Four of my co-workers and I decided to have lunch there today. First the waitress tried to sit us at a table for 4 insisting she would "pull up" a 5th chair on the end. (Guess she isnt aware this is against fire-code.) We requested a larger table and were finally seated at 2 tables next to each other, so our group of 5 was split up. Not a big deal, we were still close enough to chat.
The decor and atmosphere is wonderful. Everything is so beautiful. But the entire place smelled terrible, like a gas or sewer leak.
Our drink and food orders were taken quickly. Then we made our way to the salad bar buffet. The basics were there, tomatoes, bell peppers, croutons, but cheese, bacon bits and shredded carrots would have been nice too.
The food took a while to come out. The waitress apologized for it taking so long. Finally she brought our food. One of my co-worker's burgers was wrong. She requested no barbecue sauce, but there it was, right on top. The waitress even noticed this as she sat the basket down, so she took it away with her and told my co-worker that she would be right back with a new one.
The rest of us continued to eat, as we have a fixed time alotted for lunch. As the last of the 4 with food finished eating, her burger was finally brought out. She asked for a To-Go box and was told they dont have any. She explained to the server that everyone was finished and we were ready to leave and she needed something to take her food in. The server brought back a piece of foil. She wrapped up the food in the basket and we all proceeded to the cashier. Our server ran up behind us and said "she's not going to let you take that basket!" grabbed the bag from my co-woker and went to the manager at the cashier station.
The manager did not seem concerned when the situation was explained, her only concern was her basket. She tried to charge my co-woker for her meal, which she hadn't been able to even sample at this point. I stepped in and asked if she was really going to charge her after such a horrible experience. After a moment, she decided she would not charge her after all, and she let her take the basket.
When I pulled out my card to pay, she said it would be $8 instead of the usual $5. She said as of November 10th, 2008, there was a price increase. I paid. But I do think a notice should have been posted to alert the customers of a 60% increase in the price.
This was my 2nd time to dine at Harwood 609. My first experience was even worse, but I thought I'd give them a 2nd chance. There is so much potential for this lovely looking restaurant. Too bad they cant get a good staff to pull it all together....
