I have been going to this restaurant since it opened. Mostly had good experiences. At least once aweek for takeout. This week I made a mistake in that I took watermelon to go and realized a piece and a little other fruit was not worth $10. I requested for them to let me take something else instead and the manager refused. For some fruit that cost them maybe a dollar they just lost along time customer. No customer service and the food is not what it used to be. Not a good way to run a restaurant.

I'd rated this restaurant few years ago with four stars but it's getting over priced with dishes they serve. Trays were empty and foods are over cooked. On top of food, service need to be reconsidered over all. Very disappointed !!

i've heard good things about this restaurant, and last night my girlfriend and i went there to tried it out. first, they have a private parking lot for their customers which is nice. then, as soon as i walk in the restaurant bad things starting to happen. the hostess gave our seat away to another couple way down the list, we had to argue with her to get her back in order from her list to get our seat. after that i found out the waiters barely speak English or they can't speak. they just push people away without saying anything. after we grab our food one of the waitress was cleaning the table next to us, i don't know what kind of method she's using the left over food on the table she's cleaning flying all over the place and some landed on my plate........that was rough. as soon as i turn my head she's already gone. seems to me that they don't care about quality all they want is get things done quick. i can't denied the food is really good compare to a lot of Chinese restaurant in queens. finally, the bill, each person is $29.99 which is over priced for a place like this, and it has service charge for 14%? i didn't bother to ask them what it is. service charge and 14% very clear to me it's tips. i just leave whatever they wrote on the bill with no extra. my overall experience with this place is very poor. i drove all the way from Brooklyn to a below average restaurant, once is enough and never come again.

Cons: poor service and attitude, over priced.

They are a rip off! Beware. I have never in my life gone to a restaurant that charge a 2 YEAR OLD, I repeat, a 2 year old $25.00 for buffet. My son barely touched his plate. They are ridiculous and obviously greedy and PREJUDICE towards children. Not worth it, they will never see a dime from me again.

Go there hungary --- place is kept clean and dishes are constantly replaced with fresh food.Terrific salad bar as well. Expensive but worth the money for a buffet.

omg!! this restaurant is soo bad!! there is just so many things wrong with this place.

first of all, their service is f***ing horrible!!! their employees and their boss are soo nasty and mean!!! they look at u with disdain and a big glare like u did something wrong to them!! their waitresses are horrible!! i asked them for drinks like 6 times and they not only ignored me but told me to stfu!! i mean wth, rite?? and they f***ing yelled at me for taking a bubble tea!!! i mean wat is wrong with them!?? i am a customer and this is a buffet, so i should be able to eat watever i want, rite??

secondly, the price is ridiculously expensive!!! and on top of that they charge u an extra 15% service charge, and they expect u to tip!!! i mean wth man!!! if u tip, then y do u have to pay a f***ing service charge!! its not rite. they just try to scam u off!! dont tip them. just eat ur food, pay the bill, and gtfo. or better yet dont come here in da first place!! they dont deserve the tip!!! they dont even deserve to be a restaurant!! f***ing disgrace!!

lastly, their food is extremely unsanitary!! i eaten there many times, and i found all kinds of things in their food: hair, insects, dirt, mucous, etc etc. i could go on about how unclean their place is. their dishes look like they havent been washed with soap!!! havent even been washed with water. if a health inspector were to go over there, they would not be able to pass inspection!! heck, all health inspectors should come to this place!! come see wat they have done!!! i guarantee this place would be shut down in a heartbeat!!

i kno their employees are underpaid, but that doesnt give them the rite to be nasty at people!!! and the worst part is the employers!! they grab ur money and leave!! they dont care!! they should be sued for slave labor and unsanitary working conditions!!!

honestly, i wouldnt even rate this place 1/5 stars. i would rate it 0/5 stars or better yet, a negative rating! this place deserves the worst possible rating ever!!

guys, dont come to this place. its a ripoff. im not telling u this because just because i hate this place (which i do). im telling u for ur own good. u can get a perfectly decent, healthier, cheaper and bigger meal somewhere else. dont bother coming here. if u go to this place, and find out the hard way about how nasty their food is or how crappy their service is, dont say that i didnt warn u. i am warning u now. dont come to this place!! harvest buffet sucks!!!

