This is the best art supply store I've found in San Francisco. The selection is broad and covers most everything. If you are not exactly sure what you need the staff is usually very knowledgeble. There are always plenty of cashiers, so you're never stuck in line and there is parking, which is rare for market street.
PROS: broad supply. parking.
If you are into filmmaking this is the best spot for suppliesin San Francisco. They stock 8mm and 16mm film and have everything you need for supplies and projectors. In this digital age filmmaking is a dying art and it is often hard to find what you need, so this store is a rare find. It's collection of antique cameras is fascinating as well.
PROS: Not all digital. Still stocks film.
Not all Walgreens are created equal. This one has the usual drug store stuff, but the pharmacy is terrible. They mess up my order every time and it usually takes them a while. When in the Oakland area I tend to go to the Alameda store.
CONS: They always get my order wrong.
A real meat and patatoes kind of garage. nothing too flashy, but the mechanics are reliable and will quote you a fair price. Work is always done on time and they never try to talk the price up for repairs that aren't necessary.
This is a hearty good slice of pizza. Not too greasy and the crust in fluffy. Some more upscale restaurants may be better, but for a slice on the go this is the best spot I've found. They make slices to order, so it's always fresh and there is a wide range of toppongs. Well priced as well.
Every tattoo I've seen done here has been incredible. The artists are very professional and more than willing to work with customers to get the piece perfect. Of course it is clean and sterile. The staff makes you feel comfortable and is women and queer-friendly.
PROS: Great staff.
This is the finest tailor in the bay area. This is the only spot I take my bosses clothes to. The staff is old and clearly knows their craft. They are professional, but not intimidating and open to any questions. They can finish any job in a timely fashion
PROS: Quick. Friendly. Experienced.
This is a San Francisco staple. Easily the best cup of coffee I've found in this city. Unfortuantely the food is not so hot and fairly typical. Bagels and pasteries. It's perfect for a quick jolt in the morning ('Muddy' is definately an apt description) but if you're interested in more than a great cup of coffe go elsewhere.
The first thing I noticed about this store is the very helpful staff. They are always willing to field questions about items and are willing to assist if you are looking for a particular item. Unfotunately the stock is not very large and there is not a large turn around, but if the clothes are your style you will always find what you are looking for. The prices are okay.
PROS: good staff
CONS: selection does not change often.
Food Mill is a no nonsense health food store. None of that hippy suff here. None of that yuppie wine and cheese stuff either. The Food Mill, on Macarthur in between the Laurel and Dimond districts, stocks the basics and the best. The staff is knowledgeble but the tiny parking lot is a nightmare.
