I like Hank Haney's Golf Ranch because you can play the 9 holes after work in the summer and be done pretty quick. It is challenging but most are par 3's and some par 4's. They really used the natural lay of the land to set the holes so they work really well. The greens are always really nice and the fairways do get a little brown but still play well. The fees are very very reasonable and would be a great place to take a beginner golfer.

Like Haney's McKinney (or is it Plano?) layout, this nine-holer uses the land as it is and comes up with a great practice facility. And I mean the course, not the range! I love nine-hole courses, so this was right up my alley. But once you get back into the trees, it gets kinda muggy and the conditions will test you as much as the holes. It's short par 3's and tight 4's, with little chance to pull out driver. Only problem I've ever had was taking my grandson, who gave in to the humid conditions and refused to play the last few holes. But when I was through he was ready to hit balls on the range . . . when you TRY to hit them over the water. Fun place to knock it around.
