The Cat and Fiddle is a very relaxed, casual place to hang out with friends, either inside at the bar or in a cozy booth, or outside at one of the many tables or sitting by the fountain. It gets rather hectic and crowded whenever England is playing soccer, but the energy of the crowd is worth it.
This store has probably the least informed, worst trained sales staff of any retail establishment I've ever been to. I was recommended accessories that did not fit the items I described to the salesperson. It took half an hour for me to check out $300 of merchandise, from the time I got to the counter. Then I had to return, because the clerk didn't know how to choose the best financing option for me. I ended up having to return, then repurchase, everything. I went back a couple days later to buya cell phone, and they could not complete my transaction because Best Buy Credit's computers were down. The salesperson looked only interested in getting me away, rather than apologizing for the inconvenience.
I will not be shopping at this Best Buy, even though it's the closest one to where I live. I will go twenty minutes out of my way to another Best Buy.
The courteous staff will go out of their way to help you find the book you need, and special order whatever they do not have on hand. If the volume you're looking for is not available even by special order, they will look up specialty bookstores in the area that may carry the book you're looking for. The store is a great place to go celebrity spotting. Jodie Foster, Cuba Gooding Jr., and Gene Simmons have all been spotted there.
Boardwalk 11 has karaoke 7 nights a week. The crowd ranges in ability to professional singers to people who've never sang in public before (and for a good reason), but one thing everyone has in common is lack of pretension. Everyone is encouraged tosing and have a good time. The drinks are a _little_ on the pricey side ($5.25 for a bottle of Sam.), but the friendly staff and good vibe of the place more than make up for it.
Barney's is the only place in LA I've seen where you have to stand in a line on a Wednesday night to sing karaoke. The beer selection is good, menu is extensive, and the food is pretty good, but the crowdedness sometimes makes it difficult to enjoy.
