Two bartenders couldn't handle service to 5 groups of people that totaled 13 people? Water wasn't refilled. Was asked if I wanted another drink only to wait 15 minutes to get it. Was asked repeatedly what we ordered or if we had ordered. Crab cake tasted like a grocery store brand. Come one, 13 people in the entire bar and 2 bar tenders can't remember if they've asked a customer for an order? For the price you pay, you should get excellent service. We tipped 5% and ended up skipping our dinner reservation there and went to McCormick & Schmicks instead.

Pros: nice atmosphere

Cons: bad service, not a happy hour price, cold food

Just about everything about this place is nice. It's clean, the staff are great, and the food is awesome.

My wife and I went to this restaurant to celebrate my birthday. It was supposed to be a special night out. We arrived at 7:25 and got our food at 9:30. One hour's wait for a table and a second hour for our food. My lobster (which cost $60) and her Copper River king salmon ($40) were both waaaay overcooked and very dry. As soon as they set the lobster down in front of me, I could smell the metallic smell of iodine. It was so late, we'd waited so long, and we were so trying to have a good time, so we didn't confront them about the quality of the food, though we probably should have (but to what end?). They knew they had taken too long, so they comped us a dessert - but both of them were also almost inedible, and we left most of both on the table when we left. This restaurant was an expensive, big disappointment.

Pros: They have a range of seafood and fish.

Cons: It is very badly cooked.

My son who was recently transplanted from Manhattan, suggested Eddie V's on Sat. July 5th. He went on-line Saturday morning and made a 6:00 p.m. reservation for that evening. He had dined there previously and had been impressed. Upon arrival we were escorted to our table, and was told who our server would be . He appeared shortly after and inquired if we had dined there prior. He explained all the specials, and also indicated that certain desserts needed 20 minutes to prepare, and if we wished to order one, now was the time to tell him. He also indicated that the sides were large enough for sharing. We ordered 3 appetizers, all arrived timely, and all were gone within minutes. Shortly thereafter our entrees arrived (filets, rib eye steak, salmon), along with our 4 side dishes. The servers asked us to cut into our steaks for the doneness that we requested. The servers held a small flashlight while we 4 steak eaters inspected our meat. All of which was cooked to perfection. The salmon diner kept saying that it was the best salmon he had ever eaten. Which is a big compliment since he eats salmon 2 to 3 times a week. We had to pass on dessert since we could barely finish our entrees. We found the service and the food to be exceptional and will plan on returning on our next visit. As I had read some previous unfavorable reviews, I kept wondering if this was the same Eddie V's that we had just visited. This is the first time ever that I have left a review on dining, and suggest that you visit this establishment yourself. Also, the wine list was pages, hard to believe that people thought that it wasn't extensive enough. Also, while we were deciding what to order, one of the hostesses brought a bouquet of flowers (card attached) to a nearby booth that was vacant. Shortly thereafter, a couple arrived. Obviously, this was something planned ahead by the very thoughtful husband and carried out by the Eddie V's staff.

Pros: Service AND food

Cons: Couldn't fit in dessert/Valet was a little tight, but doable.

First of all thank you all for your input. Which actually prompted me to pick Eddie Vs. I made a reservation this Saturday for May 10th. There are perks for making reservations which i will tell you at the end. First advantage was it was fully packed but we ddn't wait much long until we were seated( reservation). Everybody was very polite and friendly. I can tell u before you leave, u will remember everybody's name from bartender to waiter. The ambience was the best, someone said it smelled like seafood inside forunately i couldn't smell that fragrance. My waiter was the best, he would explicitly explain what each item would taste like and look like, makes you very comfortable. The best part is when you are in such a place and indulged in conversation u totally forget about food. Needless to say mine arrived on time and with some great fine dining cuisine. I ordered swordfish steak, and my wife ordered red snapper. both tasted exquisite. Mine i felt need some sauce, cuz here was no sauce with the fish and thats why the penalty of 1 star. Other than that no complains. So finally my perk for online reservation, I metioned about our anniversary at the reservation notes and we were gifted with a free dessert for the night. It really ended on a sweet and a happy note. Thank you.

