I've been going here fairly frequently sinc emoving to SF, and every time I've been impressed. Most pubs here have terrible food, but this place is the execption. Try their bloody mary's -- delicious!
PROS: warm atmosphere, good staff, outdoor seating
CONS: can get loud
Blonde shoulder length hair does not require rocket sceince and it is difficult to disappoint me, but Back Stage was the worst. One year ago, I went in for basic blonde highlights and a 1 inch trim. I walked away with an orange mullet circa 1992 and horrible layers that I'm still growing out!
This is one of those salons that just does whatever they want, despite your requests. The worst part was seeing the colorists face when she realized what she'd done and scrambled to fix it, which she couldn't!
PROS: Easy to get in... wonder why?
CONS: You'll walk away with a mullet!
Cole hardware on Polk has friendly, helpful sales people who will listen to what you think you need, and make a good recommendaiton. For a hardware novice like myself, it is always appreciated.
CONS: Limited hours, more expensive than home depot.
I'm sure I could find a "world class" shoe repair shop elsewhere in the city, but for the neighborhood, this store is convenient and relatively quick. Maybe I'm spoiled by New York, but prices seem a little high for simple repairs, but you can't beat Carlos's locaiton.
My Family has been goign to E.R. Sawyers for years for jewelry purchases, service and repair. They're a small-town family owned business who runs a fantastic business. I wait to have my jewelry looked at or worked on until I am in town because I trust them with my most important pieces.
PROS: Reliable, trustworthy
CONS: Small, work can take some time
I go to MotoJava because its near my office, and Michael is friendly and makes a great iced latte. The shop is bare-bones, but super convenient in a virtual desert of food and coffee options.
PROS: near the freeway, friendly owner
I tried this cleaner because I moved to the nighborhood and especially appreciate their 20% off early bird discount. Also look for a 30% off coupon on the back of your Cala Foods recepit if you shop there. On a big load of dry cleaning, this can be a real $$ saver.
PROS: Discounts, discounts, discounts
I went to Dr. Duhn on the recommendation of a colleague and she was correct! He is friendly and veyr smart. He explains what he is doing as he's doing it, and takes his time to make you feel comfortable. The downside is that it takes a while to see a hygeinist for cleaning, but based on my first visit, it is worth the wait.
PROS: Confortable, informative
CONS: Waiting for an appointment
I've been to Chez Spencer twice now, once with colleagues, once with my family, and have been impressed with great food and great service both times. They make solid wine list recommendations and the food runs the gamut from frog legs to steak. If you love French-American and want to find a hidden gem in the city, you'll love Chez Spencer!
I first heard about Mercer Street from Daily Candy and decided to give it a whirl. The environment is modern, but very friendly. Ashley does great color at a reasonable price, and for cuts, Shannon listens to what you want and delivers. Plus they offer you cupcakes! Who could disagree with that?
PROS: Great atmosphere, friendly staff
