I really like the atmosphere. Cool music, nice folks, not too high fashion, not too pricey. A perfect Salon for guys. Generally they are booked a few weeks in advance but it is possible to get in on a cancelation. They make you look great and help you to get to know what looks best on you and how to achieve your desired look outside the salon.
This florist located on nob hill has a nice friendly neighborhood atmosphere. The staff is nice and helpful and always willing to make suggestions if you're at a loss for what to get. It's priced well and the stock is fairly large. You can easily stop in and quickly find something perfect.
This is one of the best places to get sneakers in San Francisco. They carry the usual adidas and whatnot as well as harder to find brands. I also have fairly large feet (13 mens) and they generally have what I like in stock. They have a new location on Valencia street that is not nearly as good.
Don't be fooled by the tarot decks and other new agey stuff, this is a prime location for healing herbs, many of which can be hard to find. This stuff is not for quacks, it works. The staff knows their stuff and its priced fairly. They also offer many educational books to learn more on the subject.
PROS: great selection of hard to find herbs.
This store is full of strange and exotic curiosities. It's full of taxidermy (there's a stuffed lion in the window), which may be a turn off for some, but they also have a huge selection of exotic plants, including many carniverous ones. You know, venus fly traps and the like. It's truly unique and well worth visiting, and makes perfect gifts for those into something a little out of the ordinary.
This is the best ice cream I have ever had in my entire life. For sure. The real catch is the wide array of exotic flavors. They have fig, rose, and cashew raisin as well as the usual like strawberry and pastachio. It's made fresh and always guarenteed to please. It $4.95 a pint it's a little pricey but definitely worth it.
This paper brags about being the best independent weekly in the nation, but lately I have found the content lacking. Most of the writing is just regular columnists. After the cover story there's not much original writing. It is read by every one, so it would be good if you're looking to advertise. I also find their horoscope surprisingly accurate.
I'm not a big fan of this chain. Their selection is pretty small and is becoming more and more geared toward digital technology. The staff is knowlegable about their stock but its not a good place to look for anything out of the ordinary. There is a lot of parking at this location, which is rare for Market st.
I took my car here because I had it towed in the evening and it was one of the only places open and I regretted it. I got work done on the transmission and afterwards it couldn't get out of first gear! I had to take it back 3 times to get the repair done right. The prices aren't very fair either.
This store is okay but nothing special. Their selection is small but adaquate. They seem to have a high turnover on staff and it doesn't seem like they have people who specialize in particular crafts. If in San Francisco Flax Art and Design is just down Market street and much better.