Pros: good food, great people

Cons: wine pairing could add that, it woud be great with seafood

Eddie V's was a pleasant discovery. In the heart of one of the most crowded spots in Austin, we found unique flavors, original blends, healthy and tasty food, good live music, elegant atmosphere but easy-going feeling. Good place for a date but also for having a conversation with friends or business fellows, being able to actually hear each other. The staff is nice and helpful. We enjoyed every little bit of it!

Pros: everything

Cons: I probably need to go there a second time to find some...

.

I visit Eddie V's on numerous occasions and have never been disappointed. I have eaten all over the world and find that these guys have better fish than what I used to eat on the east coast. The steaks are top notch and I always feel that the staff is willing to go above and beyond, even when I needed batteries for my camera - they noticed and provided some for me without making it seem like a hassle. I enjoy eating at the bar on occasion to soak in some of the live music and converse with the friendliest and helpful bartenders around. It can get crowded sometimes, but I kind of enjoy a place that is busy...reassures my quality of taste. I highly recommend Eddie V's as it is unquestionably my first choice when I dine in Austin.

I took my nephew there to get take out for the family and he thought it would be neat to go with me. He was starving and wanted a snack so I said he could get an app while we ordered food to go. I ordered a drink from the bartender who was so rude that if my nephew hadnt been with me I would have said something to him. He acted as if I was bothering him. I had to draw the line when he was rude to my nephew. We had ordered a large amount of food about 10 to maybe15 min before. So I told the bartender that we were canceling our order. He rolled his eyes and then said it is here. My reaction was there was NO CHANCE ON THE PLANET that the kitchen could have cooked and packed all the food that we ordered in 10 min! NO CHANCE. I asked to see a manager who said he was going to take care of our bill! I didnt take the food and they charged me!!! I have left 2 voicemails and no one is calling me back! Now I get to fight the credt card company! The bartenders are RUDE! The management cant even return a phone call!! I wouldn't step foot in the restaurant agaiin!

I have traveled all over the world and love food, wine and great atmospheres!!! This restaurant is about as far from fabulous as you can get! First I felt as though I was being pushed through a cattle line! The bartenders were so rude that I felt like leaving after I ordered my first drink! Seeing the wine list seemed to be a major hassel in addition I asked to taste a wine that I wasnt sure about and with a role of the eyes and a huge attitude I was told fine. My husband and I and the friends we were with turned to eachother and were all thinking we should have left. They werent slammed so we werent sure why it took 20 min to get 4 drinks. Then we sat down and think well we will give it a try. The wine list was so so, the food bland and over priced and the same attitude follwed us into the dining room! Our food came out basically as were taking our first bite of our apps and then when we obviously decided against desert the check was there in NO TIME FLAT!! After 300.00, I would say it was a waste of money and time and we wont be back!! We have eaten at Flemmings before and I would go there before ever going back to Eddie V's!!!! What a major let down!!!

We had dinner with friends, and I was very disappointed about the menu choices.\r
The atmosphere was lound and crounded. Not to count the the lighting was so dark that I couldn't read my menu.\r
The food was just adequate, I didn't find anything special in it.\r
The service was nice, the waiter was competent.\r
But for sure I will not go back.

Being from out of town I had never heard of Eddie V's before, but now I will never forget it! The service was amazing and the food was phenomenal. The atmosphere was crowded yes, but some how romantic. My boyfriend and I had no reservation and were accommodated at a table in the lounge. I was afraid it would be noisy and uncomfortable, but I was instantly proven wrong. The woman singer had a vintage style that was simply beautiful. Now to the food. I am a steak person, a meat and potatoes kind of girl and this meat and those twice bake potatoes changed my whole outlook. I had the 8oz steak that was cooked to perfection and juices dripped down my chin. The twice baked potatoes were like fluffy, cheesy, happy clouds in my mouth. My boyfriend had the ahi tuna and said it was one of the best he ever had. But hands down the best part of the meal was the Cinnamon Raisin Bread pudding. It has this marshmallow/meringue topping and was served piping hot ...WOW. I will be back again, but maybe with a reservation next time.

