Who said healthy food can't be delicious and exciting? No the people at the better Health Market. This is a full grocery store stocked with lean cuts of meat, isles of produce, fresh baked goods that are out of the ordinary and isles of canned and boxed good that are good for you.
If you're looking for a particular healthy food, this is a good place to start. They occasionally have nutritionists and health seminars int he store and the staff is always on hand for questions.
PROS: Large vareity of healthy foods.
Be forewarned: before you grab your coat and a good book to head over and enjoy a steamy hot cup of fresh coffee, think again. This quaint coffee shop is gone. It's unfortunate that main street lost it's coffee shop. In it's place is a golf shop.
If you are still looking for a spot to have that relaxing cup of java, there is a Starbucks just across Commerce or a bit further down in Highland are Zaydee's and It's a Grind coffee shops. The latter 2 are small shops with the occasional live music and the big comfy chairs.
CONS: Sorry to see this business go!
The Fisher Theater is an exciting place to see a live performance. We have been there for a number of events and I always enjoy being there. It feel like you are taken back in time and are reliving a part of Detroit history.
Parking and walking through the streets of Detroit isn't always fun, but we have taken a limo there before and that works out nicely because you are dropped off at the door and can enjoy one of Detroit's many "hot spots" without being harassed or scared on your way in.
The ticket staff and ushers have always been courteous and helpful.
I was skeptical at first glance of the Magic Bag. It is a reformed small theater that is now an open area with a few tables. It is small and the decor is nothing to write home about, but they have a fantastic 80's band that plays and is SO worth the $10 cover charge. They put on a long, totally entertaining performance and even had 80's graphics on a background screen.
The crowd was made up of 20 and 30 somethings and it was a nice atmosphere to hang out in. Lots of surrounding places to go for food and drinks in Ferdale as well.
PROS: Great live 80's band!
Back in the day, this used to be THE theatre to go to. My grandma always took me there and it was fun and exciting. Now it is a run down place in need of some remodeling. To look at it, you would assume that it would be a dollar theater. It is old and small compared to the newer mega theaters going up everywhere. Their movies aren't exactly he latest releases either.
So why would you pay a few cents less to see a movie at a theater like this? I don't know, but I won't. I would consider going there if they lowered the prices to match the feel of the theater.
PROS: Poor conditions for the price.
The people in this gas station have to be the friendliest around. They make me feel welcome and though they don't know me by name, they recognize me when I walk in and they treat me like I'm a regular. I like that and it makes me feel like I am in a small town and it feels very quaint.
Maybe on a more important note though, they also have cheaper gas than almost any surrounding gas station. I try to fill up whenever I am in the Walled Lake area.
They also stay quite busy with car repairs, though I have never had service done there.
PROS: Hometown feel; cheap prices.
I wouldn't recommend this gas station/store because it consistently has the highest gas prices around. In my opinion, this is probably due to it's location near the mall and other shopping in the area.
The store itself is rather small and the bathrooms are not acceptable.
In addition, the car wash is always having problems.
I always try to get my gas at a cheaper station before I get near the mall.
CONS: Expensive Gas.
I guess it depends how fashionable you ant to be and how much you want to pay for it. Lane Bryant has always been my favorite shop for plus sized clothing because it is high quality and can stand up to many many washings and without wearing out.
They are a little pricey, but it is worth it for the quality of the clothes.
Fashion-wise, they go through phases. They try to keep up with current trends and that's OK as long as the store isn't full of hip hugger, mid-drift tops and too many sheer materials.
I like to shop there, i just shop carefully to make sure the I'll be able to wear the clothes beyond only one season and that I will be covered in all the right places.
PROS: Quality clothes that last.
CONS: Pricey and sometimes too trendy.
Nice, clean well-lit store with a wide range of animals. The salt-water fish tanks are especially cool.
Asking for help is another thing though. Workers are hard to find if you have questions or need help buying the animal of your choice. We were there to buy a bird once and it took more than an hour to find someone, have them clip the wings, find a box to carry the bird home in, etc.
Aside from the employee problem they seem to have, it is a good store to shop in and a great store to browse through.
And adult Chuck E Cheese is an accurate description. There is also an upstairs bar and bowling alley. It is pricey, but it's also something different and that is always good. For West Siders, Dave and Busters and Gameworks are too far to travel, especially if your friends are drinking. Lucky's offers a place on this side of town where adults can hang out and have fun. Collecting tickets and cashing them in is a little cheesy for adults, but keep in mind that kids can play during daytime hours..
