We went to celerbrate my huband's birthday. Was a very upscale! We had clam chowder, scallops for an app which was totally amazing! I ordered the stuffed salmon (it has blue crab, shrimp and brie) for the entree which was perfectly cooked! We also enjoyed oreo cheesecake for dessert! The service was awesome and everyone was very frendly. This is our new favorite place to go out to eat. But i'd highly recomend you leave the little ones at home! It was so nice to go out to eat with out having other people's kids ruin the dinner! I'm still thinking about the meal and can't wait to go back!!!

Aside from being completely ignored, served cold coffee and Ahi Tuna that resembled cheap lunch meat from package, the ambient temperature was nice. I'm serious; I really could not believe how bad the service was. I was physically biting my tongue since my wife and I were out to dinner with a dear friend and his new gal pal, I was really trying to hold it together to not ruin the evening, except for that was out of my control. I politely paid the bill, tipped begrudgingly and walked to the nearest hole in the wall where I was served like a king for nearly a tenth of the price.

No doubt the seafood is fresh but after the entire experience, Mccormick & Schmick's leaves much to be desired. I mistakenly ordered Ahi Tuna which I thought was going to be more a tuna steak. Instead, it was slices of tuna over seasoned with black pepper which spoiled the flavor. We also ordered king crab which was very good; obviously very fresh. Service was okay; the staff are very nice but the food came out at a crawling pace. If I spend 2 hours for dinner, I expect a 5 course meal at an even pace rather than a slow 3 course meal.

On a positive note, I truly enjoyed the crab cakes. They are fabulous. The tartar sauce and coleslaw perfectly complimented the crab cakes. I wouldn't mind going back to order the crab cake alone

This place has the BEST happy hour for food in town. If I remember correctly, drinks are spendy but one can get a 1/2 lb pepperjack burger with fries for around $1.50. All of the choices are fantastic and don't get above a couple dollars. It's busy and fairly difficult to find a table in the bar area.

Food was decent the broiled salmon, but the asian cocktail server was just rude and hideous. She had the most annoying voice, bad attitude, and bad hygiene. I don't believe they would let such a wreck be on the floor and serving food. Sadly I lost my appetite before I could order.

With a great menu selection of fresh fish at a premium price, we were disappointed that the service, quality and presentation did not meet our expectations. We dined on shrimp appetizers that were overcooded, fresh fish entreees that were overcooked, overbuttered and underwhelming. The server was nice and attentive. Maybe it was just a bad night. The ambiance is very nice and is very comfortable.

i got the shrimp and scallop pasta fettucini - it was delicious! there was a great flavor of pepper and parmesean in the fettucini, its definitly not your mediocre sauce. nicely presented, decent portion (i left stuffed) and service was friendly and fast.

Had reservations for 6 last night (Tuesday). We were seated promptly in a cozy, private alcove. When my mom made reservations, she told them it was my father's birthday, so they specially printed the menus for our table with a happy birthday message on them. The service was awesome from start to finish, by both the server and an assistant. As an example, my brother dropped his napkin on the floor twice, and both times the assistant stopped by and picked it up and replaced it with a fresh napkin. We ordered 3 courses (salad/soup, main course and dessert) and all were served with reasonable timing, and all hot. No complaints about any of the food. I started with a delicious beet and goat cheese salad. The salmon are running, so that was featured widely on their specials. I had a salmon saute with mushrooms and asparagus in a garlic cream sauce. It was EXCELLENT. And a chocolate pudding pie for dessert, which was dense and chocolately. I view this as a fairly high priced restaurant, so we usually only eat there on special occasions (at least once a year on my dad's birthday as he is a seafood fanatic), and we have never been dissapointed.

