I always went to the gay 90's since I was 18. I'm now 23 and honestly this club use to be a fun place but the security is very rude. I like the drinks and sometime the music. The drag dancers are getting to be very lame they do the same

For those of us who go out only on special occasions, the 90s is always a good time. The music is good, the people are there to have a good time, and there's definitely plenty to do and see in one night (especially Sundays). Even more,

I've always had a good time at the Gay 90's! They have several floors to get your dance and drink on - but you have to go for the drag show!

I have NEVER been talked to the way the "scrutiny" guards talkeed to me when I was outside having a smoke, they were rude and demeaning to me, cuz I'm a female? They todtallly left my husband alone, cuz he's a male?I have no problem with GBLT's, my kid is one. I loved the performers and the servers, but it seems to be the the outside scrutiny guards had a chip on their shoulder

I've always had a blast here! Whether it's ladies night out or just a Saturday night, it's always entertaining. The drinks are strong, the music is bumpin' and the drag shows are a blast!

The showlounge has always been the entertaining part of the bar. However with all the new rules and really expensive cover fees iam afraid us long time patrons will not be returning. the new owners promised not to make alot of changes, however this is untrue. many many staff changes were made some good some bad. Over all the new owners lost allot of faith from the community because of this. The show lounge carries itself. Maybe they should consider charging for just the showlounge. My normal evenings out are Sundays, and Mondays. The bar was quite festive on Sundays, but lost it's luster after the new take over. I really trully enjoyed Monday nights because of the 2-4-1 drinks and the increadible dinner deals, and staying to listen to the great singers, during karaoke. Well they made a big mistake, making changes to that night, they have some new hosts, i think, and they play this obnoxious music between singers, it gets annoying, and alot of people just come in to sing, and like y friends and I we dont sing but since these changes, the good singers have faded away, all it is is a bunch of screaming silly drunks, with no talent, and a host that sings way too much. If someone finds out where these great singers went let me know. i wanna go there on mondays. Well as far as dancers, if thats what you call them, i have seen better performaces by cheerleaders at football games, in fact some of the dancers, look like they could pull off heals and a skirt quite nicely. Tisk Tisk, new owners, promises are made to be broken, but you shatterred alot of dreams. Im feeling a parking ramp would be more profitable in this space now.... Nice going...

Well I used to go to the 90's like every weekend. But now the club is just horrible. This used to be a place where I could go and just be myself and the drinks were sooooooooooooo bomb!!!!!! Now since the new owners have came everything has changed for the worst. I'm a stud and we all of a sudden have dress code. It get annoying to be at a club and your getting your kick it on and you got bouncers coming up to you tellin you to tuck your shirts in. This used to be a club were you could express yourself through your clothes and just be chill and relaxed. Then the music is horrible, they used to play all of the new up to date music. Now they might play some up to date music, but mainly they play music that is really old. Drinks prices have went up so much. This used to be a great place for me and my friends to meet and hang out. Now really know one that I know really goes into this club anymore. I mean for me to be 25 years old I've been coming there for years. And so have a lot of people I know. Now we have taken our business some place else. Maybe you shoul re hire the old owner back. Don't think it was a smart idea to have a straight owner try an run a gay club.

For starters, as mentioned in previous reviews, if you are looking for a good strong and more importantly decently priced drink then The Gay 90s is definitely the place to be. If you like good conversation, an overall friendly atmosphere and a sort of "Cheers-like? feel of camaraderie, then you found it. However, that is where all the praise stops. It has been made public to most that The Gay 90s is now under new management and that the establishment would still welcome GLBT and straight crowds, familiar drinks would still be offered, dinner and entertainment would remain the best there ever was and familiar faces amongst the staff would also go unchanged. With that said, however, many changes have been made ranging from necessary to simply unnecessary. Firstly, drink prices have gone up which is deemed granted. Unnecessarily so, in contrast, new paper towel dispensers and new waste baskets have been added to every restroom in sight. Particularly, these new plush accessories were not free or really even necessary since they waste a lot more paper than save, do not work on a consistent basis and at the end of the day they come with the hefty price of increased drink prices to cover their usage. Furthermore, a new "strictly enforced" dress code has come into effect leaving many bewildered and rather baffled. Meaning, no baggy clothes whatsoever, no untucked shirts, no head scarves, du rags or anything remotely suggesting a hip hop/urban dress. Seems pretty exclusive to particular ethnic groups and individuals doesn't it? It appears that the Gay 90s no longer welcomes everyone as it had originally intended as well as suggested to most. It may look like the same building from the outside, but trust me it no longer has its same friendly familiar appeal. In other words, prepare to see favorite bartenders fired and replaced with new inexperienced ones, soaring drink prices, removal of club card privileges, mandatory cover charges for all, and much much more.

Pros: Great Happy Hour and Friendly Staff. Good Variety of Drinks, Menu Options and Entertainment

Cons: Ridiculous and Rather Offensive Exclusive Dress Code; Does Not Fully Cater To the Crowds That It Supposedly Used to Cater To--Is No Longer A Place For "Everyone"

.

As a former afternoon drunk I can attest that the 'Happy Hour' has the strongest drinks on the planet and cheap, too. An alcoholics mecca, indeed! Whether you haven't visited the 'Happy Hour" in a day or a decade walking in is like walking into an Edward Hopper painting. Same folks, sitting in the same place, drinking the same drink. playing the same game, telling the same stories. Boring, but strangely comforting.

Pros: Fabulous pork chops!

Cons: They ran out of pork chops!

.