Cons: parking, ate too much

Atmosphere: After navigating the tiny valet drive-thru, waiting in line behind cars dropping off and picking up, you finally step out and face a sea of people waiting in the same cramped valet area, all of which you must fight thru just to enter Eddie V's. Inside is yet another small and awkward area. The near suffocating atmosphere does not end there. Upon being seated (we had reservations, request for booth not honored) we were squeezed between two tables whose occupants were literally elbow to elbow to us all night. And no, this is not ""just how nice restaurants are"". Eddie Vs interior is like a crowded food court in a dark mall. (I'd like to add here that the men's restroom was horrible..... paper towels laying around, one little sink, and of course very cramped. Typical for a truck-stop, not so much for fine dining).\r
\r
Service: Service was poor and non attentive, but that can be forgiven for a single visit. \r
\r
Food: All this I could over look IF the food was great.... but such was not the case. The food was simply atrocious. Our appetizer was comically less than the ""half pound"" ordered and provided nothing to be desired. Our main-courses were awful... just really honestly awful. Their Hong Kong Sea-bass tasted like an old basketball which had been cut up, bleached, steamed, and covered with cheap soy sauce. My wife's Butterfish tasted like a cheap frozen filet covered in heavy cream. Oh yeah, and my martini came in what looked like a novelty sized child's cocktail glass. \r
\r
We've enjoyed fine dining all over the world, so I do not make these observations lightly or without insight. You might enjoy Eddie V's if your goal is to be 6-inches from hundreds of people in a cramped and awkward setting, pay hundreds of dollars for food that can't even be described as 'acceptable', and maybe catch a glimpse of the Mayor's aid's aid on a Friday night...... but if you actually want fine dining with food that makes you smile, then stay away.

Where do I begin??? Do I start with the hostess at the front door, that was too busy talking to her boyfriend to acknowledge us? Or do I proceed to the bar where it took us a good 5-10 minutes to get greeted by a bartender who acted like we were bothering him by asking for a drink ( it looked like we were interrupting him from eating something not sure what it was, but shouldn't you be busy serving me??). When we finally get our drinks I find lipstick smeared on my martini glass and my husband had a glass of water that smelled like fish, and had something floating in it. We were tempted to leave but decided we would give the dining room a shot. BAD choice! The service was good, and the food was not worth the money. More than anything it was the cleanliness of the place, a busser picking his nose, a chef sticking his fingers in the sea bass, and our server sneezing into his hands while taking our order. I hate to rip the place, but really, I felt like I was going to walk out of that place with a virus. I WON'T be back!!!

Appetizers are half price during happy hour, and they are DELICIOUS! I love the calamari and crabcakes. The bartenders mix great martinis, and the live music is great. Get there early, this place gets busy!

Great atmosphere, exceptional food and wonderful service. The yellow tail fish special was mouth watering as was the tuna tartar, and the Bailey?s chocolate cake was heaven. To say the least, I had a party in my mouth for at least two hours. Our server ?Brooks? was exceptional. He provided his honest recommendations and opinions when asked, and his personality was friendly as well as professional. Overall, an exceptional night, with great live music, and I look forward to my next visit. Money definitely well spent. The only draw back to my evening, was that we were a party of two and we were sat in the lounge at a two top table. The problem with this is there were many, many open four top tables available. Our table did not hold both of our appetizers and our bottle of wine comfortably at all. Our bread, and condiments had to be put on the table next to us to allow room for us to eat. You would think that someone noticing how crowded and uncomfortable our seating arrangement was becoming would have offered us a four top table since so many were available. Just a minor set back. Next time, I will just request a four top. Highly recommended!

