As far as banks go, this one is pretty good. They are always packed and so the wait is long, but not because the tellers are slow, just busy. I would recommend their service to anyone.
The selection isn't huge, but the service is great. It makes me think of old fashioned hardware stores... even has a dog running around some days! The people are friendly and I have always found what I needed.
Roths has gotten a bum rap for being expensive. Their service is exceptional and they run wonderful specials and sales. I never have a complaint. The keizer store has a great bulk section with lots of natural foods.
Nordstrom... as always has great service and wonderful product. The Salem store is smaller than most, but offers just the same feeling as those stores in bigger cities. The personal shoppers are great
I can recommend the theater in downtown salem...not the newest or the fanciest in town, but it has always offered good movies and tries new things like free movies in the summer. Good quality food and service. The theater is clean and the people are friendly
The grilled artichoke is to die for! The service is great, the food is wonderful and the atmosphere is both casual and nice at the same time. Terrace dining is nice in summer, right down from the farmers market
La Provence has the best pastries anywhere around. The service is good, the food even better. You won't be sorry you stopped in. Great omelettes... big enough to share!
The Arbor has unique items and just an all around fun store to browse through. It is not necessarily for the budget concious, but you can find some deals once in awhile. Just a good little boutique type store in downtown Salem
There are two bars in Salem fighting for title of best burger in town... they both just lost! This bar has the best burger and fries I've ever tasted. Your mouth just waters when you think about them
Chang's is great! If you don't like the food... it's your fault. You make your own and they grill it. Lots of fresh meat and veggies. The wraps are great. Just wonderful!
PROS: You get just what you want
CONS: You have to juggle a bit if you have kids
