I've only gotten takeout from here since its pretty close to my buddy's apartment, but it's exactly what it seems. The food is hot, good, and there's never any surprises. What more could you ask for?

ate here 6 months ago and it was delicious....consequently we went back. I'm not sure what happened but the food was terrible this time. The pot stickers were dried out. The veggie lo mein was so salty I couldn't eat it. Did it change owners?

Pros: None...oh wait, the waiter was friendly

Cons: the food

This is my family's favorite chinese restaurant. They have all the classics your kids may want, like sweet and sour chicken and they make their own delicious sauce for it. They also have great specials- the crispy eggplant is my favorite. Prices are cheap, the service is great and the food comes fast. The same family has been running it forever- and they are there working every day.

Fu Jin has excellent food, I love it, the thing that sucks is they want you to play for extra condiments, they have this awesome sauce but they only dole it out in little increments. Bring on the sauce people!

Some of the best Chinese in the Portland area. Not very well known, but so worth the trip. The portions will require a take home bag...and then you can enjoy it again at home!

I go to Fu Jin all the time. I always get the Sesame Chicken, extra spicy. It is fantastic, so hot I cry, but that's how I like it. I always get the same waiter, and he is extremely gracious and nice. I don't know his name, but he's there whenever I am.

Pros: Great Sesame Chicken, Good service whenever I've been, fair prices.

Cons: Rice now costs extra, parking on Hawthorne in the middle of the day :/

I had General Tso's chicken, it was wonderful. Slightly crispy with a hint of spiciness. My wife had KungPao chicken and was equally happy. Serving sizes are large enough to share. They had about 10 specials on the white board on the wall.

I didn't like the wonton soup much. Wontons were a little doughy and the soup was a bit salty.

The waiter said they made everything at the restraunt (except soy sauce). Definitely will be going back.

This is my favorite Chinese food in any city, and I've lived in NY and LA. The service is phenomenally quick and responsive, and the dishes are tasty beyond compare. I've always been partial to the seafood and noodle soup on rainy days, it has a really good broth.

Beware of false bad reviews, I think Fujin may have some here, also Flying Pie Pizzeria, which if phenomenal. Reviews saying the food had bad ingredients when I go to these restaurants for years, it seems like competitors put in lousy reviews on these boards. Fujin is top notch.

We go here about once a month and we've always enjoyed the food and low key atmosphere. Our favorite waiter is the son of the family. He is always gracious and manages to get a good short conversation in when there is time. If you are looking around for good, cheap chinese food in portland, this is the spot. woohoo!

Fu-Jin has been a mixed bag for me. When I moved here 4 years ago, the food there was fantastic: always arrived steaming hot, good quality meats, nice sauces. Suddenly, it went completely foul. I had bad food on several occasions: overly battered, poor cuts of meat, bad taste and I was once a victim of undercooked chicken there, very pink on the inside, when I sent it back, they brought me more that was overcooked and burned. I didn't go for a while. A month ago, I decided to give it another chance. It was vastly improved with a new menu. The sweet and sour prawns had a very light panko bread crumb coating, not the usual heavy batter, and were delicious! Hopefully, they are on an uphill swing. The woman who works there is a grade A b***ch! I don't know what her problem is. Hopefully, Fu-Jin will once again have great food and that lady will get on Paxil or something.

But not great. I got the crispy eggplant because that's all anyone I've ever talked to about this place could talk about and it was good. Not bad, not great, but good. Definately better than a lot of Chinese restaurants in town, but I don't think I'd go out of my way to go here. If you want a quick pretty cheap Chinese food fix though, it'll take care of your craving.

My husband usually doesn't like Chinese food, and he loved this. The family owned restaurant is really friendly, and the food is good. We really liked the potstickers, General Tso's chicken, and Dry Sauteed Stringbeans.

I have very little to say for this spot other than the food is a sloppy excuse for Chinese food and that the hostess was very mean and rude to my party and I. Twice this happend! And twice the chicken came to our table pink and cold on the inside. I should have never gone back a second time.
Good Luck!

