I had came here with two of threee of my sisters here once. We had a nice time and we ate good tender steak and laughed about memories and future goals in our life. Sarah she is 23 my younger sister, is planning on marrying her boyfriend of 3 years soon. This place is a good place to hangout and get a quality meal at the same time.

Went our for my anniversary thinking about great steak and good wine, only to see a mouse running the floor. The server seemed un-phased when notified. No apology no visit from a manger. Shame on Murray's.

I've only eaten here once, but I'll remember it for a long time. Quite simply the best piece of meat I've ever eaten. I don't remember the sides, it was all eclipsed entirely by the steak. Every bite was fantastic, and although I had resolved to bring some home with me, I couldn't stop myself from finishing it off.

I grant that some of my perceptions may have been due to their excellent wine selection.

I also concede that some may find it quite salty. It's probably their seasoning blend that does it, so I doubt you could ask for a low-salt version of this. I frankly didn't notice the saltiness myself, not beyond the first bite in any case.

My first time visiting Murray's as many have said their steaks are better than Manny's. Having been to both now, I prefer Manny's over Murray's. I honestly want to give a good review for this restaurant as they have been in business for 63 yrs and I entirely support local Minneapolis restaurants but the over salted food really killed the experience for me. We ordered the butter knife steak for 3 and my other guest ordered a tenderloin. They were all entirely too salty. The garlic toast was entirely too salty as well.

The meat was good quality; there is no denying that. At first, our server seemed really angry but lightened up towards the end of the night when I made jokes with her. They really do care about service; the manager walked over and asked us how everything was. I didn't have the heart to tell him that the food was too salty.

My husband and I have been going here for the last 4 years for our wedding anniversary...This last time we were a little dissapointed in our service and food! We ordered the huge appetizer and it was a little burnt....My steak wasn't that hot and it was too salty. Our server wasn't as friendly as she has been in the past! At these prices, I found too many problems! This year we decided to try Jax instead and compare the two. To be continued....

I can't say the food was bad and I can't say it was excellent. It didn't stand out like some said in earlier reviews but it certainly didn't suck. We probably wouldn't go back but just because it is a bit overpriced and a bit out of our way. The staff were super friendly though and very attentive.

I had heard such raving reviews about this restaurant so I was eager to try it. The steak was good but did not live up to my expectations since I had heard such rave reviews. I did like the old time atmosphere of the place and our waiter was prompt and courteous.

We ordered the "silver butter knife steak" for two and were grossly disappointed. Our server brought it out, and as she was carving it at the table, she had the sniffles. Nothing worse than wanting to enjoy a great steak when all you can think about is your server sniffling over your food. The decor is outdated. Although some people don't like the ultra-tendy restaurants, or change, but this place was just outdated and could use a good remodel. Nothing special about this place makes us want to come back. Can get a better steak at Pittsburgh Blue, among other steakhouses.

My hat's off to the kitchen, but at a recent dinner we were served by nothing less than an arrogant jerk. We were a large table (8) and he was focused on emptying as much wine as possible, pouring huge glasses for people who already had 2 full ones in front of them. He swaggered around carrying 2 bottles in each hand, pushed his way between people in conversation, etc. When we saw him leave the restaurant at closing, our host (a long time waiter and complete gentleman) stopped him and tried to give him some feedback. The guy had the nerve to tell him he "did a poor job as host" of the table! Unbelievable. Ruined our night at what should have been a festive evening. Jerk. The Mgt should set the proper tone for their servers and fire this clown. I have his picture if they are interested.

Murray's is an enjoyable way to experience an old-style steakhouse in Minneapolis. It lives up to its billing and doesn't have pretense to being anything beyond that, so if visit the website and read about it you should know what to expect. For my pre-Orpheum Theatre dinner on a weeknight it fit our expectations well.

The service was excellent and the food was served promptly. The trademark Silverbutter Knife steaks are very large so my companion and I opted for the 8 oz Dinner Steaks instead. The steaks were prepared as ordered and delicious. I am not a frequent steak eater, but enjoy well prepared quality steak and got it here. The au gratin potatoes were quite good. I choose the tossed salad which was nothing special, but my companion got a beet salad, which was good and more distinctive. The dining room was not busy early on a Thursday night, but it seemed quite roomy so it could accomodate being filled.

The main shortcoming I have seen mentioned in reviews here is that Murray's is overpriced. It definitely is expensive. Our dinner of two steak entrees, two glasses of wine, a glass of beer, no appetizers or dessert came to $92, before tip. It is not a daring or innovative restaurant and I could see that some would call it overpriced for what you get. I believe it is in the same price range as other more modern or trendy premier steakhouses such as Morton's or Manny's.