Cons: tables by the kitchen are a little loud

We had a reservation on saturday night. Many people were waiting for tables and there was nowhere to sit at the bar to wait in comfort. After over an hour, we finally got a table. The service was very slow. It was a very long, drawn out meal because of the slow service. We were constantly waiting forever for our waiter to get back to our table. I thought the fish was great, but I don't think I'll go back to try it again. I spoke with the management about it, and they apologized but did not make it up to me in any way. I asked if it was this busy every saturday and they said it was. Well, if they're so busy that they make people wait 1 hour for a table every weekend, maybe they shouldn't take so many reservations.

We loved it...........went out for a evening together and had a great time. Service and food was outstanding and would recommend it to everyone. While we where there we saw the $1.95 happy hour appetizers that looked more like dinner than apps. There was a private group happening in a seperate room and we enjoyed our own time at our table with out being disturbed. The server was awsome and the new drink menu was outstanding. We saved some room for the dessert and were not disppointed...I was told they have their own baker making the desserts daily...what a rarity in today's world!
Fresh seafood, from scratch cocktails, and great service......how can you go wrong!

Four of us went for a Christmas season dinner to enjoy some conversation and good seafood. This was our third visit to M & S, and we were quite happy with almost everything. The best thing on the table was the beet salad - a phenomenal salad, closely followed by a awesome bowl of clam chowder, and the scallop/risotto appetizer. Entrees we shared were the 1 1/4 # lobster - cooked just right, and the lobster/filet combo plate - both were just right, the filet melted in yor mouth. The stuffed salmon selection was simply wonderful. The least satisfying entre was the proscuitto-wrapped scallop dish. The sauce was nice and spicy as advertized, but the prosciutto and sauce were too salty and overpowered the flavor of the scallops - bummer.
Our waiter was great, he recommended a nice bottle of wine, and the desserts were good but not exceptional. We'll be back, and can recommend M&S to friends and other diners looking for good seafood downtown Minneapolis.
Did I mention the $2 appetizers on the happy hour menu - and not your regular bar food snacks, either!

The clam chowder here is absolute heaven! Actually, this whole place is amazing, I kept coming back over and over the week I was in town, and this place did not let me down. The blue cheese crusted halibut was amazing! Please eat here, it is soooo worth it.

Very large selection of fresh seafood. Nice atmosphere, relaxed at the bar while we waited a short while for our table. Service was excellent, very courteous and attentive. Had a stuffed sole which was good, ended up taking some home because of the amount of food. Parked in the ramp around the corner. Not cheap but felt that for what you get it really isn't much more than what you could pay at a chain restaurant either.

Took the family here on a Saturday night. They gave us one of their semi-private booths; would have been great for business, but not so good for a family outing. Food was generally very good; two non-seafood lovers actually loved their seafood orders. Service was slow; it felt like our waiter had too many tables -- or just kept forgetting us. Still, all in all, this is a nice choice for dinner in downtown Mpls -- we'd return (and have!).

I had never been to McCormick's before, but decided to go for my birthday. They easily accomidated all 14 of us, and even had menus printed that said "Happy Birthday" on them. Hands down, it was one of the best meals of my life. We had goat cheese bruschetta, clam chowder, crab cakes, salmon stuffed with brie and crab, sea scallops, tiger shrimp pasta...everyone LOVED their meal. Service was very prompt, knowledgable and courteous. They have everything from a good wine selection to great mojitos and cheap beer. For what you get, it's also very affordable, it can be as expensive as you make it. Highly recommended all-around!

The food is mediocre - bottom line. For seafood?- Oceanairre. (even though I don't like chains) I'm here to vent about the manager. I've been here before but stopped by, because it was close, on July 4th when no other place was open to celebrate my birthday. Long story short. I ordered a glass of wine....oops, I forgot my I.D. I'm 33, I look young. I was with my parents they tried to vouch for me. I knew it wouldn't happen but they tried. The manager came out and said he looks young and is 33 as well. "Sorry we can't help you, enjoy your meal. Happy Birthday!" He quickly turned around and walked away. Not only was he flip, he was also in a hurry on a very slow day. To be short and snippy with me is fine, but to treat my parents that way was another story. We left, paid the tab and tipped the waiter and went home and grilled some steaks. The experience was sour. I'm never going back, not even for a drink or a "power lunch". A tip for the manager - Treat people with respect. You are in the service industry, right? I dine out frequently, this place is last on my list.

