If you are traveling interstate 55 between St. Louis and memphis, plan on stopping here. They have the lowest gas prices around and the biggest selection of snacks, drinks, etc. The bathrooms are usually pretty clean and the station is always open. Even on Christmas day.
The locals know this place as "The QT."
Johnson Shut Ins is a great place to take the family on a summer afternoon. The Black river cuts through the park over and around gigantic granite boulders creating a quarter long stretch of beautiful river adventure. The "shut ins" are usually pretty croweded on weekends in the summer, but if you can get out there during the week you will have an awesome time and not be overwhelmed with the number of people.
Do NOT jump off the big bluffs, even though you will want to. Besides being kind of dangerous, they WILL ticket you for doing it. Bring some bug spray for your evening barbeque. This is mosquito territory.
The Anheuser Busch Brewery Located at Arsenal St just off Interstate 55 is the world headquarters for the King of Beers. The tour offered for this facility is great fun and very informative. The brewery is immaculate and the beer tasting at the end of the tour is a beer lovers dream. Make a day of it and take the brewery tour, visit the arch and go see a Cardinals game. All within minutes of each other in Downtown St. Louie.
Hershey Park is a GREAT place to take your family. Lots of fun things to do in the park and the tour of the factory, museum and the store is worth the trip. If you have a sweet tooth, this is a must on your drive across PA.
The best way to experience any of "The Track" family fun centers is with a big group. There are four or five different locations, each with a unique go cart track. Buy the "card" which entitles you to something like 60 tickets. After that, all the tickets you purchase are half price and the card is good for a full year. Several places around Branson will give you a 10% discount if you show your "go card" as well. Including Cold Stone Creamery. So, race your friends and make the loser buy everyone ice creams. At least they'll get a discount!
This store is full of inexpensive and fun party supplies. The employees are very helpful and friendly and can help you find just about anything. A great place for themed parties, novelty decorations and doodads and tchotchkes.
