A waitress of your staff was rude to me the moment she sat us down at our table. She was very short in her conversation, not friendly, unavailable for service several times, and had a negative attitude. She placed the bill on our table, but never returned to collect our credit card. Since my party and I had to catch the Harvard Shuttle, we decided to pay at the front counter, instead of waiting on her to return to collect our credit card. Upon approaching the front register, she stopped us, and blocked us from going any farther, as if we were attempting to leave without paying; until she saw that we had the receipt holder in our hands. At this moment, I told the hostess at the front of the restaurant that the particular waitress had treated us rudely, and that she assumed that we were going to leave without paying, gesticulating and frowning at us threateningly. Her actions seemed to reflect an alarmed instinct when she saw us walking toward the register near the restrooms, not the door.

At this point, I spoke with the "Manager", because the hostess shortly and rudely told me to speak with him, not her. He held both my arms, as if to apologize for the incident. However, he did not apologize for the incident, and when I asked him to please not touch me, he responded to my comment with a homophobic insult saying that he "would not touch me", because "he did not want to make love to me", and continued to go on about not wanting to touch me "like that", when I never asked for him to touch me in the first place. He was completely dismissive, and overlooked the issue, which repeatedly showed all three employee's inaptitude in customer service. I will make sure to boycott this restaurant, and to tell my friends of the subtly racist and homophobic treatment I felt there. I will not support establishments with bad customer service, and that expect its customers to accept discriminatory treatment, without complaint. I will never dine in this restaurant for the rest of my one and a half year left in the Cambridge area, and will persuade my friends to avoid this establishment altogether, even as a last resort.

Just about every college student in Boston hits the Hong Kong at some point in their career. It's practically impossible to avoid. That doesn't mean it's a good idea, though. The scorpion bowl, ubiquitous on every table, are hardly worth the money - they're filled with juice, ice, and not much else. Of course, if you think you're getting drunk, the placebo effect will get you a little tipsy. One plus - the scorpion bowl comes decorated with tiny plastic trinkets and mile-long straws, perfect for playing with in lieu of trying to hold a conversation over the loud music. And if you do somehow feel tipsy, there's plenty of fried Chinese food to sop it all up.

Pros: little plastic charms floating in the scorpion bowls

Cons: do they even put liquor in the drinks?

The recently redecorated restaurant, affectionately known as The Kong, has a bit of a trashy reputation. But don't let that turn you away! The Kong has delicious food and fun drinks. The Scorpion Bowl is a drink that is not to be missed - just don't try to drink it all yourself. I love the crab rangoon and the scallion pancakes, as well as the mushu chicken. Can be a bit over-priced, but the service is fast and the food is delicious greasy Chinese.

Scorpion bowls= sugar and the cheapest alcohol they have. Just watch them make it and you'll see..I have not eaten at this place but from the decor one could image the experience.

Scorpion Bowl. Mention those two words to any Harvard student or alum from the last 20 years and they'll know exactly what you are talking about.

I'm not sure I've ever eaten at the Hong Kong. I'm sure I have and it's probably just fine. But the big draw isn't the food it's the magical, mystical scorpion bowl -- a giant glass filled with some red alcoholic fruity substance and little plastic scorpions. Look around the Hong Kong and you'll see dozens of bowls usually with 2 or 3 straws sticking out of them (it's socially acceptable to share a scorpion bowl). Before you know it, you're well into your third or fourth scorpion bowl and suddenly the blaring music from the 3rd floor club is irresistable.

5 Stars!

I do not recommend coming here. The place is quite large and very far from Harvard Square. It is about a 6 block walk. However, this does not matter because the food is terrible here.

The kind of food they serve is Chinese food. I tried the chow mein. It was not good at all. The portions they give you is pretty large, but the food is overly greasy.

There are not a lot of Chinese Food places in Harvard Square but the Hong Kong is not what you want.

The place also does not look nice but the prices are good.

Three levels: One is a chinese food restaurant, the second, a lively bar filled with Harvard girls, and the third is a sweaty, hip-hop club. It's lively and inexpensive.

Well the food here isn't very good. It's not terrible or anything. Frankly, after you have four Scorpion Bowls, it's downright delicious! And the Scorpion Bowls are gooood, which means they get you really, really hammered. It's always crowded and it's a fun, diverse clientele. It's the perfect birthday place! They also have a dance floor that's pretty fun.

This is a nice place to hang out with some friends, even meet some new people too. There is good entertainment and the drinks are good too. I would say this is a nice place to go on Thursday nights. :) Just to relax and hang out. Dress casually.

Bar, dance club, and restaurant all in one. I haven't eaten at the restaurant in the first floor, but I love the scorpion bowls. The bar and club floors (2nd and 3rd floor) are kind of ghetto with lots of sketchy guys lined along the wall watching the girls. But, this place is really close to everything and has something for everyone, so it's easy to get a big group to go together. The music was fun and if you've got a group, it can be a blast.

if you're a harvard student, at some point or other you will be initiated into the ways of the scorpion bowl at the kong. the food's OK, and the atmosphere's kitschy fun; definitely worth a trip.
