Stevens Pass has great skiing and I have never had an experience there where it is overcrowded. It has a variety of levels of skiing for downhill skiers and the customer service is great.
4Stevens is a pretty cool spot to come if Crystal is packed or has crummy snow. Stevens has a sweet terrain park and a sweet pipe. The price to ski is a bit steep, in the $45 range, so make sure the snow is worth is. Check out the back side of the mountain for some nice cliffs and deep powder stashes. Stevens has a nice range of accommodations if the situation requires you to stay on the mountain. Restaurants and coffee stands are numerous and good as well, especially the pizza joint in the main lodge.
PROS: Good value, nice people, nice facilities.
CONS: A little on the expensive side, relatively low in elevation.

I learned how to ski at Steven's Pass 22 years ago. I still love this place. They are world class in my eyes. There runs are always groomed nicely and they build fun ski/board parks for those who like to practice tricks. I enjoy skiing at night because the lines are short. I always buy a pass prior to arriving at the mountain so I can park at the top lot next to Brooks chair. That way I can board down to the line. Steven's is at a higher elevation making the roads less than perfect conditions at times. Make sure you are prepared.
