As a member of the place, I think I can give the most honest opinion of the place. It stinks. First of all, their selection is laughable, especially the new Audrey Beck building. Second, they treat patrons like pure crap. They had a bunch of monthly parties earlier this year that were poorly organized, and they treated people like deviants and cattle instead of tru patrons of the arts. Go to the Menil instead, this place is the Astroworld of museums.

This is a very very nice museum. Also, check their website because they offer a free day. I want to say Thursday, but I am not sure. You can spend half a day in here and just lose time. They have great displays and they change things around often.

This museum has an amazing collection of art work, and I think it is not given the credit it deserves. It frequently has world class exhibits, such as the crown jewels or Egyptian treasures. It also puts together unique exhibits, such as its recent tribute to baseball. On Thursdays, I believe, it is free because a local company takes care of all admission fees on that day. This is definitely a worthwhile stop!

You can go here and see wonderful artists on display. They focus on the classic artists as well as more modern artists. Even with all of the school groups touring, it still has a very peaceful atmosphere.

They have a lot of tour guides who can explain everything or you can just ask one of the museum employees.

Houston has nothing to be ashamed of in its primary fine art facility. We may not be New York, but you can still see a Van Goh, a Mondrian, a Picasso, a Rembrandt you name it any afternoon of the week. For members, there are great afternoon lectures to introduce shows or exciting new acquisitions. Also don't neglect the MFA movie program, here's a place to see the films that get missed by the other arthouse theaters in town.

I would recommend that everyone visit the museum at least once. It is a very interesting experience. They offer films, special exhibits from various cultures, and admission is always free on Thursdays. Among the types of art displayed are modern art, contemporary, abstract, and others. The staff were very friendly and helped us nagivate the buildings to find the art in which we were interested.

As with anything in the art world, some of it's great, some of it's not, and some is just plain weird. They rotate out their exhibits every so often, and it's free to get in (though you're welcome to donate). Check out some of the Warhol and impressionist stuff.

For Houston, this is a good museum - they frequently host charity benefits and showcase new and old artists' work alike. They also host art classes for kids during the summer, and have workshops for the more experienced artist. It's not a huge museum, but it's architecturally interesting and always has a collection worth seeing.

Houston Texas Museum of Fine Arts houses a wide array of fine art. The gallery is beautiful; and exquisite. There is a small fee to enter the museum, but it is well worth it. It is a great place to see sculptures, paintings, drawings. It is a nice museum, and makes for a great family day field trip.