My dad wanted to bring me to Murray's because as he says, 'anyone who lives in MN should try it once.' When we got there, the old charm brings you back right away. We were promptly greeted by our server who asked if we needed a few moments. Once we were set, we ordered; I had the filet of beef which I requested Bearnaise sauce, a baked potato and a caesar (per the previous reviews I had to try). My dad ordered the same but with the NY strip. The caesar was the best ever and the steak- one of the bests I have ever had. For dessert, we ordered coffee and the chocolate souffle which takes 11-15 minutes to make from scratch and worth the wait. Everything was wonderful and the price really not as bad once you also add in the restaurant it's self and what other restaurants change that don't have half the charm. I do have to say, our server Shane was also wonderful- the way service should be!

This is a formal steakhouse. Their signature Silver Butter Knife Steak is delectable! It serves two. All the steaks here are great. One of my favorite things they serve is not even a steak. It's their garlic toast. Every time I go downtown I buy a box or two to go. It's only $6 for a box of 24.

I was starving for a good steak and looked through the Minneapolis-St.Paul magazine in my hotel room searching for a place to eat. Just around the corner from my hotel lies an unassuming exterior. Dressed in shorts and a t-shirt, I entered Murray's and was greeted by a friendly hostess in a dress and matre'd in a business suit. Even though I was dressed very casually, I was treated as if I was properly dressed. My waitress was extremely friendly and provided excellent service. I ordered the Caesar salad, New York strip steak and a baked potato. The lettuce in my Caesar was crispy and the dressing was extremely tasty. It was one of the best Caesar's I've ever had. Next came my steak. I kid you not, it was sinfully delicious. Seasoned and grilled to absolute perfection. The baked potato was standard - nothing special but I didn't expect anything more. The only disappointing thing for me was that I couldn't take home 1/2 the steak that I couldn't finish!

We have been going to Murray's for family celebrations for years, and they have never disappointed. The staff has always been nothing but kind, even when our then 10 year old tipped over his ice water onto the very thick tablecloth during my parents' 40th anniversary dinner. The garlic toast is to die for, and the filet mignon is incredible. If someone can top their steaks on their home grill, I would like to live in their neighborhood, and be invited to their parties!

My husband loves this place. The service is almost the best. This is a traditional setting that is very formal perfect for business celebrations. I just wish it offered more vegetable choices and smaller cuts of meats for petite female guests.

PROS: Good for serious meat eaters

Murray's is a very underrated steak house in downtown Minneapolis. I visited there earlier this year and had a wonderful steak dinner. Ordered a Filet Mignon which was served a la carte with plenty of delicious side items to choose from. Additionally, Murray's has the best martini offering I think I've ever had at a fine dining establishment. The decor was just right and set the mood for a pleasant evening. Whether with family, friends or on a date, I highly recommend Murray's.

If time and money are no object then Murrays Resteraunt and Cocktail lounge is definately the place for you. Looking as if it could be the set out of Breakfest at Tiffany's Murrays is a blast from the past. The silver butter knife steak is simply on of the finest and most enjoyable pieces of meat you can put in your mouth. The prices are a bit spendy but if you have it to spend this resteraunt is definately worth it.

I still recall the exquisite silver butterknife steak grilled rare to perfection and the most hospitable and prompt staff. Also the elegant setting and decor. I have eaten steaks all over the country, Florida to California, Washington State to Arizona in every conceivable place and price range and Murray's is in the top two. Now the top one as the original Chris n' Pitts in North Hollywood, CA is no longer in business as of two years ago. Murray's is the best.

This restaurant had the most amazing lobster bisque ever! You HAVE to try it! It is know for it's wonderful steak and the steak is wonderful but WOW. The bisque just melts in your mouth! I loved the piano and violin players. The place was beautiful with all those mirrors and chandeliers. The only thing I would change is make it bigger so that you can have more private dining. It's a little crowded. But my husband and I will definately go back. The service was wonderful. Our waiter even gave us a little history lesson on the restaurant.

I've been eating at Murry's since my Dad brought me there in the early 50's. I've always been treated like a "special guest", even when they don't know who my Dad was. If you haven't had a burger for lunch at Murray's, you don't know what you are missing. The 1/2 pound ground sirloin -almost wonder if they grind it on site - is pattied very thick (almost like a meatball) and seared with a slightly salty crust preserving every ounce of juice. Served on an onion bun, there is no need for adding cheese or any condiments, it's pure joy. You cannot miss this one!

The silver butterknife steak was good, but not breathtaking, and definitely not worth the money. I've made better steaks on the grill. I am always willing to pay good money for good food, but I really didn't think it was worth it. The salad might as well of come from mcdonalds, there was nothing special about the potatoes, and the martinis weren't special either. Overall I was pretty disappointed with our meal and I don't plan on going back.

Going out to dinner should be more then excellent food, it's an entire experience. Murray's atmosphere is created by years and years of experience. The food is excellent, but being waited on by the same person who waited on me at my first communion diiner is worth coming back over and over!!! Ruth's Chris, Mortons and the like will never have this kind of atmosphere or charm.

