We really like the Snell Family Farm. They bring delicious produce to the Farmers Market in the Saco Shaws Plaza every Wed and Sat. The farm itself is easy to find, but the farmers market is closer to us, so we choose to meet with them there. I really enjoy their fresh greens, berries, and pretty much everything they have in season. I highly recommend them!
Hogan's is a short walk (~2 min) from the beach at the intersection of Union Ave and W Grand. They have a variety of beach items and the prices are reasonable. The clerks are very friendly and helpful. It's family owned and local, which we like. It's small, but well organized, and they have a great selection. Parking is limited but usually not a problem.
I highly recommend White Cap Village. It is literally right on the beach with beautiful ocean views. The beach is clean, even at 4pm in the afternoon, because it's not as crowded as the pier area (an early morning beach crew keeps the beach tidy). The rooms are clean and very well kept. The management is wonderful and very caring. You can go to them with questions/concerns and have them addressed right away. Prices are reasonable and there is adequate parking. Downtown is a 10 min walk, and there is a nearby restaurant that's a 2 min walk. There are also two small variety stores near it and a laundromat.
Waves is located right near the beach. My aunt likes to stay here when she visits the town. The rooms are well-kept and close to immaculate. It's not as close to the downtown area as other hotel/motels, but that does make it quieter. The front desk staff are friendly and helpful. She doesn't have a problem obtaining additional towels or having questions answered. The beach in front of it is clean and well maintained by the town's early morning beach cleaning crew. Highly recommend.
Americana has a great location. It's very close to the beach, rides, mini golf, food, and general downtown Old Orchard Beach attractions. Those parking in the nearby paid parking lots are envious of the Americana guests ample parking. The motel is large, it's not a typical tiny motel. The rooms are clean and the front desk staff are polite. It is near the train tracks, but so are all of the downtown motels. One can't easily avoid the train tracks in Old Orchard Beach because the track runs parallel to the water.
St Tropez has a good location on Old Orchard St, really close to the pier and Old Orchard Square. The staff are polite and typically welcome customers as they walk through the door. They have a variety of beach merchandise with reasonable prices. It's not a discount store, but definitely acceptable for its location. Parking is limited on Old Orchard St, you may want to park elsewhere and walk (the street is very friendly to pedestrians).
Zanzibar is a good place to stop by and look around if you're in Old Orchard and it's in the warm season. They have plenty of beach products, t-shirts, etc. The prices are reasonable and it's great that you can easily walk there from the pier. It doesn't have much parking, but that's typical of businesses on that street. It's clean, organized, and the sales staff are nice.
The bread here is so good, you'll be reading the ingredients list trying to figure out how to replicate it. You can get a card that they will punch every time you buy a loaf of bread, and then after a certain amt of purchases, you get a free loaf. My dad loves this bakery so much, that he said that he didn't want to participate in that program because he was afraid that would contribute to them losing profits and going out of business. Seriously, this is the best bakery. It's clean, the people are nice and prompt (they greet you right as you walk in). Sometimes it's busy, and other times it's quiet, it varies, but you don't ever feel like you're going to need to bring a long novel to read in line, because they're quick.
My grandma loved it here, and if it passed her scritiny, you know it's a good motel. She raved about how clean it is, and how the beds were "comfy" and that it was "nicely organized." It's easy to find off Rt 1 and has enough parking. The front desk staff were nice to her when she asked for additional towels (she got them). The price is reasonable. Overall I really recommend this motel. Great place!
This store has an excellent selection of sporting goods, and really good sales. The location is fantastic - it's hard to miss off Rt 1, and has plenty of parking. The staff are friendly and really seem to know their stuff when it comes to skiing equipment and bikes. That made me feel confident enough in their opinion as to which skiis to use, etc.
