Since Dr. Harris has taken over the practice, the service is outstanding. I would not consider leaving her or the staff. I had also been there with Dr. Oliver, but the quality now is outstanding. If you are looking for a knowledgeable doctor and staff, this is where you should go. They do their best to accommodate schedules and their patience with my dogs is so good.

I agree with many of the previous comments. I have seen Dr. Oliver be incredibly rude to his staff (tho he's much better now). And I always thought he ran up the bills, esp. with the no Rx policy. His "bedside" manner was very direct. (Not being female, I can't say he ever looked at my chest.) However, I remain a customer because his diagnoses are always spot on and he is an outstanding surgeon. MORE IMPORTANT: TRY THIS PLACE AGAIN!!! He took on a partner, who I believe is buying him out. Her name is Rebeka Harris, she has 7 + years experience since graduating from MSU. She is WONDERFUL. Great bedside manner, wonderful empathy for pets, deep knowledge of issues and she works to help you minimize cost. You can tell that the staff (and other customers) love her. If you can't stand to work with Dr Oliver, just make sure you ask for her when you make an appt. This is not written by one of Dr O's employees and the opinion of Dr Harris reflects the experience of 3 family members over several visits.

I used to work for this guy many, many years ago. Behind the scenes he is even worse than the tableside manner he presents. He tells people he will "give" something, when he should be saying he will "prescribe" something. Even back then people were staggered by their bill for a "simple" visit. I never thought he would stay in business this long...but coming from money must help. The ONLY people who could possibly give him a good rating are family, friends, new staff members and maybe someone with a new puppy who hasn't experienced a pet's illness yet. Otherwise, this guy is a big fat zero.

First off the staff was inconsistent one was professional another was texting on their phone and had misplaced my paperwork. I sat in a waiting room of wood church benches and watched and dogs jumped up on them and slide off hitting the floor. NOT PET SAFE SEATING.

After visiting this vet for a simple concern regarding a cats injury the vet had an assistant come into the room with him to hold my well behaved pet down. I've never had an experience where the vet needed assistance restraining an animal for a simple exam. The Dr than proceeded to tell me to return in two weeks again after giving my cat steroids. But this is not my concern my concern was when after two days from the vet visit my pet began to cough and sneeze. I took the cat to another vet I was informed my pet most likely acquired its respiratory infection from another animal. My cat has not been around another animal in its lifetime, only indoor pet, and I do not let it near other animals in the waiting room.

While I think Dr Oliver is a competent Vet, He was killing me with the costs for all of the tests he insisted on. He made me feel like I didn't care about my dog if I said I didn't want the test. My dog suffers from allergies and recurring ear infections, After about $2500 we got the allergies under control (took about a year), and every ear infection cost me about $500 before it was over. He insisted on doing a culture, even though it was always the same result. He would give the dog a shot while my head was turned and then of course I would get charged.

When my dog once again got an ear infection this week, I decided to do what everyone had been telling me for a long time, switch vets. I took her to a new clinic, while it was not a newly remodeled office, it was very clean and adequate. It was like a breath of fresh air. They prescribed only what she needed, not the 2 or 3 meds I always left Dr Olivers office with. They didn't try to talk me into tests and unnecessary shots and the cost was half of what I had to pay at Dr Olivers office.

I wish I would have listened to people sooner I could have saved a ton of money.

I've been taking my little pugs to Dr Oliver for 2 years now. Let me assure you that I am not a staff member. The costs have been extremely reasonable and any procedures they've had, they have recovered from with no complications. I wouldn't trust just anyone with my pups.

I just wanted to thank Dr. Oliver for all he tried to do for our 13 year old golden retreiver. He was so understanding when we had to let her go. He even sent us a sympathy card and signed it. It touched my heart. Excellent vet. R Grignon

Went in to purchase hartworm medicine. Rude, lazy staff. How does this guy stay in business? Looks like they dont miss many meals but sure cant wait on a customer. Acted like they were doing me a favor by a simple greeting. Perhaps I interupted their next meal or maybe I should have brought them some dog treats:) Dr. may be great but you have to get past the lazy staff at some point. Good luck.

