The Philadelphia Free Library is a historical landmark. It is a gorgeous building located just behind Logan Square. It is perfect for students researching and studying and entirely exceeds any University Library in the area. It has multiple copies of best sellers and New books and I rarely need to reserve any book I wish to check out when I visit this particular branch. The Library holds events throughout the year and brings authors in to speak free to the public. Overall, it is a quiet abode in the heart of the hectic city.
PROS: Quiet, Bountiful books and research material, Lovely staff
As an avid reader, I love that the Philadelphia Library has so many branches in different locations throughout the city. If they do not have a book they 99.9% of the time get it front another library. Their max amount of a fine is $15 and since I travel I often forget the due dates of certain books I have checked out. Unfortunately, I once returned a book a week after checking it out and the Library had held me responsible for replacing it since it had been misfiled without being scanned back into the system. It was eventually rectified, but I was slightly put off by this. At times when I enter the library- they seem understaffed and slow. The pile for return books mounts to large towers at times, so I can see how somethings can get lost in the shuffle. Although the selection is small, it is plentiful .
PROS: Wide selection, Can get books not at that branch delivered, Online reserves
CONS: Service is sure... but slow, Staff filing mishaps, understaffed
I formerly resided in this neighborhood and was pleasantly surprised that I was able to find such a lovely Health Food Store. Although, New World does not have the largest selection, it carries many well known health food brands and organic products. The store is extremely well kept and the prices are slightly high, but relative to the scarcity of Health Food stores here in the city. I would highly recommend any Health Food lover to stop by this store while in the area. Many small stores in the area are not well maintained, but this store has always exceeded my expectations.
PROS: Convinience, Clean, Good Products
CONS: Some prices are high
Regency is a first class choice for businesses needing to clean uniforms on a regular basis. My place of business employs Regency to clean our employee uniforms. We have always recieved prompt delivery and superior service from the owners. The messenger who transports the uniforms back to us does not stuff them into bicycle baskets or let them drag on the ground while walking to our place of business, as I have known some dry cleaning company employees to do. Whenever the owner brings our monthly bill to us, she always accompanies it with some sort of treat- cookies, candy. At Christmastime, she brought small gifts which is what makes the whole experience exceptional.
PROS: Fabulous owners, Service exceptional
After a camping trip left my ankle badly sprained I sought help from the Hospital of University of PA. I have never had a better ER experience. Although I did arrive quite early in the morning- I spent no more than 3 hours for my entire visit- including intake, billing consultation, physician inspection, X-Rays and discharge process. My intake was prompt and the doctors who reviewed me were friendly and informative. I have never had better care in an Emergency Room and have visited many over the course of years- having incurred many sports injuries in highschool and throughout college. The staff is responsive and equally compassionate which I find makes the entire experience so much more endurable.
PROS: Incredibly short wait, Excellent doctors on staff
Dahila's a fabulous store that has resonable prices and an astounding selection of Middle Eastern style jewlery and accessories. They have new merchandise quite frequently and is my aboslutely favorite jewelry store to shop at. If you are looking for unique necklaces, bracelets, etc. Dahlias is the place to go. I purchased a gorgeous bracelet for my girlfriend for her birthday and she was absolutely smitten with it. I would recommend this to anyone looking for accessories that are original and ethnic. The owner is also an incredibly friendly and helpful individual who has a great eye for what is fabulous.
PROS: Fabulous selection, Unique style
My experiences with Liberty Cab have always been delightful. Often during rush hour I am frantically calling different cab companies and comparing the waiting time. Liberty Cab has proved to always service me promoptly and I have not waited for a taxi cab from them for more than ten minutes. I have also summoned them to pick me up from restaurants and various locations that the dispacter is always familiar with. I have never had an unpleasant experience describing a landmark or address. They have always been able to contact the nearest driver and have been picked up very quickly. I have also never had trouble with the drivers- all very courteous and willing to help me with packages or baggage if the trip calls for it.
PROS: Prompt Service
I enlisted this cab company to transport me from the Mann Center into Center City. The driver of the cab claimed to be the owner of the company and proceeded to engage my girlfriend and I in conversation en route to my apartment. His arrogance was astounding and he spent the entire ride rattling off his financial investments and conveying the superiority of his company. Because I was so bothered by some of his remarks, I have chosen never to use this cab company again. Although I speculate that this man may have not been truthful in everything he said, I felt it inappropraite and unprofessional and it proved to be a greuling cab experience.
CONS: Arrogant driver, unprofessional service
Being a frequent user of cabs I am constantly trying to find a company that has courteous drivers and consistent service. City Cabs not only always seem to be available, but they have constantly and consistently proved to have friendly and courteous drivers. Two times I have been in need of being rescued from a summer thundershower, City Cabs have been available. They have always had the rules and regulations of city cabs instated by teh Philadelphia Parking Authority prominently displayed on their cab partition windows.
PROS: Availability, Courteous drivers
This small, yet so convinient hardware store is laid back and comfortable. It is absolutely superb in supplying the neighborhood with quality service, as well as reccomendations on products. Staff is knowledgeable and if they do not have what you are looking for, they are willing to order it for you. However, this is a small store. If you need very specific parts or pieces, you are better off hitting up Home Depot.
PROS: Convinience, Friendly, Always well stocked
