.

to be fair, my coworker had an uneventful root canal by dr. wilson with no complaints. i have had several root canals by my fabulous endodontist in california, but i was unable to travel in time to take care of this one and was referred to dr. wilson.
right off the bat, he hit a nerve while administering the anesthetic, which was extremely painful. after the anesthetic, the rest of the procedure was okay.
upon returning for the completion of the procedure (i had never had a 2-part root canal before!), dr. wilson tried not to hit the nerve again - unsuccessfully - and to avoid hurting me seemed to give me less of the anesthetic. he then spent 40 minutes working on another patient so that by the time he got to me, most of the anesthetic had worn off. the entire procedure was excruciating, i could feel all the little files jabbing deep into my tooth. i was crying out, kicking the chair, tensing all the while. he kept asking if i wanted more numbing, and i'd say yes, but he didn't seem to stop and take the time to allow the novacaine to work. i never felt numb.
there was an assistant in the room, who sat there like a rock. she did not smile, speak, or show any sympathy at all, even when dr. wilson left the room.
believe me, i'm no wimp. i can take a certain amount of pain, having had so many procedures prior to that one, so it was disturbing that he continued without really making sure i was numb. he seemed to be a nice man, and did seem concerned that i was in pain, but didn't actually take care of me.
as a side note, it's been about 15 months and i now have to have that root canal re-done, as it was not completed satisfactorily and has become infected at the base of the root.