We had the Ahi Tuna steak & the roasted Halibut along with the jumbo scallop appetizer, corn & crab chowder, creamed spinach with garlic, and Brabant potatoes. \r
\r
Everything was beautifully prepared and presented. The halibut in particular was wonderful - a very mild dish with the perfect sherry/garlic/broth/sauce. The tuna was an incredible slab of fish steak with a nice spicy ginger sauce. The chowder was a yawner - quite bland even with the fresh pepper, but everything else was quite tasty. The molten Godiva chocolate cake was merely undercooked butter cake, good but I have a similar recipe at home...I was very glad to taste the Amy's mexican vanilla ice cream that accompanied it. Wow! Now I have to find the nearest Amy's for more of that wonderful stuff. \r
\r
All in all a great evening. Softer sound from the band would have rated an additional half-star. It was somewhat annoying to have keep repeating those romantic words in a half-scream. Otherwise, a delicious experience.\r
\r
We happened to snag a corner booth in the lounge - probably because it was a Monday evening. But soon after, the lounge filled up and everyone stayed and stayed. It is a great place to, er, lounge with friends. It was our anniversary, so the indirect lighting added a romantic coziness to our seating. In fact, it would have been perfect if only the band weren't so deafeningly loud. \r
\r
Our server was a charming girl and quite knowledgeable about the menu. She kept our glasses filled and used plates were whisked away. But, a meal that cost over $100 with no alcohol should have included something to keep my Pellegrino cold. No ice was offered, and the bottle just sat on a coaster getting warmer. We waited a bit too long to have our leftovers noticed and boxed up.

Pros: Delicious food, great service

Cons: Valet parking only and LOUD band

My wife and I had dinner reservations on a Wednesday night (5/30) and upon arrival we were ushered to the overcrowded and noisy Lounge area. We opted to wait a few minutes to be seated in the main dining area which was only slightly less crowded and just as noisy. Our waiter was knowledgeable, prompt and sympathetic to the fact that we were given a tiny table wedged between a fire exit and two other larger tables. In fact, we were so close to an adjacent table that when a gentleman next to us spilled his water most of it landed on our table. Additionally, our section manager asked the dining parties to our left and right about their dining experience but completely ignored us. We had oyster for appetizers which were fresh and medium size. We both had the trout for our entrees. The serving size was generous and the food was fresh. The dessert menu lacked key lime pie, so opted for fresh mixed berries. We had a half bottle of chardonnay. When we were finally able to flag down an alternate manager, he did confess that we were seated at a poor table and explained that the manager who previously ignored us was new on the job. The later manager did comp our entrees (despite our objections for him no to) and he sincerely apologized. Even with that, the noise, overcrowded atmosphere and slightly above average seafood is enough to steer us away from Eddie V's in the future.

I was utterly amazed at how friendly and attentive (without being too much so) our waitstaff was when my boyfriend and i went to Eddie V's Downtown. We had never been there before, but we were both highly impressed. The food was delicious and plentiful, *huge* cuts of fish for our entree, and the special appetizer, a soft shell tempura crab was heavenly. The tempura was more like a lighter fish batter, rather than true tempura, but it was still very good. The best thing was the bread pudding ""souffle"" that was gigantic and absoltuely, hands down, one of the best deserts I've ever had. It's extremely heavy, we didn't finish but half of it, but it was amazing. Again, the waitstaff were friendly, curtious and always addressed us by name when we spoke. We also had many staff come buy and visit our table to make sure everything was to our liking, including managerial staff. Overall, it was a great experience and I highly recommend it.

My husband and I went to Eddie V's and were told to make reservations for the Lounge. Well, we did and when we got there they could not accomodate us. They first told us they had a table close to the band and would we like to see it but as they were taking us back we were told that another party had the table. We were then given the option to wait or eat in the dining room. We thought this was a little class ""less"" for such a ""classy"" upscale restaurant. The dining room was very noisy. Our server was knowledgeable but beyond him we were not impressed. By the time we got to order we didn't have the appetite to splurge on the main entrees but we tried the crab cakes. They were good but again not enough for me to go back.

The review I wrote regarding the double charge to our credit card was for the Eddie V's ARBORETUM location. Sorry for the confusion.