Honestly. I've eaten at Murray's twice, and both times the experience was nothing short of sublime. The ambience takes you back to the forties (or shows you the forties if you're not that old), and the wait staff has been great -- maybe because I've come in a decent-sized group both times. The mashed potatoes and desserts are darn good, but who are we fooling? This is all about the steak (funny how many negative reviews didn't eat the steak at this STEAK HOUSE). Every bite, I felt like Meg Ryan at the restaurant in When Harry Met Sally. I've been to Manny's, and it's no competition in my opinion. I'm not pulling in 6 figures so I can't eat at Murray's often, but it's a very special treat whenever the occasion comes up, and I won't miss it.

Probably one of the finest restaurants in the USA! I have yet to meet it's equal in my travels. It has provided continuous fine dining for many years. The Silver Butterknife Steak is truly a dining experience.

I vote this place best steakhouse in Minnesota. If you order it up Pittsburgh Blue, they don't even batt an eyelash. Pittsburgh Blue is a steak cooked very rare, but burned on the outside to a steely blue. MMMM!

I have eaten in many steakhouses from New York to LA and Murray's simply had the best steak I have ever eaten anywhere. Their Dinner Steak is incomperable.

Measure a steak house by its steak and you can't go wrong. Mix too much other stuff in there and that is is the only way anyone could rank Murray's lower than No. 1.

My wife and I tried a bunch of side dishes at the bar (she was abstaining for Lent). The beer selection is poor (no surprise), the side dishes were small and under-flavored by even steakhouse standards. The "vegetable medley" looked like it was Birdseye from the freezer. The fries were nothing special. Of course, the real story here are the steaks and since I did not have one, I cannot comment. But one wonders if the steaks could be that much better since these vegetables and fries were so poorly conceived. One good thing: the bar offers the best potato chips I have ever tasted as barsnacks.

Murray's is the quintessential Minneapolis Steakhouse. In fact, on our visit the 2nd and 3rd generation owners were both buzzing around the dining room to the serenade of the piano and violin. The silver butterknife steak for three was excellent, one of the best steaks we've ever had. The sides were only OK (but that's not what you come for). The raspberry pie was impressive. The berries had incrdible in-season flavor (how, I don't know, we dined in January . . . they must have a great supplier). Wine list is up to date and appropriate to pair with the food. We had the '99 Chateau St. Jean Cab which worked very well.

Great food, better service, unique, original, unmatched ambience. Beats going to one of the chain houses anyday.

The restaurant is from out of the past which a lot of people still enjoy. The waitresses are older and show it the way they treat the public. They don't bounce up and say "Hi guys" to people who are old enought to be at best there fathers and in some cases there grandfathers. It is called respect. These servers work to get the best shifts. The service shows it. The value is good. It is a special event type of place. Ive been going there for 7 decades and still think it's great.

I've enjoyed Murray's steaks for 13 years now. The ambience is classic to nearly musty but unusually consistent as is the food. The staff is attentive and can still quickly move around even without the aid of a Lil' Rascal scooter. I prefer the locker-aged New York strips over the filet mignon's and the evening sommelier has typically been square on the beans with qualified recommendations. My only unanswered question remains... does the musical ensemble remember meeting the original composers of their well-played classical pieces?

Pros: Tasty steaks, Consistent quality, Intuitive sommelier

Cons: Same dust from '41, Mummified staff, Long wait to seat

there's really only two reasons to go to Murray's, aside from Murray, I suppose. The silver butter knife steak special. Fork tender is the word here. Served by people who must have been standing there when Murray decided to build a restaurant around them. Experience bith - they're worth it.

With the silver butter knife steak you can not miss. I loved being taken back to a romantic era. My now husband and I enjoyed a romantic evening and split the silver butter knife steak. The best steak I have ever had. I grew up in the twin cities and now live in New Orleans and there is no comparison. If you do not want steak, you do not have reason to be here.

Murray's has been an excellent dining establishment for years and years. I've never heard of anyone being disappointed when dining there. Sometime the wait can be excruciating in the evening - but you're always treated with class.
The garlic bread is like none other. I recall when Mrs. Murray would watch over the restaurant and the garlic bread with great pride and aplomb.

After traveling the world, I still can not find a steak that holds a flame to the dry aged perfection that Murray's serves. I have been to Murray's on several occasions and can't fathom that people can rate the food a zero! Preparing a dry aged steak is an art and Murray's has created a masterpiece. The last time I was there the British Broadcasting Company was there because Murray's was on the 'Top Ten Steak Restaurants in the United States". The staff may need a reminder that smiles can get you a bigger tip but, for the steak I would walk through hot coals. From the other reviews it seems hit or miss, but the food has always been on for me! The people who believe the ambience is outdated, missed the point, it allows you to relax and even makes a workaholic consider coming for tea time.