Dr Oliver is by far the BEST vet I've ever taken my animals to. He is respectful, compassionate and caring. One time my dog Daisy was sick...I took her to a different vet who could not tell me what was wrong with her. They told me I could pay $349 for a test that would help them figure out what was wrong with her and if she needed surgery. That was in addition to the over $300 they charged me and weren't able to tell me what was wrong. I called Dr Oliver he said to bring Daisy in and that day he called and told me her stomach was inflammed. That she's be ok but had to stay at the hospital for a couple days. The next day I got a call that Daisy was doing better. She got to come home after 3 days and when she got home she was her happy self again. I've referred friends and family members to Dr Oliver who have also loved the service and the care he gives to each animal. Each and every time I go to Trenton Veterinary Hospital I am treated with respect and the best customer service! I love the referral program and I tell everyone to take their animals to Dr Oliver! In my opinion there is no other vet downriver to go to!!!! -Cindy H.

This is NOT the Vet you want to go to! I was referred to him when my animal needed a simple procedure and ended up paying a huge fee. Complete payment was demanded at once and they (staff and Vet) were very rude and insulting and would not agree to a reasonable payment schedule! There were other people in the waiting room and I was really embarrassed! I was FORCED to give them my banking info so they could take it out TWO payments, they flatly refused to let me have more than 2 weeks to pay it (bill was close to $700 which was about 3 times what the procedure should have been) and since I am on disability posed a great hardship to me! They could have cared less!!! I belong to several animal rescue groups downriver and have alerted all to NOT refer anyone else to this Vet! Dr Oliver actually made my animal wait an extra 2 weeks to have sutures removed to make sure he got his MONEY! He is rude and drool and could care less about the animals welfare! He is in it for as much as he can charge! Unless you have unlimited credit and money is no object, do not go here!!!!!!!!!

He was a very nice vet. All the staff loved our puppy, and gave him enough treats to last him a year lol. The doctor was very thoughout and they have this really nice program that if you pay in cash you get a certain percent off (anywhere from 5 to 20%). The doctor also offers a liquid heartworm medication that is more cost effective than the pill form. We will be bringing our puppy back to them again.

It must be nice that you have such a way with your staff. Not liking your reviews and then having your staff (mm, fs, pt and sl) write a "good" review shows first hand how poor of a doctor you are. My experience with Dr. Oliver over the years has been terrible. When I have taken my pets in for care I have felt like Dr. Oliver paid more attention to my breast than to my pet. Ask me if I'll ever go back to his clinic again or refer family or friends...the answer will be a HELL NO.

I have been going to Trenton Veterinary Hospital for over 10yrs. I have found Dr. Oliver and his staff to be very caring. Dr. Oliver has always taken the time to answer any question I may have had no matter how minor or stupid they seemed. I have also found over the years that their costs have always been very reasonable and believe me in these times I have checked with others. I would recommend Dr. Oliver to anyone that wants great care with affordable pricing.

Thanks Dr. Oliver and staff for being there for my pets for 20 years and counting. I love the updates in medicine and techniques (surgical laser) that happen at your office. All of my cats have been 4 paw declawed and the surgery went great. They all came home acting like normal, and I didn't have to mess around with shredded paper litter or anything else.
I hope to see the office there for a long time. My last cats were 17 years old when they passed. I plan on these 3 making it at least that long.

I have been a client of Dr Oliver for over 15 years now. My pets have always received excellent treatment from him as well as from his caring staff. His prices are very fair and he spends a lot of extra time with my pets. I feel that he really cares about his patients.
The staff has been there for many years and are friendly as well as knowledgeable. I feel like they are part of my family. I thoroughly recommend this hospital!

Hello,

I have been to almost every veterinarian in the downriver area. Dr. Oliver is by far the best. I was very impressed with his knowledge and care. I took my dog in to get a check up and shots. Dr. Oliver inspected every inch of my dog, thoroughly and patiently. He even explained everything while he was doing the check up. I almost felt entertained and happy to be there because I knew that my dog, Brittney, was in good hands and I felt included in the process.

Everything about Dr. Oliver and his practice is very professional. He has a beautiful building on West Jefferson with the most helpful, patient, caring staff I have ever met. I thought for sure he was just extra nice and went the extra mile just to over-charge me. Boy, was I wrong! Brittney's check up and shots were extremely affordable!

The whole experience was really great. I refer him to all of my friends and family. I wish I would have been going to him for years.

