Some dude named Keith called me a Ni*ger and created a big issue when I asked to see apartments over $1750. My budget was to $3000. Citi Habitats is a bunch of racists who won't rent to anyone Black. Stay away from them.

Working with Citi Habitats was a stressful experience and in the end we did not find an apart. I could go on for pages but basically I did not feel that they had my best interest in mind. We lost three apartments because of disorganization. They needed an endless supply of papers, had us running around faxing things they "forgot" to tell us about multiple times a day. In the end I felt they were unprofessional and lost all trust in their business practices. I'm sure some of the realtors are honest and really care about their clients but this was def not our experience. We wasted alot of time and ended up with nothing to show for it. How do I rate this business:F

I've been around long enough to know that real estate is a sleazy business and that there is no such thing as a straightforward, upstanding, honest real estate agent, but these folks really take the cake when it comes to underhanded, sleazy tactics. Bait and switch, not revealing hidden brokers' fees, manipulating people into signing agreements they're not aware of -- par for the course for these folks. Stay away...stay far, far away...

I had an appointment with broker that he made a week in advance. On the day of the meeting he didn't show up. I waited for 45 minutes. When I finally got a hold of him he said and I quote " I'm very busy and I had to prioritize, and someone with you're price range is not my priority....sorry". I found this rude and unprofessional not to mention that i wasted my one day off to look at apartments.

The broker showed me an apartment at the end of November that needed minor renovations. He strung me along until Dec 30th (my original move in date was Dec. 16th) before telling me that the apartment would not be finished for a few more weeks at least. Keep in mind that this was one day before New Years Eve in New York City AND he knew that our lease was expiring at the end of the next day. He then offered me a substantially smaller apartment in the same building for slightly less money.

If this is not the very definition of a "bait and switch" I do not know what is. He had plenty of opportunities to check on the original apartment and was insisting all along that it would be ready, but he of course blamed it all on the management company.

the broker misrepresented herself numerous times, she went back on her word and upped the move in date without our consent. Also, we were promised a renovated kitchen, yet it was never renovated. Also, we were hit with $280.00 in undisclosed fees above the alleged "negotiable" broker fee.

i do not recommend using them.

This company was horrible...they tried to show me only apartments above what I indicated was my maximum rent range...the broker took me around to only a handful of places (half of which he did not have keys for, and had to buzz tenants to try and get me in!). Not only did the broker try to pressure me into making a decision before I had seen a large variety of apartments, but he provided me with inaccurate information. He insisted it was rent stabilized, but when I went to the management company to sign the lease, I discovered it was not. DECEITFUL BUSINESS PRACTICES! My broker did not represent me or my interests with the management company which needed even more documentation than indicated by the broker and also wanted 2 month's deposit (NOT the 1 indicated by the broker).

ADVICE: don't use them as a broker, and pay thousands of dollars in fees! google management companies and deal with them directly, since your broker will just be on his blackberry the whole time, leaving negotiations completely up to you!

My roommate and I worked with two brokers from CitiHabitats who were really horrible. They kept a lot of information from us and kept reassuring that everything was going along swimmingly until the management company would call and ask us for all kinds of information that the broker hadn't told us about. They did nothing to actually deserve the massive fee they got from us - they did not act as middlemen between us and the management company - we did all the calling ourselves - all they did was collect the fee at the end of the transaction.

PROS: Got a great apartment in the end
CONS: Horrible, bullying attitude, huge broker's fee

The ever daunting task of trying to find an apartment in New York City can be helped a little but by the brokers at Citi Habitats. With access to 99 percent of the for-rent apartments in New York, the 15 percent of the annual rent fee is almost forgivable.

I worked with one agent from CitiHabitats and he was very nice and seemingly helpful. However, he completely dropped the ball on my apartment search. I called another agent from there and he was so helpful and really worked to find us something in the neighborhood we wanted in our price range.

I can't say that I have interacted with this company a lot; however, I simply wanted to view a few apartments on the upper west side. In order to do so, the agent was more interested in getting me to sign an agreement that would have a large fee attached to it (although she promised she would cut it down and insisted that I shouldn't be concerned about it and to sign this contract). It was my first time going to a company to have them show me apartments. I signed the contract thinking that unless I got something through her, it was not binding. I later found that I could not get something in that area through someone else without some series of penalties or I would have to wait for a certain time period. The apartments that I was shown weren't that great and she insisted that after looking at 4 or 5 I should put my money on something to secure a spot. Seeing that I was new to the whole process I was concerned about writing checks for deposits at different locations and not being sure if I would be refunded or not. The whole experience was overwhelming and seemed to go way too fast without a lot of time and learning about what I wanted. I think you should get the facts before going through this company to ensure that you know everything about this.

PROS:
CONS: They throw a lot of info at you w/o explaining themselves

January 2005, I used a broker from this company and it was horrible. Not only did the company not disclose their insanely high brokers fee until the very end of the long and toturous deal they also managed to pressure me into a decision I was not comfortable with. I was pushed into what I later found was a mouse infested, roach infested, spider infested house. The landlord is so bad I am going to have to begin my first lawsuit!

PROS:
CONS: horrible all around