The food here is fabulous and always hot. The hot and sour soup is amongst the best in the city. Lunch specials served until three are super cheap and tasty. If you order carryout you will be greeted on the other end of the phone by Becky, half of the husband and wife pair that own the restaurant. She can be a bit abrupt, partially due to the fact that they are often very busy, but will warm up if you become a frequent customer. This place is a gem.

This place serves hot and sour soup that is actually both hot and sour! It's so good it makes my mouth water when I eat it.

The crispy eggplant is the best such dish I have ever tasted, and I *like* aubergine and eat it comparatively often in many dishes. The texture is amazing, as is that of the pepper salt squid.

I happen to be a chef who aspires to specialization in Asian cuisines. The preparation, texture, seasoning, and service of the pepper salt squid are the second best I've ever had, and wonderfully consistent. I am mightily impressed, and I like the couple who run the place.

I just came back from lunch at Fu Jin with my sweetie, and we shared lunch specials of the above two dishes. It was delicious and cost twelve bucks. Go. If you know Chinese food (in my admittedly biased opinion) you'll love the place.

Some people like this place for reasons unimaginable. Their signature dish is the crispy eggplant, but it can be spotty. You're really just slurping sauce if you get this sometimes, other times it can be okay. Everything else is below average. Like most places, you should try them at least once-but like some places, it's not an enjoyable experience and the only reason you should go to them is to know how bad they are so you will know for sure that they're really that bad. This place is probably the worst place to eat Chinese food, if you can call it that-even essence of china is better than this place. Go here with an open mind, leave with a narrow mind.

I was so surprised my friends had been frequenting Fu Jin for years and were just now letting me in on their secret. The Potstickers were large and fresh, not soggy and greasy. The rest of our meals were very fresh - crisp vegetables, not a lot of sauce covering up the flavor of the veges and chicken. This is my new favorite chinese restaurant.

Pros: Food, Price

There are very few decent Chinese restaurants in this area, especially for someone that does not like bland Cantonese and scoffs at restuarants that have "American" in the name. Me & my mom weren't planning to eat here, but we stumbled in hungry and were pleasantly surprised by the great service and food. The hot & sour soup was actually HOT here and the sesame beef and general's tso's chicken were not soggy and overly battered like at most Chinese restaurants. The servers were very polite and helpful and made our plates extra spicy for us. The price is also very good for the quality.

We have been here twice, to answer deep cravings for hot and sour soup, and found the food quality different both times. The first had us in hot-n-sour soup ecstasy--a delicately-balanced blend of hot, sour, and spicy was among the best we had ever had, but the second visit greeted us with a disappointing, oversalted bowl. I am not sure still what to think of the fried eggplant. Bordered precariously on what I call "fair food" (nothing wrong with good ole deep-fried badness, but I'd rather get it at, well, a fair). I am also concerned when dishes "with vegetables" really mean "with a year's worth of chopped celery." I have this intuition, though, that there is worthy food to be had at FuJin, as it is less greasy than a lot of Americanized Chinese places I've been to. I will go again.

My first visit there I got the tofu and veggies in black bean sauce, which was very good. The menu said it was a house favorite so I thought I'd better try it. And the fried spring rolls are not to be missed. The dipping sauce for the spring rolls isn't as good as other places I've tried. Next time I go I will have to try the fried crispy eggplant, since most reviews on here said it was good. Fu Jin was busy for a Sunday evening and the service was excellent.

Ok, so I tried out Fu Jin based upon CS ratings. I ordered the crispy eggplant. It was terrible! Way too saucy with a bad flavor, couldn't taste the eggplant at all. The friend I went with found their meal unappealing as well. We gave the place one more try-never again!

Fujin is a great Chinese place, you'll find fresh ingredients, strong, clear flavoring and very pleasant service. They have daily specials and an assortment of seafood. I've eaten there three times, and have had excellent consistency and quality. The famous crispy eggplant is *not* to be missed. I have also had great mu shu shrimp, gyoza and spicy beef. I would recommend it to anyone I wanted to impress. The only possible downside is the place gets crowded!
