This is the main venue in the area for large, stadium style shows. I tend to prefer smaller venues, but as far as big shows go, Coors has all of the amenities down. Lots of bathrooms, food, drinks, etc. It may be a bit pricey, and parking is dreadful if it has just rained, but all in all it is a great place to see a show.
I found this place shortly after I moved to North Park, and since then, I visit there almost every other week (whenever I have money). Pretty inexpensive, it usually costs around $30 for dinner for two, the menu is extensive. My recomondations: vegetarian fried wontons and panang curry that'll knock your socks off.
PROS: Panang Curry
M Theory has an atmosphere like every good record shop should: creative, a little too knowledgable, and disdainful of authority. They carry tons of vinal, CDs and DVDs, with a focus on local and up-in-coming acts. They also occasionally host local bands at the store and sell tickets to some of the smaller concerts in town.
This store had some of the cutest, most beutiful glass and woodwork I have seen in a long time. Definitely quirky and colorful, the shop carried everything from hand-blown vases to jewelry to furniture to statues. The staff was also incredibly helpful and friendly.
The Museum of Man focuses its exhibition space on displaying artifacts of humanity's past, from the Ice Age to the present. Of particular interest are the Mayan and native Mexican exhibits which include reconstructions of huge megalithic stones and a lady who makes fresh tortillas and quesdillas (which are almost worth the admission price by themselves). Other highlights include a large mummy exhibit and other rotating shows. My only complaint is that, after tromping all over Balboa Park, the Museum can be a bit hard on the knees and rather tiring because of all of the stairs, even for the most fit of museum goers.
Sport Chalet has a pretty wide selection of sporting goods, geared toward amateurs as well as more hardcore sport nuts. I particualarly liked their selection of snorkeling and scuba equipment (much larger than most big sporting goods stores). Pricing was about average, though there are some good deals if you look for them.
Mirandas has some of the most fun and unique garden decorations I have ever seen. Specializing in terra cotta, they have hundreds of flowerpots, statues, birdbaths, windchimes, and other decorative pieces, all revolving around the themes of the American Southwest and Baja. Even if I'm not planning to buy anything, I often just stop in after shopping in Old Town to wander around the courtyard and see what cool little statues might be hiding out there. Another big plus is that they are usually open late, for the evening gardening and landscaping crowd.
PROS: Open late
CONS: Parking is always a hassel in Old Town
Whaley house is considered one of the most haunted houses in SoCal, and possibly the country. In addition to the standard historical tours available, the museum also offers special ghost tours, particularly around Halloween, in conjunction with the Old Town Trolley "Ghosts and Gravestones" tour. As far as historic places go, this one has a lot to offer, and the curatorial staff make it interesting and fun, as well as educational. Definitely a must see for anyone who likes to get a little spooked.
My first trip to this doctor was this winter with a narsty virus. The staff was very pleasant and helpful, walked me through all of the insurance stuff as well as all of the new patient questionaires. This was also one of the few doctors I could find that was taking new patients at the time. The office was clean, and there were one or two families there with small children. All in all, one of my better doctor's office experiences I have had in a while.
I worked for Ultimate off and on for about a year, and they were consistantly quick to call me back, helpful in making sure assignments went well, and sensitive to my interests in finding me assignments. They speciallize in clerical and administrative placement, typically temp-to-hire. However, they were incredibly flexible with me, as I was temping in addition to another job. Great to work with.