Similar to my other review of another seafood place, the happy hour deal here is great. Parking is very tough being so close to the hip and happening areas. I prefer to eat at the location in the Arboretum sometimes to avoid the parking problems. Valet is preferred here. If you have a very nice car and pay a bit extra, they park it right up front so you can keep an eye on it and know it's not being dinged in some garage.\r
\r
The happy hour is somewhat confusing. Plates that are under $12.50 are half off on the happy hour deal. Portions are decent but the prices can add up quickly. The tuna tartare, ahi, salads, heck, everything is great here. The lobster bisque is a favorite of my wife's. I find it too salty and way too much butter to make it palatable for me, but many love it. \r
\r
the lighting in both locations is way too dim for me. I'm only 34 and I find it hard to read the menu sometimes. The bar scene gets chaotic and loud during happy hour. The live music can't be beat. Very classy and very snazzy. I once had a client get up on stage to jam with the band which was surprising and fun for our party. A lot of well off individuals in this place, as well as folks who want to be seen. Dinner section is quieter and very sophisticated with the dark wood, low halogen lighting theme. \r
\r
I recommend this place to those looking for good high end dining.

My husband and I went to Eddie V's for our Anniversary and we can not wait to go again!\r
The food is fantastic and the waitstaff is even better! The crabcakes were to die for and the bone in Ribeye was the best I have ever had in Austin! My husband ordered Alaskan Halibut and it melted in your mouth. We will be returning again and again the prices are well worth it!!!

For my boyfriends birthday we went to Eddie V's and absolutly loved it. I would defanitly recommend to anyone.

Amazing dinner last night. The special, Blue Marlin, was excellent. My wife had the lemon/brown butter snapper. She actually cleaned her plate. Only suggestion. When I made the reservations they asked if we were celebrating. I told them it was our 20th anniversary. Not a mention of it all night. If you take the time to ask, follow thru... Once again a Great Dinner. We will be back.

My wife and I went to Eddie V's last night and it was a class act from beginning to end. The broiled oysters with spinach/artichoke fondue were a great way to start (paired with a couple of the best maritinis we've had in town), and the waiter made great wine suggestion to go with our entrees. It's the little details, like chilled martini glasses, hot bread, attentive service and great music, that has us jonesing already for our next trip back.

Took my wife there for our anniversary last year. Upon walking in, the hostess asks me if we are there for a special occasion. They took care of us the whole time. Excellent service, food, wine, and atmosphere. It's pricey, but absolutely worth it. I'll definitely be back soon. Unquestionably the best all around dining experience we've had in Austin over our seven years of residence here. You can't go wrong there if you want an outstanding experience. We still talk about it and it's been a year later.

Eddie V's is the best restaurant in Austin - hands down. Don't get me wrong, you will spend a good amount of money while you dine here, but it is always worth every penny. The wait staff are very knowledgeable, the dishes are spectacular, and you can't beat the ambience. It is a great place for a group to go and dine or to have a romantic dinner. My wife and I love this place.

The food at Eddie V's is outstanding! I am an extremely picky eater and I tend to ""adjust"" all my meals (sauces tend to be too creamy and veggies are too white). However, when I go to Eddie V's, I feel like I get what I want and if I am not sure, the waiters are always extremely knowledgable and excellent at explaining each dish. Their wine selection is excellent too!

If pricy menu, tiny portions, average taste and noisy environment are your favorites, you will enjoy Eddie V's Arboretum location. I recently had dinner there. It was very difficult to hear each other without shouting. My shrimp plate had 4 medium size shrimps and my friend had 4 average size scallops. Both were $20 main dishes without vegetables or potato/rice. Luckily we ordered a few side dishes and desserts so we were not that hungry at the end of dinner.

I have eaten at the Austin Arboretum location several times and have been pleased with the food. The most recent time, I sat in the bar and ordered the seafood salad, which was supposed to include lumb crabmeat, shrimp, and scallops in addition to the other salad ingredients. I was very disappointed. First, there was one shrimp, cut in two pieces, on my plate. Second, there were three scallops. One was medium-sized, and the other two were very, very small. Lastly, there was no crabmeat at all in my salad. When I pointed out this omission to the server, she brought me a small serving of crabmeat. The amount of shrimp and scallops and crabmeat were, in my opinion, very insufficient for the price of the salad, which was around $14. This experience has caused me to have serious reservations about this restaurant. I doubt that I will return.

