I had some jewelry (gold) that I either never wore or completely forgot about. I figured with gold at 1100 bucks an ounce, now would be the time to sell it. I was worried about scams, but I still wanted to get a good price for my gold. I was skeptical that a jeweler in a mall, especially the Fashion Show Mall would be able to even match what I was getting quoted off-strip. But, a friend of mine recommended Michael and said she had been buying there for many years, at his current location and his previous locations. I went with no expectations and I didn't have to sell the jewelry so if the quote was lower than what I was given already, I would just walk away. I was very happy (and surprised) when he beat my previous quote ("he" meaning Michael Minden). It was a pleasant, quick and easy transaction - definitely five stars.
Job: Remove 8 year old Ash, roots and grind stump so I could plant a new tree in same location
Work done: removed tree and took away, removed two out of three major roots that had surfaced and left majority of stump in ground.
Pros: True to estimate ($200) and did work quickly with a minimum of damage to surrounding area.
Cons: They broke a sprinkler head, but worst of all because they left the majority of the stump, I could not plant a new tree in the remaining spot (which I indicated to them that I would do). Hired professionals to plant tree and they couldn't continue because of the large amount of stump left 4 inches from surface.
Other issues: Showed up an hour late. Advice: I would consider hiring them again, but I would be sure to be on site to watch their work. I watched them remotely from a USB camera via the Internet, but that doesn't allow me to inspect the site while they're working.
My resolution: I had to replant my tree in an offset location and didn't bother contacting business based on other posts (which I should have read first here on insider pages!).
So, I thought I could buy a bulb for an old video camera light over at Home Depot. I was wrong, but I still needed the bulb. I started asking around and everyone I talked to said, go see the bulb man. I checked them out and they had the EXX 250W 120V bulbs I needed...but not in stock. I was a little disappointed and started to do a search online. I figured if I had to wait for an order, I would probably found a cheaper price online. Well I was wrong about that too! They were very competitive on their pricing and had the bulbs in only a couple of days. I plugged those lamps in and they worked fine. Thanks Bulb Man!
PROS: They had the bulbs I needed at the right price.
CONS: Wish they were in stock. I hate to wait.
This restaurant is in a very easy to get to location - right on Eastern heading South, just off 215, but I can see how people might not be able to find it. So, first, if you're heading south on Eastern look for the sign on the left that says Sushi (as of 7/24/06)! Now, the important part: This family owned business has fantastic Japanese food. The service is also wonderful. I wasn't too daring and only tried the box with teriyaki chicken, veggies and sushi, but it was fantastic and very affordable. So if you're looking for exceptional, authentic Japanese food in a comfortable atmosphere give Koto a try. I'd give them world class, but I'm hoping to save it for when they grow into a bigger dining room.
PROS: Easy to get to, very good food, very reasonable price
CONS: Sits in a strip mall, so look for it, or you might pass right by
I've actually had a really good experience with just about every auto parts store in Las Vegas. The chains are surprisingly competent, but Charleston has a very solid reputation in the community and I found when I couldn't find something, other stores sent me here. The parts counter is very busy, but very friendly. Sometimes I go in knowing exactly what I need and it's name and purpose and sometimes I don't. Lately it's been the latter and they did a good job thinking creatively to help me solve my problem. I found the prices to be pretty much in line with the rest of the valley which means if you can wait, and you have a good internet supplier that you trust, buy it there.
PROS: Helpful and well stocked
CONS: Location is a little bit of a pain to get to
I like the convenience of this car wash, as far as location, but that's it's best point. It does get a lot of business, so even at night you could be sitting three cars deep waiting to get your car washed. The automated kiosk is easy to use and you can get a better deal if you buy in bulk. My main complaint is that the machine isn't always consistent and I've come out with a car looking worse than when it went in. Plus the car wash is in the back of a strip mall and although everyone tries to drive as carefully as possible, there's a really bad corner that I'm sure has been the scene of many accidents.
It's a place you can go to if you absolutely have to.
Not too many people own swamp coolers in Las Vegas, but people that have been here for a while, who know what they are and do love them, know that if it needs to be fixed, you're going to call King of all Coolers. King lives up to their reputation of being the best in the biz and have been around for a long time. The units are far less energy hungry than traditional central air conditioners so if you have a problem with yours, you should give King a call. They are friendly and responsive and worth repeat business.
The best thing this video store has going for it, is convenience. It's near a supermarket so it's easy to get a couple of things done. I'm not sure if they still have this policy, but they ask for your social security number when you join and that alone really should give them a wouldn't recommend. The video selection isn't nearly as good as the big chains. I always detected a weird smell every time I went in and it was generally not the cleanest place. On the positive side, the kids they had working in there were always really friendly and much unlike my local Hollywood, when they said hello when I walked in, I didn't feel like they were being forced to be friendly.
CONS: giving social security number a major minus
This restaurant has a very comfortable feel to it. It's decorated with a French country flair. You feel like you are having a meal at someone's house. The muffins are very good and the service was fast. It does get very busy on weekends, though, since nice breakfast places are hard to come by. They also serve lunch and dinner. Whenever you do go, make sure you don't miss the muffins!
This is a very friendly pizza place. It's clean and newer so it doesn't have that greasy pizza place feel to it. The pizza is pretty good by Las Vegas standards. Make sure you try the Garlic Knots; they are one of the best things they serve. The regular entrees are a little pricey for a pizza place, but the food is good.
