I went to school here for all 4 years and graduated from here. Yes, the outside of the gym looks like a barn, but it's a great school and the teachers are top notch. They have great personalities which make the classes more interesting, and they really care about each student. Class size is reasonable and there are a good assortment of extracurricular activities/sports. Recently some new housing has been built near the school, which closed down the nearby transfer station (ie: dump), so the air smells much better for those playing sports outside.
The Old Orchard Beach Inn was recently renovated and the results are fantastic. It looks modern and nice, yet it has maintained its old charm. The rooms are clean and well kept, and the staff are friendly and helpful. It's located at the top of the hill across from the Town Hall, so it's not too far from the beach and places to eat. They have parking in the back but it seems a bit limited. Overall I highly recommend.
I'm not really sure why the Friendship Inn calls itself a "motor inn" - it's actually really quaint and nice. The rooms are clean and it's located right near the water. The prices are reasonable and I think the staff are really helpful. I was given extra towels without a hassle. It's not really near the downtown scene at all though; it's quite a hike to walk. But it is right on the beach. Thumbs up!
The Brunswick is one of the tallest hotels in town. It's located right at the beach. The hotel suite we stayed in was large and had a great view of the ocean and beach. It was clean and accomodated all of us nicely. The price was reasonable (we stayed in October). During the summer, I really like the Brunswick for its music/entertainment. This place is worthing checking out if you're coming to Old Orchard.
I like Sportshoe Center. The staff are polite and helpful. They often make suggestions for the types of sneakers you might be looking for based on your activity and also the width of your foot, etc. The store is clean, organized, and well stocked. The prices are reasonable. Parking is ok. It's located on Main St in Saco.
I like it here. It's quiet, small, clean and organized. The staff are polite and the book selection is good. Part of my favorite aspect is the used book section. I think it's great that people can turn in their old books for store credit towards purchasing new ones. This store reminds me of a Hallmark in its organization and overall "feel." It has plenty of parking because it's located in a shopping center.
We like this mall. It has a lot of stores but it's not overwhelming. They rent strollers for little kids. They have an ok food court - I recommend the sandwiches at Au Bon Pain. They have some good department stores like JCP, Macy's, etc, and they're often having sales. It's really hard to find parking there, I think, especially in front of Best Buy. I usually have better luck parking near Macy's. You do not want to be shopping here at Christmas, it's incredibly crowded.
PROS: good size, easy to find off turnpike, plenty of stores
CONS: very popular can equal very crowded during holiday season
If you want to get away from the beach crowd and downtown scene, the Old Orchard Beach Pavilion is a cool, relaxing place to go. It's located in between the beach and police station off Union Ave near the Salvation Army. They have classical music concerts, singers, choruses, etc. The ticket prices are reasonable and the seats are comfortable. Overall I recommend it.
PROS: reasonably priced tix
We didn't catch any fish during the evening trip (4pm-8pm) but had a good time anyway. The captain is friendly and it was nice to troll around and see the coastline. A couple people caught fish but they had different lures than we used, so maybe that was the difference. If you're doing it for the fish, I recommend the morning run, as they are able to go out farther and look for more fish. They do use sonar.
PROS: cool Captain
CONS: no fish
Dr. F was my pediatrician from the time I was a toddler until I turned 18. He's a great guy. The wait in the waiting room is often a little long, but that's because he's so popular so he has a lot of patients. He's a really good listener, and is quick. He makes good decisions and knows when to refer. He's friendly and really makes the patient feel at ease.
PROS: Excellent physician, great listener
CONS: Bring a book for the waiting room; it can be a while.
