The MIA houses a world-class permanent collection, and also features impressive traveling exhibitions--most recently a show on Georgia O'Keeffe. Admittance is free, although visitors are welcome to make a donation. The Art Speaks audio tours are $4 ($3 for seniors, students, and kids) Tuesday through Saturday, and free on Sunday.
It would be harder to find a better value for your money, whether you visit for a romantic date, an educational outing with the kids, or just a chance to relax and feel inspired about the world.

I have enjoyed visiting the Institute since I was in grade school. They have such a wide variety of works of art, you can really experience every single genre. In a city where a lot of museums only house modern pieces (Walker, Weisman), the Mpls Institute of Arts is a breath of fresh air for me, and I love it. They have quality historical pieces, while at the same time some of the modern throughout.
The staff are very friendly, both in the galleries and in the museum shop. An added bonus, the parking ramp next door is free! I will continue going to the Institute for the rest of my life.

This museum is the best in the midwest. I love the period themed rooms best, as they really give you a sense of what it would be like to have lived in a different time or place. I usually get tired before I can see everything in their large building, so that gives me plenty of excuses to come back another time and see what else I haven't seen yet.
PROS: Beautiful, authentic art
CONS: None

This is a must see for everyone in the area. The art is amazing, and the exhibits change quite often. I am always glad I went. It can be a fun way to spend a rainy day. The China artwork is fabulous! The only problem is that sometimes security follows you a little too closely.

Great Museum. They even have free days. The museum has different displays at different times. It also a very educational place. Great for parents to take older children to.
5I have always enjoyed visiting the Mpls Institute of Arts (MIA). They have some rotating exhibits and some permanent ones. I appreciate the fact that they have historical and artistic artifacts as well as paintings and sculptures. I have visited this museum with groups of children and have found it engaging for elementary age children and older
