I used B & L for the custom cabinets in my home. Gary was very helpful, professional, and did an excellent job. I work in construction so I've seen the quality levels of different shops and was really impressed with his work. Plus, I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted and he made several great suggestions.
Milgard was the supplier for the windows in the building of my house. They were very accommodating, especially when several of the windows were the wrong size on the plan and we had to change our order and receive the updated items in a hurry. I have had contact with them several times since then and they've been courteous every time. The only drawback to using them is that it's hard to get a hold of a service rep since they're so busy.
When I built my house, Oswego Drywall did the drywall as well as the painting. They were fine for drywall installation but I would NOT use them again for painting. The painters did a terrible job and complained when we asked them to fix it. The comment, "This isn't the Taj Mahal," was even uttered by one of them. I finally asked them to leave and not come back as it seemed to get worse each time they came.
CONS: Service, quality
I bought my flooring - carpet & tile - from this store. They had a great selection of things to choose from, however that is where the good experience ended. They gave me the wrong size tiles for my bathroom, but as I was under a time crunch, I had to change the design to work with what was received. Also, I cannot get the salesman to call me back with the warranty information.
CONS: Everything else
When I was building my house I picked out the stairway and moulding pieces at Woodcrafter's. They had a great selection and were very helpful in trying to make more decisions that I had bargained for. I have been so impressed with the quality of their product as well, the moulding in particular looks great.
PROS: Selection, customer service
I would not sell them items in the future, but they have a great selection if you're looking to buy. I turned in a bouncy seat in excellent condition and received only a small fraction of what I paid for the item. Next time, I'll see it myself. They do have a great selection of used toys, clothing, and misc items, but you have to really pick through it to find good deals.
CONS: Prices paid for consignment items
You might be better off looking for items at Target or Burlington Coat factory. The prices are average and the service varies. I had to exchange an item because they had charged me a different price than listed on the shelf and the transaction took 20 minutes. Also, it's hard to find anyone to help other than the cashiers. This store has been understaffed each time I've visited.
CONS: Staff levels
This Ace Hardware, while located in a small town, has a decent selection. I was able to pick up organizing supplies (plastic containers) in addition to my list of items for building a fence. The staff is very helpful and knowledgable regarding everyday projects and the store has nice displays.
I like the quality of the work this company did. They were quick to respond to my call and had great customer service skills in general. While somewhat expensive, the quality of work that they did made it well worth the price. Electrical work isn't something you want to skimp on.