I read a lot of restaurant reviews, but never felt compelled to write a review until tonight. I just got back from HB. I had to wait approx. 10 on a waiting list because it was so crowded. We were seated, ordered our drinks and got our food. We tried the sushi first. I started to put a few california rolls onto my plate when I noticed a long black hair on top of the squid sushi...it was disgusting. The buffet area was very crowded which made it difficult to take your time and decide what you wanted. People were pushing and rushing to pile food on top of their plates. Not an enjoyable feeling. The dinner felt rushed and it seemed like the servers were watching you and wanted you to leave quickly. They even have a sign on each table that says there's an 1 1/2 time limit on dining...what a joke. Then comes the bill with the service charge which they note is NOT a tip (14% plus tax), but part or all of the service charge may go to pay the employees salaries (just another way to rip you off and it probably goes in the owner's greedy pockets). I didn't leave any additional money for a tip as I thought the Service charge is ridiculous. They should either add the charge to the base cost of the buffet or charge for the "complimentary" beverages. The total cost for my boyfriend and I was $80.03 (he had a beer for an additional charge). It wasn't worth the money at all. My boyfriend swears they put some chemical in the food to make people full quickly as we had two dishes and ended up leaving.

Spend your money somewhere else. This place is dirty and a rip-off.

Overcrowded, waiters are rude and some barely speak english, the hostess is a joke and doesn't do anything, and the manager this indian guy needs to be fired. He doesn't do his job at all. All he does is argue with the customers and say that he's right. Who wants to come back to a place like that. Plus there are always these flies in the restaurant that hovers over the food area and bothers you while you eat. The bathroom is not that clean and insufficient light, probably b/c it's dirty and they don't want you to see it. The dept of health really should check this place out and make sure the inspector is not being bribed to pass them. This is purely a money making machine with no tact at all. Low class. This place needs to be boycotted until they change management and clean up their restaurant and hire some waiters that actually have experience and a good attitude.

I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Last night while dined at Harvest Buffet, I found a fly in my soup that totally destroyed my appetite. I complained to the manager who reluctantly admitted it as a problem and offered me a $3 discount off of my bill. Not that I cared about the discount, but they managed to ruin my night with my wife that simply outraged me. We quickly paid the bill and vowed not to return to that restaurant again. By the way, unbeknownst to me, the restaurant charges a mandatory tip regardless of how many people there are in your party. That said, even you want to tip less because of the poor service received, you will not have a prayer. Just an FYI.

This is a relatively expensive buffet for the area (over $25). The food is decent with lots of seafood available. After all, it is a Chinese buffet so seafood is expected. The service is fast - you always come back to a clean table.

Then you get the bill and there is a 13% service charge on there, that is taxed, and we are told that this is probably not the tip. What do they mean by probably? I have no idea. What is it then? What service could be charged for that is different from any other restaurant? Perhaps it is the service of offering free soda. Or free bubble tea. Free - probably not.

This just galled me and I will not be returning. I know they will not miss my business as they are always packed, but the service charge was just too much. It feels like I was being ripped off. Oh well, it won't happen again.

For a while now, I've been seeing the ads for Harvest Buffet and a $2 coupon in the local queens papers.
When passing by, it always seemed pretty busy, so that made me think it was someplace worth trying some day. Having been to a few chinese buffets, you can find a range of quality of food, variety of food, and price. Usually the higher the price, the better chance of the quality being better.
So today I tried HB. Was busy, but some tables were available and so was parking.
Seated instantly, and the waitress (too quietly for me to hear) asked about drinks. Got a soda (included in the meal price), which was a weekend price of $26.95 or $27.95 from my recollection (a pretty good price, probably why it's not printed in the ad). Service was ok, but all they did was remove full plates, never spoke to us or asked if we wanted soda refills. Food was varied, some things more choices than other buffets, some areas less (meats). Some things were of better quality than others. Crowed food aisles.
When the bill came, there was a discovery that really ticked me off, and maybe it was in small print elsewhere on signs, but I did not see it. There was a 14% mandatory service charge, added to the bill, and then tax added to that charge as well. The note on the check says it is NOT a Tip / gratuity, and SOME or ALL of it MAY go to the staff If you say MAY, implied is also the MAY-NOT possibility. so where does it go?
I want to call this a scam, but that may be too harsh. However, finding this charge and the end of your meal, made it less palatable. Why not list list the price of the meal as $31 instead of $26.95? Well, considering the quality of the service and this "sur-charge", I went middle of the road and left only a 10% tip. If the staff got 1/2 of the 14% =7% + my 10%, then they did good at 17% for the service received.
This is the first place I've ever gone to that had a mandatory service charge on the check that was NOT a tip / gratuity. Live and learn!

