Living in San Diego allows you to do many fun outdoor activities and one of them is taking advantage of Catalina Island! If you've not been there, then you need to take a trip there and enjoy the beautiful island! Catalina Express will take you to the island and bring you back! They have several different points that you can leave from, Dana Point is the closest and then it's Long Beach after that. I was really surprised at how easy it was to use this service. I've gone over on a day-trip and that made for a long day, but it was do-able and I've also gone for an extended weekend. I was a little worried about how it would be traveling on the boat with all of my luggage and children... but it was super easy...from check in to boarding, easy! The boat offers cocktails and snacks for a charge. The trip is not bad, not too long, but it's a beautiful one. You can ride indoors or out on the deck... I would highly recommend reservations... they have about three trips a day on the weekends, it's less during the week. I wouldn't want to drive there and just hope that there's an available seat.
It's great to have a surf shop that is tailored for girls only. This cute little Hawaiian themed store is full of clothing and accessories. I went there looking for a wetsuit and was able to try several different brands on... The girl working there was very helpful as I did not know too much about the quality of the suits. She brought me several to try. I didn't end up purchasing one, but I wouldn't have hesitated if I found one that I liked enough. They've got cute clothes, tee's, tanks, short, skirts, etc... very beachy!
Second Act is a great store to buy and sell used clothes.... I've definitely found some good deals here on some nice name brand clothing. One time I was there there was even a Vera Wang wedding dress! You can put your clothes on consignment here and it's a good way to get a little return on them. I think that they keep twenty percent and you take the rest. They are choosy though on what they take. You can't pick up your money on the weekends, but otherwise you can just stop in and see if any of your clothes have sold. Sometimes I've gone here and found nothing, other times, I've found several things. Definitely a good place to check out! Oh ya.. they've got a lot of accessories, jewelry, shoes, etc... and men's clothing (only adult though!)
The pizza here is super! It's a great family restuarant and there's plenty of room, so really never a big wait (however, the parking lot does get full fast!) The servers have always been very nice... service is good and pretty quick. My husband did order some ravioli once though and he thought is was extremely mediocre! So I would definitely stick with the pizza because it is definitely good!
The ladies that work here are extremely friendly and helpful. This place has a zillion bathing suits to choose from and to me the best part is that there you can mix sizes... like you don't have to buy a size 8 top with a size bottom... which for me is wonderful... you can try on different sizes and purchase the two that fit the best. It's a great place for all body types... you don't have to be model-thin for them to help you find a flattering bathing suit. They also have some maternity suits here that are a little more stylish than the ones you find elsewhere.... Girls (young and old)... GO!
This is a very unique bookstore... it's like an old fashioned cottage and it has a very homey feel. You can sit around and browse the books and gifts while enjoying a decent cup of coffee. They've got games on the tables that you can play and it's just a relaxing place to be... it's located in Seaport Village, so the scenery is just nice. The young people that work there are always friendly and don't mind at all that you just browse around forever.
My father-in-law loves the sea.... so whenever it is gift time, I pop into this store and whoa-la... everything you can think of that is related to the sea is here! I don't even know where to start with what this store has.. literally everything. The people that work are always super friendly and helpful to me. They will make conversation and help you out by telling you about the items in the store. You will have no problem finding a gift for anyone who loves the sea...shells, small ships, weather stuff, sea animals, etc... really, there is a lot of stuff... an interesting store!
This store is a great find, especially in La Jolla! A friend of mine turned me on to this place and it has quickly become a favorite! They have trendy-type clothing and super great prices! You will be very surprised how cheap it is, I believe it's all priced $15 or less. The store is jam-packed full and you are sure to find something to suit you... it's like a chic Marshalls! You'll be pleasantly surprised!
My husband bought an older underwater camera and couldn't find anyone near by that could help him diagnose the specific problem and get it tuned up properly. We were referred to Bob Davis and were very pleased with the help we receieved from them. We found them to be extremely knowledgable...they got our camera in great working order. Today, with the world of digital pictures and 1 hour photos... it's nice to know there are still experienced camera folks that cameras are their only business. Wouldn't hesitate at all to send anyone here!
One of the best grilled fish sandwiches I've had in San Diego! This is a very simple restuarant but the food is delicious! It's the kind of place that you order up at the counter and then take your food to a table... it's a great place to grab a quick bite... and the fish is super fresh! I would highly recommend the grilled swordfish! Yum!!!