For my birthday, my friends and I decided to try something different. We gathered a list of restaurants downtown, put them in a hat, and I chose which one we would be going to. I am so glad I chose this restaurant! The reviews weren't great but we had "excellent" service from "Kara" and our food was amazing! The prices were high but well worth it due to the excellent service and amazing food. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.

I have usually enjoyed dining downtown Minneapolis. When you are in a great city, you expect great food and great service. Not going to find either at this place.
The hosts were very nice, welcoming and we thought it was going to be a great dinner. We had enjoyed the bar area too. Once we sat down (in a pretty cool space-table with a curtain) it took over 10 minutes to get greeted by a server, even though the host said they would be there shortly. The drinks took too long and appetizer was cold. It was just too much work to get a good meal. The fish was nothing to write home about. We left before dessert was ordered.

Ive been here for happy hour, which has great food deals but all drinks are still full price. I went to dinner here recently on a Friday night at 8:00ish. Did not need reservation, and was seated right away. I wasnt too impressed with the whole experience. Maybe I just ordered the wrong things. The bread was cold. The fish I ordered, the almond crusted whitefish, wasn't very good. Apple pie for dessert was nothing special. This resturaunt does have a nice design and decor, and the fish selection is wide. Service was acceptable.

I order the $14 crab cake ap. I got a deep fried brick, quickly returned to to the waiter. It was something I would expect from Burger King. Go to Oceanaire as they do not deep fry their food, Mccormicks is a joke and is worse than White Castle and cost a lot more.

Everything was great except for the service. The sevrvice was a little lagging, but I did talk to a manager and they did make up for what had been wwronged. What the other people that complained on this site have forgot is there spine to say somthing. If you do the management will usually do something to make your experince more pleasureable and to make sure you return. I know I will.

It is for sure one of the best places to get fresh seafood in town. Every meal weve had there was excellent and exceptionally fresh. Selection of oysters is simply awesome. We managed to try 5 different kinds and they were all good, but pretty small. However, the service is pretty mediocre, not really rude, but rather disorganized. I think, they need to hire more wait-staff, so customers could get more personal attention. Prices are Ok too.

We dined with 4 other - a total of six at our table. We were seated promptly by the hostess and she did a wonderful job of introducing us to the establishment and letting us know our waitress would be there soon. If you call 9 minutes soon I guess she was right. Our waitress asked us for our drink order. As my brother was asking for her opinion on some Scotch she suddenly had to leave us and go to another table - so after nine plus minutes there we are still waiting just to put in the drink order. When the waitress finally returned we received no apology and she had forgotten everyones order. When she finally brought the drinks she spilled half of my sisters drink down her arm again no apology. It gets much worse but I only get 150 words here.

I went for lunch last Wednesday at 2:30. Granted, it was not the "normal" lunch hour, but still. I ordered oyster stew. The milk had been boiled and had a skim on the top. The butter & milk had separated. It was as though the chef forgot about what was on the stove and threw in the oysters (not cooked through) at the last minute. Sent it back. Got a clam chowder thick enough to stand a spoon and tasteless. Good Ceasar salad, though. Good, cheap cheeseburger at Happy Hour.

What a wonderful place to have handshaken cocktails and the freshest seafood in town! From the moment we were greeted by the charming maitre'de, were told that the full menu was available in the bar and had a booth facing Nicollet Mall we were hooked! Our cocktail waitress had a wealth of knowledge of the enormous menu and was as professional as we would expect from the table clothed dining room. It was a joy to watch the bartenders squeeze fruit for our drinks with pride even amidst a sea of customers at their bar. Wonderful food, excellent service, despite the Cities 97 music in the bar and patio.

