Staples is an overwhelmingly overstocked surplus store with aisles upon aisles of home and office supplies. They carry any item imaginable and offer fax and printing services as well.
However, despite their expanse of items, their prices are nothing to write home about. They are extremely overpriced for being somewhat of a surplus store and the sales they do have aren't much better.
The staffers in the fax area are very helpful though and I was assisted with all of my needs at the time of my visit to their newly renovated store.
PROS: huge assortment/selection
CONS: very pricey
Save A Lot is a great resource for quality food items at a fraction of the cost of regular grocery stores. Many people are turned off by "generic brand" foods but I, being a poor college student, embrace the savings any chance I get.
I have gotten cart loads of food for under 50 dollars and all the items were fresh, not past expiration, and delicious as any other brand name items.
My one complaint is that one carton of ice cream I purchased was covered with ice crystals when I opened it and tasted horribly of freezer burn, so I assume the product had been sitting around in the store for a while. Other than that, the items are really great for super low prices.
PROS: cheap cheap cheap!
CONS: some items may sit around longer than others
Super Fresh is a good store to pick up groceries if you're not strapped for cash or looking for sales. Their prices are relatively high.
They have a "fresh food" bar/deli area which offers such foods as potato salad, coleslaw, and salads made fresh daily. They're not appetizing though they look very pretty behind the display cases.
Aside from their prices/food...I've had one terrible experience at checkout. Once I had loaded ALL of my items onto the conveyor and was presented with the total amount to pay, which was over $100.00, I was told they were not accepting DEBIT CARDS! Give me a break. Not only did I not have cash on me, but I had to put my OWN groceries back where I got them and leave the store empty handed.
Because I was so displeased and upset after having spent at least two hours in the store doing my "big shop," I faxed the main headquarters and have not since received a response. This was over 5 months ago and I have never been back since.
While Wal*Mart is a great place for savings, the atmosphere is one that can definitely turn a lot of customers away. Not only is everything messily placed on the shelves and spilling onto the floors, but the lines are always entirely too long and the staff entirely too shorthanded.
The workers are utterly miserable, the scene is chaotic and I really only go when it is out of absolute necessity. Saving is great, but I'd rather go to Target.
The only positive thing is Wal*Mart's addition of self checkout lanes, making it somewhat easy to bypass the hectic lines and crabby staffers.
PROS: cheap, close to home
CONS: miserable staff, dirty aisles
I shop at the Academy Shopping Center Rite Aid weekly and have always had a good experience in doing so. Often they have great sales and clearances areas offering discounted prices on rather expensive goods.
I buy most of my toiletries at Rite Aid such as shaving creams, soaps and deodarants, and I take advantage of their huge magazine selection.
Most of the staff are teenagers and the service is mediocre at best, sometimes no "thank you's" or "you're welcome's" but I guess that is to be expected.
However, after having to return multiple items to the store last night (due to misplaced sale signs/wrong prices), I was nothing but pleased at ther cashier's courteous refund of my money, which was about $20.00.
Aside from some general messy areas (to be expected, I guess), my neighborhood Rite Aid is a good, quick stop for essential items at a good price.
PROS: close proximity, good sales
CONS: unfriendly cashiers, misplaced advertisements
China Gate is a great local stop for delicious Chinese cuisine for take out, delivery, or to dine in. A nice dining room adds to the atmosphere of the eatery, but like most people looking to get away with not cooking, when I order, I have it delivered to my home.
The menu is extensive but I recommend the General Tso Chicken combination with their yummy pork fried rice and crispy egg rolls. My favorite!
All items arrive steaming hot and ready to devour and best of all, their delivery time is fast and efficient. If you're in the neigborhood or just want to try a new Chinese joint, definitely call them up and enjoy an affordable and delicious meal.
PROS: Yummy menu, fast delivery, good service.
Jillian's restaurant is hardly just the place to get good eats at an affordable price. Inside, you can find a full bowling alley, Hibachi grill, and full arcade game room, as well as small nightclub and outdoor eating deck.
Jillian's offers the best in American fare from burgers to chicken to nachos and french fries as well as a stocked bar perfect for happy hour or a night out with friends.
When finished eating, head over to the bowling alley to play a round with the gang, and if you're lucky and it's a weekend, be prepared to dance along to the DJ spun tunes at glow bowling!
If bowling isn't your thing, swing over to the huge assortment of arcade style games for tickets which can be traded in for small and large prizes depending on how many you earn. The fun doesn't stop at Jillian's, no matter day or night.
The only downfall is the wait time for a bowling alley (mostly on nights and weekends) as well as their overpriced fees for actually playing a game, which is understandable seeing as the facility isn't your typical corner-store lanes.
Lastly, as an added bonus for the "older crowd," after 10 P.M. no one under the age of 21 is permitted on the premises and the facility is turned into a sort of 21 and up night which is great for those looking to get away from the sort of childish mall-like atmosphere.
Also, be sure to try their towering chocolate cake. Share it with friends, though, it's huge!
PROS: Bowling food, and games all in one place!
CONS: Long wait times, overpriced bowling.
Everyone loves a bargain and Target knows that and appeals to its customers in every way possible. Target offers any product one might need all under one roof! You can find everything from electronics, shampoo, socks, makeup, magazines, books, kitty litter, motor oil, frozen pizzas, to bedding, flip flops, capri pants, and school supplies. Target is just that great. On top of having just about everything, Target has its own line of affordable "off-brand" items for customers looking to save even more, and they market these brands with hip and trendy eye-catching designs and clever, thoughful packaging at a percentage less than regular name brands. Target rarely has huge lines forming at checkout seeing as they have rows and rows of cash registers waiting to assist customers with their every needs. Also, if you're the type to work up an appetite shopping, Target has an in-store Pizza Hut offering all kinds of delicious pizzas, breadsticks and fountain sodas to get you through the day. Target is beautiful and impeccably clean and always offers a great and affordable shopping experience.
PROS: Price checkers on selected aisles, weekly sales and savings, frozen foods!
A.C. Moore is your one stop shop for an affordable expanse of arts and crafts ranging from paints, blank t-shirts, blank tote bags, scrapbooking needs, stickers, knitting goods, and framing. Each store offers aisles filled with colorful paints, any and all artwork needs (canvases, easels, brushes) as well as anything you would think of or need to make your own crafts at home. All items are easy to locate and pretty affordable. A.C. Moore is perfect for a day of shopping with family and friends as there are plenty of offerings for folks of any age. The staff is very helpful locating items and is always pleasant and cordial at check out. I visit this A.C. Moore almost weekly and have never had any problem with the staff or items.
PROS: Affordable, great selection, helpful staff, offers examples!
Marshall's is my #1 source for designer label clothing at afforable prices, often going for 75% less of retail list price. Each store offers a huge selection for any occassion, be it prom, wedding, baby shower, party wear, or workout gear! Their shoe and accessory departments are extensive beyond belief, most often separated by color and style, and always by size. Each store offers both men's and women's clothing ranging from Juniors to Plus Size to Big And Tall (Men) and children's clothing and accessories as well. There is a huge housewears department offering anything from kitchen cutlery, spices and seasonings, to candles, picture frames and bedding. Their unique collection of painting and framed photos is an added treat if clothing isn't really your passion. All in all, Marshalls is the idea one stop shop for any occassion.
