I use comcast for both high-speed internet service and cable television. The installation process took over an hour, but that was because the cable box was hidden in my apartment buidling. (One tip, ask your custodian/landlord to show you where the box is in your apartment so the process goes quicker.) I have yet to encounter any problems with either my internet or my cable.
This places has the most inconvenient hours. Most days, it's not even open until the afternoon and it's closed by the time most people get home from work. Additionally, this is an extremely small branch with a horrible selection of books. Good luck being able to find this place open and finding the book you need. I've never been able to do it.
I love Jo Anns and they're my favorite place for crafts supplies. No matter where I am in the country, I never fail to shop Joanns - even online. The Emeryville Jo Anns has a fantastic selection of everything from fabric to basic crafts gear. I have never had problems shopping here. They have some great scrapbooking supplies and embelishments.
I don't own a car, but my boyfriend and I wanted to take weekend trip to wine country. But since we're only 21, it was difficult to find a company that would rent to us. Even though Enterprise is much more expensive than some other rental companies (and even more expensive for people under 25), the entire trip was still cheaper than joining one of those bus tours.
When I found out that I was moving to San Francisco for a few months, I emailed CORT to see what their furniture options are. I was contacted right away with detailed information. They also followed up with my inquiry when I did not respond after a few days. They have some beautiful furniture and you can even rent a complete set of kitchenware including plates, silverware and cookware.
I wish there was a target closer to San Francisco, but unfortunately there isn't. Target stores are always stocked with anything you could need - from cheap clothes to electronics, houseware and much more. This is definitely the place for one-stop shopping. The service could be better - the last time I went, I was forced to wait 20 minutes just to pick-up a tv.
Planned Parenthood offers much needed family planning services to women (and even men!) of all ages. The Planned Parenthood in San Francisco is in high demand so you definitely need to call ahead of time to schedule an appointment. They offer services from birth control options to STD testing and everything in between. If you're low or no income or have no health insurance, you may qualify for free services.
If I am in a hurry, I always call up Big Dog City for a cab. It usually only takes about 5 minutes (no more than 10) for them to send a cab over. I have never had any problems with any of their drivers. They also offer advanced airport reservations if you know when you're leaving and need to preorder a taxi. They're a great cab company!
Just call 1-888-321-TAXI if you need service.
If you've got a bowling itch, this is one of the only bowling centers in and around San Francisco. However, don't expect the Presidio Bowling Center to make up for this deficit. The tables and chairs would be more appropriate in a high school caffeteria than a bowling center and there aren't that many lanes available either. It also costs more than your average bowling center. But, if you need to bowl, there's really no alternative and bowling's really more about bowling than the furniture anyways.
This is my dry cleaners. Not only have I never had a problem with them (they have excellent service and I have never had any trouble with their service), but they also do custom tailoring and alterations and finished laundry. This is also where I take my dresses and pants to get them fitted.
