Jan's Boutique

We found the perfect dress from the Mori Lee Sticks and Stones line but Jan's only had the pink on hand. Judy said it also came in mint, and she showed us another Sticks and Stones dress in the mint so that we could see firsthand what that color would be. It was the perfect blend of blue/green that we were looking for! The dress she said, would ship at the end of May and be in your store the first week of June. This was cutting it VERY tight because we need to have it in our hands by the beginning of June. Judy assured us that this company never delivered passed the promised date, and if anything, it might come earlier. We placed the order and put our full faith in Judy, the date, and the color.

After we placed the order, I took a few pictures of one of the Sticks and Stones dresses in mint so that we had something to go on for shoes, accessories, etc. At first, I was stopped by one of the sales girls who started to explain about no picture taking, but Judy quickly let her know that I had already placed an order and that I was just taking the picture to have the color since we wouldn't have the dress until June - another acknowledgment by your store that I would be getting the dress I needed, in the color that I saw in the store.

After we got home, we looked at the Mori Lee website. For almost every dress on that sight that was shown in "mint," the color was that very pretty blue/green (you can check it out for yourself online). The particular dress we purchased, however, looked more green than blue. At first we thought it might just be the lighting of that particular photo, but after further analysis, we realized we needed to see the actual dress in that color.

We called around and found a store that did have that particular style dress in mint. We went to the store, looked at the dress, and were surprised to see it was more yellow/green than blue. This shade of mint was very different than all the other "mint" dresses we saw at Jan's, even though the manufacturer was the same. There is NO WAY we would have ever purchased a dress in that color since we wanted something that was in the blue family. Less than 24 hours after we made the purchase at Jan's, we called to cancel the order and were told that we needed to call back on Monday.

On Monday, we called and spoke to Judy who informed us that all special orders are non-refundable. I wasn't even aware that this was a special order since I was told that the dress exists, but just not in your warehouse in Las Vegas yet. We wanted either a size 6 or 8 and were told only 1 dress was available and it was a size 6. It wasn't as if this dress had to be specially made for us.

Even though it was JAN's error by leading us to believe that this dress was the same shade as all the other "mint" dresses you had in your store, Judy refused to even try to help us out. She said that Jan's DID have that very dress in stock in that color, just not in the size we needed. If that were true, why didn't she tell us this when we specifically asked about the color of the dress in question? Instead, we were shown a DIFFERENT dress in mint and were assured that since it was the same manufacturer and brand line, the color would be the same. We felt very deceived and duped, and Judy is not even acknowledging her role in this error.

We finally found another dress from that same manufacturer and Jan "let" us make a swap. She said this dress would arrive on April 10th. On April 10th, we received a call stating that the dress will not be in for another 2 weeks. WHAT? What happened to her earlier claim that "this company never delivered passed the promised date, and if anything, it might come earlier?" We had been told that this manufacturer is NEVER late, and if anything is sometimes EARLY. THANK GOODNESS this was April and not June. What would have happened if we had kept the original order and THAT dress had been delayed? We would have had NOTHING!

Jan's has lovely dresses, but will say ANYTHING to make a sale (Yes, this is the color of the dress you will receive. No, we've never had anything come in later than promised). When Jan's DOES make a mistake, it takes NO OWNERSHIP of it.

By the way, I had e-mailed this review directly to Jan's as a heads up and I received NO response whatsoever. That further solidifies my conclusion that they really don't care.

If I could give more than five stars I would!!! I purchased a dress to wear at my son's recent wedding at Jan's. Jan's was the only place I went to as they do not disappoint. I have purchased other dresses from there as well. I received so many compliments on the dress for the wedding that I would never shop anywhere else. The staff there is so very accommodating and nice, I felt that I was among family. They made me feel special and were extremely attentive to my needs. Jan's is the place to go, I won't shop anywhere else...Thank you to Brenda, who did my alterations and gave me an exquisite fit. Thanks to Judy who assisted me and all the staff who were always so courteous and pleasant.

Jan's is the first, the last, and the only place that we shop for a great dress. I have bought dresses to be a guest at a wedding, bat/bat mitzvahs, formal balls, charity events, social events, graduations, etc. I bought gorgeous sparkly shoes and evening bags. I could not wait until my daughter was old enough to shop with me. It is like sparkle heaven. They have everything and no one can match the selection. Sometimes I wish I had an event to go to just to buy a dress. They also sell real spanx.

After I saw all of the gorgeous dresses here, I knew I didn't need to look anywhere else! they had so many choices in different colors and styles that everyone would like. the service was great and the staff was very helpful in finding my dress.

If anyone needs a special dress or outfit just start at Jan's. You will be very pleased from the moment you walk thru the door. Everyone was pleasant but most of all helpful. Jan and the rest of the wonderful ladies took me under their wing from picking the perfect dress to alterations and telling me what jewelry would look best. Love this place and thank you all for a wonderful experience.
I will be back.

Beware! Don't shop here. Terrible customer service. They ordered a dress for my mom telling her the size they would order would fit they would just have to hem it. All kinds of alternations needed to be done. She wanted to return it and offered to buy another dress even if it costs more, but there was no budging. Jan is rude and made my mom feel like she was crazy because she didn't like the dress. My mom tried talking nicely to her but all she did was talk meanly to her and berated her for not liking the dress. Jan said to my mom that she was crazy and that she has never seen this before. You work in customer service for how long and have never once had an unhappy customer? She tried calling her after her visit to discuss the situation with her nicely, she told her she had to go that she had a customer. My mom told her she would leave a bad review and Jan said "that's not fair" and hung up on her.

I visited Jan's Boutique on Saturday to look for a prom dress. I was amazed at the wide selection they had there and I found my dress within the first 25 minutes! I recommend going to Jan's before any other boutique in New Jersey.
