This place has fabulous cleaning services and tailoring services - their tailoring work is especially good and they're good with all fabrics - denim etc. They've also down nice work on some of my coats. I really trust them with anything - it is VERY expensive though.
PROS: Great tailor, Great dry cleaning, Trustworthy
CONS: High prices
This charming boutique located just off the beaten path in Sausalito contains a wonderful assortment of contemporary casual ladies clothing including lines like Cossabella, Sanctuary, Trina Turk, Teabags and many others. There is a variety of casual and more dressy clothing - they also have lots of sleepwear and loungewear. I am mostly amazed by the wonderful customer service which includes a MONEY BACK 7 day return policy - unheard of in women's boutiques and so generous. It really keeps me loyal to the store. Plus, no one there ever lies to you and tells you stuff looks good when it doesn't - you ALWAYS get the real story here with genuine feedback on what is flattering on your figure and what is not. It's like shopping with a real friend - not typical of SF boutiques. Jill, the owner, is a doll! A complete keeper!
PROS: Ambiance, Nice and genuine, sales associates, generous return policy
This store is sort of a waste of time. It has some cute things but EVERYTHING is so damn expensive. It got a lot of PR and buzz when it openend because some celebs were in town and shopped there. But I think the merchandise isn't that great to begin with - and it looks even worse when you look at the price-tags (examples: shirts are $300, handbags in the $500 range, janes all over $150). I was hoping for a great boutique in Russian Hill when this was announced and went right over - they seem to be getting better at having some variety in the prices more recently.
PROS: Nice decor and ambiance
CONS: Hit-and-Miss Merchandise and High Prices
I read about this woman in the DailyCandy and she is right around the corner from my office I went during lunch. The decor is minimal and nothing fancy - not a "spa-like experience." However, I got one of the best eyebrow waxes I've ever had here - certainly the very best in San Francisco - she is fabulous and is clearly a perfectionst at her job. She charges $30 which is about the same as most high-end places. She's the best, though, so you should go to her! (I can't comment on the other skincare services - facials, etc. - she has available)
PROS: Great eyebrow waxing
CONS: Sparse Decor (but who cares?)
This is a fabulous consignment boutique in San Francisco's Russian Hill! It carries a wonderful selection of clothing, handbags, shoes and outwear. This is a great place to either sell (you get 50% of what it sells for) or buy stuff. Like all consignment stores you need to do the work of looking through everything but the selection is great and the atmosphere nice. Sometimes items can seem to be a bit "high" in terms of price but Cris, the owner, is open to bargaining ... which I love. Cris is a sweet woman to talk to when the shop isn't slamming busy. I do not like manner of her grumpy husband who is sort of pretentious and, well, grumpy. Overall, though, it's a winner - this past weekend I bought a beautiful brand-new Banana Republic suede jacket for $89. I think that's a deal!
PROS: Great Selection of Consigment Goods, Small and easy to shop at
CONS: Sometimes prices can be a bit high
This is a trendy boutique in San Francisco's Marina District which sales men's and women's clothing that is trendy/hip/urban. Pluses are that it's small so easy to shop in. Negatives are their lousy return policy (10 days, store credit only) and REALLY aggresive sales people who are clearly on commission. The worst salesperson is the owner, Lee, who will tell you that a garbage bag looks nice on you if it makes his cash register starts ringing. They have a nice selection of jeans (Seven, Citizens, Blue Cult, James, Joes) - otherwise I think their stuff is mediocre and over-priced so be careful. Especially don't take Lee's advise on what looks good and what doesn't - Yuck!
PROS: Selection of Blue Jeans, Men's and Women's clothing
CONS: Pushy salespeople clearly working on commission
From the perfect Eastern ambiance, to the welcoming hostesses and bar, to the fabulous food - this is my absolute favorite sushi restaurant in all the Bay area (and I've eaten at them all!). This restaurant is seriously perfection in Japanese dining. Nothing in the city comes close and it is well worth the drive in.
PROS: Ambiance, Decor, Service, Food, Bar
At one point back in 1996 Vogue featured this place in an editorial about the country's best salons but my experience said otherwise. Basically, there aren't alot of quality salons in Austin and so this one still gets hyped - they still highlight the Vogue piece on their website 9 years later!!!!! However, today the staff is totally hit or miss and you need to be really careful about who you get here. My friends say they've had GREAT cuts here and so I just called and booked an appointment with the first available person. The result was a really REALLY bad haircut for $65 - way too expensive for a really bad haircut. I'm sure there are talented people here - but avoiding the lousy ones is a challenge. They have a GREAT product selection though and the vibe of the place is fabulous.
PROS: Great product selection, Cool decor, Great vibes
CONS: Hit or miss service, Bad cuts
This is a hair salon and day spa in Austin. Overall, I wasn't impressed. I just don't feel that they concentrate in anything and so every service is just 'eh.' I didn't get a great haircut or anything here. The inside feels very cluttered with products and plants and just lots of stuff .... and not very clean. It's not terrible but I think there are better places.
PROS: Cluttered, Not that Clean, Services are not so great
CONS: Wide variety of services
I moved out of Austin 2 years ago but I'll never forget my days at Jackson Ruiz. First of all, Austin is a town that thinks its much better than it is and many salons there label themselves as "all that" but they are really lame when compared to big city hair salons in NY, LA, etc. HOWEVER, Jackson Ruiz is not that way. Jackson Ruiz is a total world class hair salon - from the friendly receptionists to the friendly and accessible staff to the very high high quality services to the beautiful layout of the place and convenient location, you will not be disapointed by a thing at Jackson Ruiz. It is the ONLY place to go in Austin and one of the best hair salons I've ever been to anywhere.
PROS: friendly receptionists friendly and accessible staff, great services