We have been to Eddie V's often in the past, but this was our first visit in about a year. This place is no longer what it used to be, the food has gone downhill. I would recommend going to Trulucks The colossal stuffed shrimp have no flavor and are comparable to Red Lobster only it is $25.00 for four at Eddie V's. The bacon wrapped scallops, while being prepared well, are small about the size of a half dollar, and four is not filling especially since your meal doesn't come with sides you have to pay extra for those. We will not be going back since we had our meal with appetizers and were still hungry. The waiter was polite and took the charge for the shrimp off the ticket since they were not edible. But overall not worth the money!!!!!!!!!

It's a great place to eat... however, I've found it to be a little on the inconsistant side. The carpetbag steak is decent. The quality of meat is good, but the preparation is very dull. The sauces are also very average. However, there are still a handful of dishes very worthy of trying. The fish is usually prepared very well. Appetizers are also fine-tuned and tasty. Still a highly recommended place.

I absolutely love Eddie V's - both locations! This place has WONDERFUL food and a great atmosphere. I prefer to go down town because of the piano background and more room, but the Arboretum is the regular and is just as good. That sea bass will make you cry - it is SO good!

Don't go here if you are on a budget. This place serves seafood mostly - meaning you pay for the quality. I actually think Eddie V's has some of the best fried calamari (they serve it with a tasty salad on the side) that actually makes you feel like you aren't eating something so bad.
If you are on a budget, but want to splurge a little, go during happy hour. Some of their best dishes (crab cakes, calamari) are half priced. Drinks are $1 off.
Do check your bill pretty carefully if you go during happy hour - sometimes they don't register the right prices.
I would recommend this place if you are splurging and want very good seafood.

We recently went into the Eddie V's Arboretum location & ""WOW"" what an awesome time!!! The complimentary valet outfront, the very gracious host staff, the fun yet romantic bar atmosphere & then the dining room - quant, romantic, & upbeat all in one. The food was superb, the waitstaff attentive & the management extremely polite & friendly. I would recommend this place to anyone & everyone. Go for the calamari (app) & the snapper w/crab or steack oscar (entree) & all the sides are awesome too. Don't forget the dessert - Godiva (to die for) cake.

My wife and I decided to check the Eddie V's location in the Arbor, knowing this was one of our ""special"" places when it was Brio Vista. My first impression was OH MY GOD what have they done to the place, it was full of light and open now it is like a Chicago Chop House. After having trouble to get a Kir Royal at the bar having to wait for 15 minutes until someone payed attention.
However, the wait staff in the restaurant section was very attentive and helpful. The food OH MY GOD fantastic! Prices are kind of high (specially on the wine menu), but at the end it was great. So the restaurant could win a lot by restoring the old ambience, but the food is excellent! So next time I will go to the place downtown, because it all about the food people.... Franz

There has been a lot of Eddie V bashing lately, so we were a bit reluctant. But we loved their happy hour and recently received a gift certificate so why not?

All I can say is I'm glad we did. It was a packed Saturday night but the service ws not compromised in the least. Our waiter was excellent offering us tastes of wines by the glass and confidently pointing us towards (and away from) our choices in wine, salad, entree, and dessert. What can I say he was right on every time. The warmed goat cheese salad was excellent. Steamed sea bass in ginger soy sauce and breaded fish in lemon butter w/ lump crab were great. And the warmed gooey Godiva chocolate cake was among the best ever.

Maybe we got lucky or the stars were aligned... or maybe others were unlucky, but I'd highly recommend this restaurant.

Something is going on at what used to be one of Austin's best resturant. Last Friday night the service really sucked. Some very un-professional waiter botched up the entire evening, on Valentine's day no less. Too bas cause the foos was very good.

Service was slow.
Too expensive for what you get.
Sauces over power the food as opposed to compliment it.
$23.95 for 5 shrimp and no sides (need I say more?)
The food, service and value is far superior at Trulux. I would recommend that you go there for a GREAT seafood meal.
