. If you ask them a question you get a classic "deer in the headlights" look. But the general perception among Bostonians is that this is THE place to go for steak. So if you have a client in the area - you can't lose by taking him here.

If you ask them a question you get a classic "deer in the headlights" look. But the general perception among Bostonians is that this is THE place to go for steak. So if you have a client in the area - you can't lose by taking him here.

Pros: Food, Decor, "wow" factor when entertaining locals

Cons: Service

In addition to the wonderful food; the staff is accomodating, pleasant and make the whole dining experience very enjoyable.

My husband and I shared our first date here 4 years ago and went back to relive that great night. However we were highly disappointed. The server was sweet but lacked the professionalism and polish expected when paying over 40 dollars for a steak. The courses were rushed, in fact our steaks came out before the appetizer was cleared -- leaving us holding our plates in the air! The bus boy who was an older man was annoying and tried clearing our plates ten times! I got the bone in filet and it was fatty and undercooked. The aspargus is better at any chain restaurant or my own kitchen. The dessert was medicore. The highlight was a charming and knowlegable sommelier.

Needless to say we will not be back and would not recommend this place. Capital Grill and Smith & Wollensky exceed this place! It's sad but management needs to get this place back to where it was. Even the host was not friendly or professional. The host looked like she was dressed for duty at Whiskey's not Abe & Louies!

I've been here a few times and everytime the food is cooked perfectly. The filet is always perfect and make sure you order it with the melted cheddar(along with the steak will be a small serving bowl with melted cheddar he will pour on top of the steak for you). The only problem I have with Abe and Louie's is, being significantly younger than most of the crowd, they tend to throw you in a corner or perhaps not be as attentive to your table. I see waitiers be very attentive to other tables of the older patrons but me and my girlfriend are usually their last priority. Other than that- Highly Recommended

Abe and Louis is one of the best in Boston for a satisfying and generously sized filet. Their bar is also a hot spot for the young, professional crowd.

Walked in years ago shortly after their startup, still love it. Pricey yes, a bit loud, but the food.... it IS worth it! Try the seared ahi, amazing. Go Thursday and do try the Beef Wellington. Tomato and Great Hill Bleu Cheese salad: love it. This has been a favorite for years. Mario is an amazing server. I've NEVER been disappointed.

Four of us planned on a excellent dinner and received an over-priced, average dinner. My wife's steak was under cooked & her Abe & Louie salad had yellow wilted lettuce. My porterhouse steak was ok, but not great. Two of us ordered a glass of Cab. and it was the smallest glass of wine I have ever seen. My sister-in-law ordered a Coke and it came in a 8 oz. bottle. I was asked two or more times by a server, what did I want on my baked potatoe. She was not paying attention. I did not find this to be an intimate dining experience. I found it to be over priced . I would not go back.

I recently "dined" (using that term loosly) at A&L with 5 other people to celebrate my birthday, and I was not impressed at all. To start with, our waiter took over 5 minutes to come and greet us, and when he finally arrived I found him quite pushy and abrupt. When a friend and I each ordered a glass of wine he insisted that we get a bottle instead. we told him we did not want a bottle, just a glass. we did not see him again until he came to present us with the check, since he did not bring our food to us or clear any of our plates My steak was ordered medium rare and came out medium well, though the sides were not bad. Also I was very disappointed that he did nothing to acknowledge my birthday. So much for spending my special occassion with A&L.

Without a reservation, my party of 4 was seated immediately on Saturday night about 7:40 (but I wouldn't recommend trying it!) The waiter took a while to find his way over, asked us if we wanted to order to which we replied that we wanted to order wine first. He then disappeared for a long time, returned to take our wine and dinner order simultaneously (al the wile we snaked on the yummy bread basket). Our apps arrived before the wine - which was very disappointing. The food was quite good and plentiful. Steaks were juicy and sides of masked potatoes and spinach were tasty. The swordfish steak was ENORMOUS as was the tuna steak. The chocolate souffle was delicious and not too rich. All in all, a positive experience but for the service which should have been 100% instead of just 50%.

I actually had some good food and steak was really good ,some nice touches like the high end tea,and spectacular steak sauces etc... but the weird waiter and no english busser made the service a little "screwy" however they did try and were nice and helpful.Overall this still might be better than most other steak places

A&L has a little something for everyone. It's a good date spot, has an active bar scene, delicious food & great drinks & wines. Try the bleu cheese & walnut apple salad. This is definitely a power lunch/dinner place yet romantic & relaxing at the same time. The bar is where most of the action goes down. It's a compact area but you don't mind getting a little close and sharing fun convo & drinks with your neighbor. I won $500 on a bet one night. Paid in cash. Never know who you're going to meet....

I was given a gift certificate by my family for my wife's and I anniversary. A friend of the family swore by this place. I've been to many steak places and I would put this steak near the bottom. The ambience was very nice, clean, upscale. The service was impeccable. The food was alright. We each ordered the steak and though it was decent, I wasn't impressed. Especially for the price. Capital Grille was much better. Outback has a much better steak for much less. I can't comment on other menu items, maybe their better, however, if you're looking for a steak dinner I wouldn't waste your money. Not much taste. Not very tender (ordered medium rare) For the price and the reputation, I expected a steak that melts in your mouth and this wasn't it. Can't see me going back there.

While the food was great, the rudeness of the service staff in rushing us (4 people, paying $78 pp!) was amazing!

When a waiter asked "Can I take the bread away?" and was told "Only if absolutely necessary", she took it away anyway! She came twice in two (!) minutes trying to take a spinach plate away. She eventually just took the plate and went. The waiters literally "stole" our half-finished dinner plates from under our noses! They brought us a check with our desert! Then, they came twice to check of we have paid already before we even had a chance to finish the desert. Eventually, when we were counting the money, the waiter just grabbed the book with cash out of our hands!
I'll never go to that place again and do not recommend others. The rude service ruined any pleasure we might had derived from excellent food.

Went on a Sunday evening, menu was very similiar to a lot of steakhouses in the area, as was the decor, but the waiter , went out of his way to accomodate us, his name was Cooper, and he made an ok meal a great one . Very helpful, the steaks themselves I would have like to have seen trimmed a little more for gristle, but the flavor was there , beef tartare ap was perfect, side of mushrooms and asparagus, and fries perfect. Decor was old mans club feel though.

We stopped at Abe & Louie's for brunch. We received excellent service and the food was probably the best meal that we had in Boston for the week that we were there. The restaurant prides itself in the high quality of service that they provide. I was told that reservations are hard to get on Friday and Saturday nights, so plan ahead.

This is the one of the worse restaurant I had ever been to... I ordered the sword fish... pretty expensive compare to other main course in the menu... when it came, the fish was burned and no taste at all, I had a couple bites but it was just too bad to be eaten... This is the first and only time that I have like more than 95% of the dish left on the plate... and don't want to take out at all...
My husband ordered a steak, it was alright... with the price they charged... the quility of the steak is just not good enough...

We have been here several times for special occasions. Food is spectacular and service top-notch. The only down-side is being seated near bar as it tends to get very populated and can deter from a romantic dinner. This is always our first choice for steak dinner in Boston.