Dr Oliver is very competent and knowledgeable. I brought my cat in after he suffered a fall and was not walking. He did a through examination and advised me that he was looking for more that a possible broken leg. He x-rayed my pet to see if his bladder was affected and it was in fine but the ball joint on his leg was broken off. He preformed the surgery (head and neck resection) that day. I was worried before the surgery, but Dr Oliver assured me that my cat would walk completely normal. He was right! It has been several months and looking at him walking you would never know that his hip was ever broken. It was a complicated surgery and my pet recovered completely! Thanks Dr Oliver.

Dr. John Oliver genuinely cares about the animals that he treats at Trenton Vet Hospital and their owners. I had a 9 year old setter that began showing sudden and unexpected aggressive behavior to my family and friends. Dr. Oliver talked to me about different behavioral problems and causes, and things to try. Still she was growling and showing her teeth, barking at her own family. He then ran extensive blood work, x rays, and tried different behavior modifying drugs. Our dog was still showing aggression to the people she loved and who loved her. I cannot tell you how hurt and worried we were. Dr. Oliver was so kind and I think he genuinely felt our pain. He said that he wished there was more that he could do. When our blood work results came from the lab, he called us personally to give us the results. There was no apparent physical problem causing this extreme change in our dogs behavior. He suggested she might have a tumor in her brain. Finally after and especially frightening show of aggression we decided to euthanize our dog before someone got hurt by her. Dr. Oliver stayed late that night to care for our dog, one last time. The kindness and the gentleness he showed to our dog and to me was very touching and I appreciate it more than I can say. I have three other pets and I will continue to put my trust in Dr. Oliver and his recent associate Dr. Mann.

This veterinarian (Dr. Oliver/Dr. Death) is rude, insensitive, and very likely negligent. The previous reviewer ("Every two weeks, every two weeks") described the situation I experienced in an eerily familiar and painful story. My beloved dog was a family member and I lost her, perhaps too soon, due to Dr. Oliver's rush to get me to pay for unnecessary tests and (as I later found out, but too late) his inability to actually pay attention to my comments about the dog's actual symptoms.

I don't mind paying fees, even high fees, for services rendered. But this man is just out for a buck, he doesn't listen to (or care about) his patients' comments or concerns, and his bedside manner is so rude, I honestly don't know how this guy ever has a second visit from any patient.

If you care about your pet, take him or her somewhere, ANYWHERE else, at any cost. (Why does he still have a license?)

I am not sure where the last poster was going, but I can tell you that it wasn't this vet. I had been seeing this vet for over 8 years. He is actually the uncle of a good friend. I found his table-side manner left much to be desired, but all in all a good vet. It wasn't until my dogs were getting older that I started feeling like I was being taken. Every time, no matter what the reason, ear infection, bladder infection, upper respiratory, arthritis. You name it, it was always the same. Come back in two weeks. I was seriously there every two weeks, every two weeks for a year. The problems were never fully resolved and he charged full price office visits for rechecks. Oh and he'll buy back medications you don't use. If he decides to change the meds in the middle of treatment. This sounds like a nice gesture, but think about it. The meds he is prescribing you pet could have been returned by someone else. Would you want that if it was your own medication? Also he has his own pharmacy, he refuses to write prescriptions. Some of the meds he dispenses cost triple what you could get them for at the local pharmacy. And again who knows where they have been. I have never seen anyone in that office love or cuddle a pet. Ever. I have three dogs and was there at least 15 times a year. No one ever remembered me or my dogs. The final straw was when my 16 year old dog was being treated for vestibular disease (a potentially fatal infection of the central nervous system) Dr. Oliver convinced me to spend the money to hospitalize her because he was 90 percent certain he could bring her out of it. She couldn't walk when she came home. Again, every two weeks, every two weeks. I'd finally had enough so had my dog. She was suffering. I had her put to sleep. He couldn't come to the house, he said he didn't have the proper equipment. I called someone else. Apparently he didn't have 2 syringes a stethoscope and a vehicle. Because that's all it required. He never called to check on her progress, he never even inquired about her once. She had been gone for 6 months when I got a phone call reminding me of her annual vaccine appointment. I prefer a vat with compassion and caring. Not someone out for the quick buck, praying on peoples emotions to keep them coming back every two weeks, every two weeks.

Not someone out for the quick buck, praying on peoples emotions to keep them coming back every two weeks, every two weeks.

.

I have taken my pets here for a few decades. The doctors are caring and love animals. They are moderately priced for the services they have to offer. I prefer them to the others in the area because the building is kept clean and it doesn't smell. They all seem to love animals, they love and cuddle every animal that comes in the door.