We visited the Harvest Buffet on Sunday, 7/20; first time in a year or so. When I called to ask what time they closed, I was told 10:30pm, so we arrived around 8:30pm. When we arrived, the sign on the door indicated they closed at 11:30pm on Sunday. I mention this because at 9:40pm, they started to take away all the food, even though they seated patrons at about 9:15pm, so I felt this was just another Asian restaurant scam - bring them in, charge full price ($30.00) & then pull the food away.
Although the assortment of foods was adequete, the quality of the food was marginal at best. Food used to be much better with a better choice of dishes, particularly meats, which were few & far between on Sunday evening.
I think the most negative experience at the HB is the new 14% "Service Charge" they are now adding to all checks. Their sign says this is NOT a Tip / Gratuity, but meant to pay the workers $7.00 hr salary. Since when is it right for the customers to pay the workers salary, plus tip ??
I thought that comes from the business operating costs.
Half way into dinner, a table of about 8 Asian diners, refused to pay their bill (I suspect it had something to do with the 14% service-charge). There was a loud screaming match between the waitress, manager & patrons, all in Chinese. A few minutes later 5 Nassau cops arrived & the patrons claimed they did not speak English, at which point one officer pulled out his handcuffs & said "I bet you understand these - all of a sudden no one speaks English" (so typical). They all argued for about a 1/2 hour at which point the officers threatened to arrest the entire table & the bill was finally paid.
Regarding service, as always, very rude. Never a smile or thank you from any staff; everyone has a scowl. When we handed our server the $2.00 off coupon, she sneered at us & walked away. Cashier does not understand English (other than taking your money).
Save your $30.00 for better dining elsewhere !!!

In my lifetime I've been to three (more or less) Chinese buffet restaurants. I'm not usually a buffet person to begin with, but I was actually pleased with this place. In terms of what's offered, they have the usual fare (seafood including crabs and chiliean seabass; peking duck; etc.), but they also have stuff that other buffet places don't offer (the following has NO extra charge: soda; bubble/tapioca pearl beverages). They also have a decent variety of Chinese-style soups (not just wonton & hot & sour!). One reason I don't usually like buffets is that the food is almost always lukewarm, but this place is decent. The atmosphere - the place is shaped and decorated like a diner. As for dessert, they actually have a chocolate fountain! Desserts also include the usual: many different types of pastries, soft ice cream, fresh fruit, etc. In terms of service - they clear the plates off your table in a routine and timely manner so that you can always seat yourself back down with clear space. Highly recommended if you like Chinese buffets.

Cons: It's in Long Island and not in the city

First, at goodfoodrocks_dup, service charge IS the tip so you double tipped them. Second, I don't expect great service at these type of restaurants, but they keep my glasses filled, take my plate away promptly, and I can ask any waiter or waitress for service unlike most restaurants where they seem to disappear for an hour when they're only waiting on 3 tables. Harvest has a nice variety and their salad bar is nicer than a well-known $75 buffet restaurant in Tribeca. Price includes a variety of drinks including bubble tea.

I have to agree with the poster that stated that they are overly concerned with the money only. My check was for $50.03. I showed her a $50 bill and a $100 bill. She grabbed the $100!

Pros: It was adequate

Cons: There cheapness left me feeling angry. I would never go back!

I normally check the reviews on this website but never comment but after tonight's experience I just had to let the public know! This place has good and quick seating and beverage-taking service (being that I went on a Tuesday night). The waiters are quick to pick up your order and to clean up after you. Everything seems to be going well until the check comes. The waiters pace back and forth like a hawk at it's prey waiting for the check to be paid. I approached the cashier with a question about being charged 13% for "service charge" and then being TAXED on top of that. That is the first time I've heard/seen that on a bill. After asking the clueless cashier the "manager" decides to come by and respond to my question as if I was missing half a brain. AFTER returning to my seat and calculating tip on top of the already taxed service charge that is given to the waiters/waitresses...i proceed to gather my cash to pay the bill. The waitress swooops down and picks it up and COUNTS the money in front of us! Maybe I'm a little old fashioned but that's the rudest thing I've seen! They probably have many people confuse the Service Charge with Tip -- that might be the reason for them to be so rude as to count it in front of you. I don't think I'd voluntarily go there again. Plus the bathrooms have only two stalls for the ladies room...I know the restaurant could easily fit 100 people. On a good note, there is a wide variety of food. a row of diverse sushi rolls and pieces. a row of cold food items such as shrimp, salad, salad accessories, etc. a row of crab legs and fried meats. row of soups. row of bubble tea drinks. row of desserts such as ice cream, cakes. row of dim sum. row of typical chinese entrees.

Pros: Parking, Food Varities, Right off the Cross Island Parkway, Quick clean-up of plates from the table.

Cons: RUDE Staff, Taxed twice (???), Bubble Tea drink isn't freshly made, Limited bathroom stalls, Cashier's english is limited.

I have no idea why my friend (let's call him Ed) takes me here all the time. The selection, while very big, is like any other buffet place. And let's all remember, buffets are into quantity and not quality E.S.L.. I do like that the place has good parking and prices are cheap, but c'mon people, draw the line somewhere....the food is just OK.

Pros: Selection

Cons: Quality of the food (sorry folks, it's true)
