This is a great place to go on a date. You pick out an unfinished piece of pottery, then you paint it however you like using the store's supplies. Staff are really good at giving you tips on how to make a beautiful and functional piece of art.
This is just off the freeway, so the selection and prices are not that great. I'd only recommend it if you're on your way out of town and don't want to drive to a more reasonably priced place.
I've worked in a lot of public schools, and I must say that the ones in Santa Cruz are some of the best I've seen in terms of the breadth and depth of knowledge children recieve and the amount of resources available to them. I was also impressed by the very healthy and appealing lunch menu.
I'm such a shoe freak... I love this store. A good variety of uniquely stylish shoes, which often go on sale. I typically wouldn't buy shoes here at full price though, as they are a bit pricey for my shoestring budget.
The students here recieve a very well-rounded education, complete with theater classes and in-depth art lessons. They have beautiful facilities, indoor and out. I would say that many students here are a bit spoiled though.
I went in with waist long hair. I was looking for a change, and showed the stylist a picture of a woman with cute, short wispy hair. I don't know where the confusion lay, but I ended up with a bowl cut and horribly thick bangs that the stylist flat out refused to fix. I went home in tears and got another cut the next day.
If this were the last haircutter on earth, I wouldn't go back!!
Frankly there's a reason these people don't have their liscences yet. They need to practice first. And if you go here, they will get their practice alright... on your head. I came in here with a friend, and he came out with a pretty bad haircut that we had to go home and touch up.
I got a beautiful silk scarf here for only a dollar! You can feel good about shopping here too, because the profits go to AIDS prevention. The store carries a good selection of quality clothes.
Even snooty teenagers will think Alcatraz is cool! The night tour is great because it's just a bunch creepier. They even let you go inside a cell. It's also cool to see the sun setting over the water.
There are all sorts of marine animal wildlife being studied here, and there is a museum area that you can go in and check out. It's a great place to take kids, and doesn't take very long to visit-- perfect for an afternoon.