I was pleasantly surprised with the food. Our meals were all wonderful; however, I will agree with other reviewers in that the mashed potatoes and vegetables on every plate weren't overly creative. I would return for the food any day, but was extremely disappointed with our waitress, who was borderline rude. It was the only negative aspect of an otherwise delightful meal.

Pros: good food, service, wine list

Cons: parking

These guys think seafood must come with a pile of mashed potatoes or rice. How disgusting! Lot of people wish to have seafood so they don't get stuffed with crap like mashed potato or rice. Why don't you leave that for big pot-bellied beef eaters who think quallity is same as quantity? It was a big dissappointment. These guys' desserts are a big dissapointment also - pretty mediocre. No chocalate dipped strawberries. I provide better strawberries for the champagne on Sunadys at my own home than what I got at this place.

Everytime we've gone to McCormick and Schmick's, the service and food were excellent. No problem with getting service at happy hour either. The selection of drinks and food is awesome. My favorites are the Oysters and anything with scallops.

Pros: Great Service, Great food, Romantic

From the moment we walked through the door until we walked out, this was a flawless experience. The desk staff was friendly, the server was attentive and knowledgeable, the wine list had good variety, and I can't say enough about the food. We had 4 drinks between the two of us, an appetizer, and two entrees for $60-- at such a nice place downtown we were pleasantly surprised at the value. We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly, and are already making plans to go back!

Having never been here before, but having heard positive reviews, I was excited to try this spot since I love seafood. I came here on a Thursday evening with a date, and although it was crowded and we didn't have reservations, we were seated promptly. That's where the impressive part ended. Our server was polite was slow, and the food was fine--just fine. The oysters were definitely on the small side, and the paella was soupy and way too tomatoey. My salad was pathetic! And my entree, a salmon special, was tiny! And bland! And overcooked! Oh well, we had a nice conversation anyway.

It's not nice to talk with your mouth full. And your mouth will definately be full with pleasures from the sea at this great bar/restaurant. Love the happy hour, too.

We stopped in for a nice meal in DT MPLS and ended up paying way too much for food that was similar to that of Applebee's. I guess that part is my fault....but having the server glean info from my check and then begin spewing my personal info aloud in front of everyone in the restaurant was way out of line. I guess he thought his stupid "cool guy" attitude in the restaurant had brought us closer together. I ain't going back and I am telling everyone to stay away.

A killer happy hour offers very cheap eats of mainly seafood but also includes a large cheeseburger with fries plate that is hard to beat. The place gets packed for happy hour so make sure you get there early to save a table in the bar area of outside patio.

Also enjoyed the crab cakes and the fresh broiled fish. Pricing is more reasonable than some of the other seafood spots in town.

The happy hour food specials are good, however there are NO drink specials and they lied about having one!! The bar area is small for a lot of people but the restaurant decor is nice and so is the patio. The bar was very crowded so it tool forever to get a drink and the check.

Nice atmosphere, very expensive decor. Food is great but the price is outragious. Service was excellent. Drinks in the bar were expensive, $5 or more per drink plus tip. Not a place to get drunk at.

Was a little scared to eat there after the reviews posted here. But aside from a relatively slow pace, the food was outstanding and I will definitely be back. Was way too full for dessert but they looked fabulous. Try the mahi-mahi in hot jamaican rum butter. You won't be sorry!

recently, we had friends come to town unexpectedly. we couldn't get into our usual seafood restaurant and opted for mccormick and schmicks. a great disappointment overall. my wifes swordfish was overcooked and bland at best...we also felt a bit of a bums rush by the server as well. they obviously needed the table back rather quickly as we were there for a total of 1 1/2 hours and the check was presented along with our dessert.

The good food and ambiance are ruined by the rude staff and dreadfully slow service. There's no valet service and finding a place to park is a hassle.