So happy to see more Bi curious/lesbian women here now who are actually hott and not butch. The gay men are awesome and so so nice to the women. It's great that you can be yourself and the drinks are nice and stiff! The only downfall is that I wish they would keep it a bit cleaner that would be a huge plus! But everytime I go back the crowd gets better!

This place looks good and every time I go I feel like I should be having fun. But I don't. It tends to get filled with too many people attempting to be hip by going to a place called The Gay 90's. I'm not entirely sure what that means...but it gives me bad vibes. I mean, yeah, straight people should be totally accepting of gay people- but why does that "acceptance" always result in being really loud and annoying?

Well its a landmark, I MISS the EmCee Morgan Taylor( red head, bib chest) as the new one or old one stinks/boring. But if she was back or made special guest spots it would be much better, also they need to updte bathrooms. But, besides that its a fun spot with strong drinks

So many of my gay friends absolutely hate the 90's. I've never understood that. I have been going their since I was 18 (now 25), and I have never had a bad experience. Yes, it is geared a bit towards the straighties...but so what. The drinks are STRONG, I've found plenty of gay guys to hook up with over the years.........:), and the drag show is one of the best anywhere. I asbolutely adore this place, and I don't care if it's considered "uncool" to be gay and like it.

Pros: Drag, Drinks, Dancing

Cons: Straight people

I'm straight as an arrow and the 90's is one of my favorite bars, as well as the Saloon. I only go when they're playing dance music, but on those nights I think it's great. It's the perfect middle spot between a boring bar and a overly-loud, obnoxious club. I don't mind getting flirted with occasionally. I enjoy people, whatever their orientation. If someone got too forward I'd politely inform them that I was straight, but it's usually not an issue. I'm not going to hook-up, I'm going to get drunk, enjoy the company of new people, and dance my a** off.

For all the money this place brings in, they don't put one cent back into it. The rumor around town has been that the city will be condemning this block in the near future. It can't come too soon.

This place is so much fun! They have several different rooms with a variety of music. One room is more for dancing and then you enter another room where they have a bar and men dancing in small little speedos on the top of the bar (more music playing) You can go upstairs and often times they have transvestites on the stage doing celebrity impersonations! Too much fun! You can easily spend a few hours enjoying yourself with cocktails while sitting at the small tables while watching the show! No nudity, so there is no need to worry, Lots of fun loving people!

The 90's does tend to be over-crowded with Str8 people, but the drag queens ROCK @ making fun of them, so it is all good. It is not the best place to go if you are "looking" for love, but if you are going just to hang up & have fun this is the place to be. My partner & I go there every chance we get & the 90's drag queens are the hottest in the upper mid-west. And remember one 90's drink equals three any where else.

Selecting the Gay 90's as the best Gay Bar shows how much you DO NOT KNOW about gay bars in the Twin Cities. This selection is just wrong... The Gay 90's is now geared for straight people... who like to watch transvestites and drag queens. Please, this selection is ridiculous!

the last time i went to the 90'S i just felt like i was cattle. Too many pretentious jerk's that think they are better than you, but they dont even have enough to buy ther own drink! And the lay out was bad I tried to watch the show in the le femme lounge and i could not even see the performers
(I even had a "good" seat)

The title "Gay 90's" gives false pretense to what it actually is. More straight people frequent here than gay. The drag shows are good but drinks are too strong. I appreciate the generosity, but I'll ask for a shot if I want one. As usual, this "gay" bar focuses on gay men by having male dancers on the bar top quite often. The techno music on the bottom level is pretty good most of the time. Don't appear drunk though. My friend was thrown out in sub-zero temp. for "acting drunk" after having two drinks and we had to leave early.

The 90's used to be the best club in town. However, the overzealous bouncers and staff will now toss you out for even the smallest supposed infraction. So if you go, remember to pretend like you are miserable and never have more than one drink if you want to stay.

The Gay 90's on a Sunday night is predominately gay boys (of the 18-20 set) and their "hags". During the rest of the week, it is predominately a straight bar. Not gay friendly? That's crap! Straight people going to the club realize it's called the GAY 90's and are generally accepting of that. You want a full on gay bar? Try the Saloon on Thursday nights.

Great place to see drag, best shows in town. Have had mixed experiences there. Needs to clean up a bit. Somtimes it is more of a straight bar. If there was a more diverse gay/lesbian crowd the atmosphere might be better. There is a lot of empty areas and space. Always watch your drink, security should be beefed up a tad bit.

I have been going to the Gay 90's for about three years and have an awesome time everytime. I always go to watch the drag shows. Although this means arriving extra early in order to get a seat. It can get super crowded in the La Femme lounge. I do think they need to think about more seating. The bathrooms definately need repair. I have eaten there too and the food had been great. The techno music in the dance room can get annoying. The 90's has a great blend of gay and straight people. I do believe it is mostly gay though. It's is fun for all.

I had a great time at the Gay 90's. Some people thought that is wasn't Gay enough, but I felt that any person could have a great time regardless of their individual differences. It was perfect for anyone who wants to have a good time like no other. Definitley check out the Drag Show.

This bar hasn't been Gay (capital "G") since 1993. Went back for the first time in years and it was worse than expected. Staff (security and bartenders) are rude. Drag show is good (for a city the size of Rochester). And the crowd looked as "gay" as the Metrodome on a Sunday.

What is that smell in there????????

I use to love the Gay 90's until I got grabbed twice in the chest. Ok..I thought this place was GAY??? Anywayz, the dancing here use to ROCK..and then it kind of went down hill. What's up with the music??? The R&B room is good except the dance floor is to small. I LOVE the drag queens...they're the BEST. The techno side is REALLY lame...get a NEW DJ!!! The place is cool and LARGE...but it needs to get packed again...
