This is THE place to pick up Michigan Tech apparel and "souvenir" type items. Although I am not a student, my dad is an alumni of MTU and we live in the same city as MTU so I have done my share of shopping at this store, located in the Student Development Center. Is is a fair sized store with a wide variety of clothing options. I find their prices reasonable and have purchased several different shirts/tops for family members as gifts. The store is well lit, albeit a little on the crowded side. Tonnes of parking available. 8-5 everyday with weekends at slightly reduced hours (you can call to find out what the weekend hours are). I believe the store also carries some "bookstore" type items but I have never shopped there for those items so I can't say what kind of selection they have. Great staff and easy to exchange items when you buy the wrong size (found out from experience!).

PROS: Great variety, good prices, lots of parking
Our kids and our friends loved going here in the summer! We would usually just go for the day to let the kids play in the water park but our friends would also go camping there for a weekend at a time during the summer with their RV). There is a large assortment of water activities for kids of all ages. It is a bit more work to go with younger kids (for us as parents) but the wading pool is great for them to play in. Older kids (about 7 and up) have the most fun for the actvities available in the park ~ pools, slides, sprayers, etc. You can get changed there; it's a very clean park and not expensive at all. Remember to bring sunscreen and a snack; although, there is a snack bar available there as well.
PROS: Awesome water park on a hot summer day! family oriented!
This store is a corner-building store, surrounded by windows (which is both good and bad). We always enjoyed looking in this store because they had such a wide variety of paintings to enjoy. We loved the local artisans work and were always in awe of the Thomas Kinkaid originals/copies. The only reason we didn't buy anything here came down to 2 reasons ~ the main reason being that because there were so many windows, many of the art was in direct sunlight for the better part of each day. I was always amazed at the expensive artwork that would be facing windows head-on. I would never buy a painting or picture that was in direct sunlight! The 2nd reason would be partially due to the 1st... the price of the paintings that were in direct sunlight was too much to ask for pictures that were obviously being damaged by the sun. Nonetheless, there were many other paintings/photos that were not in the sun but we were only "browsing" when we looked in this store. They have a limited amount of parking outside.
This is THE place for football fans/fanatics. I am really neither but for the sake of my husband/male family members who were visiting, this was a good place to take them. For not knowing a lot about football, even I enjoyed this tour. There were various interactive displays that caught my attention. My husband and Father In Law were intrigued by the maniquin type chest-up forms of various hall of famers. We didn't bring our kids with us as they would have been too young but I imagine that a 9/10 year old would enjoy this place if they were into football. I don't remember when it is, but the HOF has some type of kick off day celebration each year when hot air balloons (LOTS) are sent up from the HOF in the morning. We LOVED watching those the years we were there!! If you are going, I know that the air balloon weekend is very very very busy so call ahead of time to make sure you can even get a hotel room!
This store has a large selection of frames and mats to choose from. The staff we were in contact with were quite good at helping us pick out the right mats to go with the 2 large pictures we had to get framed. We ended up getting only one picture framed as it cost more than we thought it would but the quality of their work/knowledge was enough that we would have gone back to get the 2nd one framed if we had lived in the area longer. It is a large sized store with a lot of light/high ceilings which helps in keeping colors looking bright (better for comparing colors/contrasts). There is a good amount of available parking as this store wouldn't normally be "full" of people. Great service!
PROS: Excellent quality
CONS: a little pricey
A beautiful old white turn of the century home with acres of landscaping surrounding it. A large portion of the land owned by the Hoovers was donated to Walsh University students for their sporting use. As my husband attended this school after we were married, we frequented the area often and this home once. I can't remember how much admission cost but it was comparable to any other walk-through type attractions. The house has been remarkably kept up and restored to its original elegance. Each room is decorated with original household belongings and antique decor from the period. Your tour host will give you the history of the Hoover family and ours answered quite a few questions that were aside from their regular tour. There is a huge parking lot to the left of the house so you don't have to worry about traffic. If, by chance, you are parked at Walsh University across the street, you can also access this home via the underground tunnel. Closed in the winter, so visit spring/summer/early fall! We really enjoyed it, especially since we lived there for 2 years and the Hoover factory is such a large part of this growing city.
PROS: Beautiful Home Tour/Antiques/Lots of Parking
I have had the opportunity to view Edith's baskets on a couple different occassions. She does beautiful work and offers such a wide variety of types and styles that there is something for everyone. Her prices are amazing considering all the hours that go into custom-made baskets. You would probably pay similar for factory made baskets from Pier 1 and they wouldn't look half as good as these. Edith works out of her home and also attends select craft shows in the area. Her baskets tend to sell quickly at the shows but she will take "orders" if you prefer to wait. I can't say enough good things about her work so if you are looking for a quality made basket with endless possibilities, give her a call! A+++
PROS: Gorgeous handwoven baskets, great prices
It was awhile ago that I went to Celebrations but have nothing but good things to say about them. The woman who helped me out had so many wonderful suggestions and was extremely friendly in genuine in all she had to say. I even found the dress I wanted at less than I expected to pay! This isn't a very big store but it is big enough for what it is. You can expect to have all the attention you deserve as a bride in preparation for your day!
What a wonderful variety of people attend Evangel Baptist! We have been attending this church about 3/4 of a year so far and plan to stay here as long as we are living in the area. Everyone has been so friendly and welcoming to us, right from the start. There are many families, college students, young-marrieds, single people, couples who have been married for years and years.... There truly is a great assortment of people who are currently at different stages in their lives ~ physically and spiritually. You can tell that this is a church where God is the focus of our worship ~ in songs and in the messages. Every 2nd Tuesday, MOPS is held during the morning. Our 3-year-old loves his class there as much as I enjoy going. Nursery is provided for your infants as well (although our 1 year old just stays with me when I get together with the other moms). Highly recommend this church ~ can't wait to meet you! :)
PROS: Christ-centered, Wide variety of families, students, singles, marrieds attend
If it is the "personal touch" that takes good to best, this is the place to go for your floral needs. We have purchased several different arrangements and our own choice-flowers at this store. I highly recommend them for any gift-giving type situation or for larger get-togethers (anything from dinner party to wedding). They have a nice selection of flowers, display pieces and other decorative type items. This is a family run business and with the owner(s) so involved, I believe that is why they have kept the personal element so well. Street parking out front is like everything else on main street; just depends on the time of day/time of year.
