I had been a gift certificate for their manicure & Pedicure. Let's just say as posh as it was, it was not relaxing at all. All the "hostesses" were young wannabe icequeens, wearing horribly matched black clothes (head to toe), the lay out was confusing, and there is one point that you shuffle throught the main lobby area (which is also the salon/makeup stations) in your robe and slippers! The foot bath was the most daunting contraption ever!!! The tub part was a miniature version of what the sports people use for injuries (oval metal tub) and the bubbly whirlpool thing looked like a speedboat motor. I was stuck sitting on a chaise lounger, with my legs twisted off to the side to "soak" and the whirlpool thing was so strong it would schlosh water out behind my knees, so I had to sit in this twisted position with my knees locked for what seemed like eternity. As nice as the nail technician (Kurtis) was, it's not worth another trip. They had a lovely body scrub which I picked up, but it was too snooty and too far of a drive for me.
PROS: nice products
I found many Israeli made shoes, reef flip-flops and surprisingly Earth brand. It's a very old fashioned run shoe store with very helpful / fun staff. It is a little bit hidden behind the next store's awning. Price point is regular retail.
PROS: lots of euro brands
CONS: hard to find on the street
This is a lovely line! It's refined enough for business wear but funky enough for lots of style! It's a bit of Club Monaco meets Zara. The sales are always really good! I have not bought anything full price and I'm proud of it, LOL!
PROS: Great sales
CONS: can be a bit expensive
Up until 2 weeks ago...Henri Bendel's WAS one of my favorite stores. I had a rather miserable experience with bitter associate at the T. LeClerc counter. In general the store carries wonderful items and the most gorgeous clothing.
PROS: Great high-end variety
CONS: needs to keep associates in check.
I love Marco! He is the ONLY person I've found that can deal with Asian hair. He's done a lot of work in Asia and is a real sweetie! Each appointment is taken seriously and it a great 0ne-on-one experience. He takes the time to listen to what you want and he's VERY hip and funky.
PROS: VERY accomodating
CONS: he's only one person :)
Takashimaya is a beautiful retreat in the middle of Mid-town. The shop has a beautiful floral department with to-die-for orchids and gardenias. The spa is well worth the money, for the personal experience without the crowds or being rushed out for the next client. Very boutique feel, but wonderful staff. There is a lovely tea cafe that was a nice treat.
I truly believe that the real thing is the best. My MIL likes to buy me the knock off designs, but ther is just ZERO comparison. Yes, simple silver jewelry at extortionate prices, but the quality is there. My Tiffany silver tarnishes differently than my cheapie NYC sidewalk stuff. Almost at a slower rate. The tiffany stuff looks better than the chap stuff tarnished or not. The service is hands down fantastic!! Not sure if Harold is still on the 2nd "silver Floor" but he was always just fab to work with.
PROS: quality items, friendly staff
CONS: can be expensive
Metropolitan is a top of the line car service that is just that....excellent SERVICE! I have used MTC for years and they have always been accomodating! The reservationist are alway cheerful and happy, the dispatchers and drivers are all well seasoned professionals. They are very responsive to feedback, good or bad! There is one thing to consider, they are a bit expensive, but well worth it if you're coming back from a long flight!
PROS: fast, friendly, will know your name
CONS: can be a bit expensive
It's mom and pop meets daycare center. It's a fantastic group who really adore my 11 month old. She's been there almost 9 months and she's really happy there. She's very attached to the teachers there and is kinda weird to drop her off in the morning and she's NOT freaking out. Weird in a good way, of course, LOL! They are a Jewish facility where they wil not serve meat to the children, but they have a nutritionist working with them on the menus for the kids. They can care for infants 6 weeks to toddler up to 3 yrs old.
PROS: very caring
CONS: can be lax on communication
This is a wonderful shop filled to the brim with wedding dresses, bridesmaid gowns and traditional Chinese Cheongsam (wedding dress). Nancy is the owner who reminds me of Joan Rivers back in the day before plastic surgury. She's a no frills Chinese business woman, but she has an eye for what looks good. I have to admit I had to stand my ground and be firm with her and some of her dress choices. They have fantastic wedding packages where you get a in-studio photo shoot (done before the actual wedding), 3 dress rentals, 2 tux rentals, hair and makeup, plus video and photos the day of the wedding for around $3,500. For me, I didn't care to buy a white wedding gown that I would really only wear once, I instead paid for my own Chinese dress to be made and rented all the other stuff.
PROS: Great value, very friendly
CONS: Can be pushy
