I went to Monkey Jungle as a child in the 70's and have wonderful memories of the place and the monkeys. So wonderful that I decided to take my own children there last year...and boy was I shocked.
I realize they suffered tremendous damage from Hurricane Andrew years ago...but I did not realize that they have barely come back from all the damage.
The parking lot was hardly recognizeable as a lot...and the signs to find Monkey Jungle were barely noticeable. The entry fee was ridiculously high.
There were many closed exhibits, blocked-off walkways, etc. We made it through the entire place in under an hour - way less than what we expected for the money we paid. It was very disappointing.
PROS: cute mokeys
CONS: overprices, limited exhibits, run-down
I have an aunt who is very ill. I love this aunt very much. She is a patient of Dr. Galinsky's and I owe Dr. Galinsky a huge thank you for giving me the gift of more time with my aunt.
She treats her with respect and is gentle and caring. She is avaialble whenever my aunt needs her and she treats every aspect of my aunt's illness.
My aunt is not an easy patient - her issues are complicated and she has no patience for slow offices and lousy office staff...but she raves about Dr. Galinsky's office and her staff.
If she can make my aunt happym she can make anybody happy - and since she has been able to keep my aunt chuggin' along...I have a big THANK YOU for her.
PROS: caring, professional, good office staff
At the VF Factory outlet you walk in through the entrance and are struck by the glare of flourescent lighting and filthy floors. There are racks randomly set up in no real organized fashion with tons and tons of clothing on them.
Their prices are slightly lower than other stores - but not low enough to make it worth the estra trip and runnaging through the disorganized racks.
The lines are always long and the sales people are unfriendly.
In a pinch, I have run in here to grab socks for my children...but it is not a place I will ever go just to browse and shop around.
PROS: slightly lower prices than average retail
CONS: filthy and disorganized store
This is a great traditional barber shop located in a strip mall in Coconut Creek. They do a great job on men, and more importantly they do a great job on young kids. The owner does the best work and the others there do well...but we prefer the owner. The place is clean and there is seldom more than a 5-10 minute wait. They have a basket of toys to keep one child busy while the other is having his hair cut.
They only accept cash - no checks and no credit cards - so be sure to bring cash...there is a Publix a few doors down with a cash machine in case you are in a pinch.
PROS: great cuts
CONS: cash only
Now THIS is a GREAT place!! My kids love to go browsing here because the staff is kid-friendly and warm and welcoming. The lay-out of the store is open and organized with different sections for different sports. Everything is clean and easy-to-find. It is a great place to get cleats and other sports equipment at a deep discount. Check this place out before you go anywhere else!
PROS: neat - organized - friendly staff
I went in to Brad's Toystand with my kids one afternoon while our car was being washed up the road. I found the place to be overpacked with inventory, sloppy and th estaff seemed to be in a foul mood and very unfriendly. It's a toy store for heaven's sake - the employees should crack a smile every now and again. There were a bunch of rowdy teenagers in the store making it unpleasant for my young children and the whoe experience was enough to send up back to Toys R Us next time.
PROS: large selection of collectibles
CONS: unfriendly staff
Think Thrift carries a HUGE array of clothing and household items at great prices! For playclothing for your children (they are going to trash it and outgrow it, right?) this is a great plce to shop. If you ar einto vintage unique clothing - you can find plenty of it here.
You need to be careful here, though, because much of their clothing is stanined or has holes, rips, or some kind of damage. Inspect things closely because they have a No Returns/As Is policy here.
They have 1/2 price sales now and then and offer lots of great incentive deals like a frequent shopper punch card.
The place is kinda gross and dusty/musty. If you have allergies, I suggest you take an allergy pill before shopping here - and the plaza in which it is located is really quite seedy.
PROS: great stuff - great prices
CONS: dirty, seedy area
To Di For carries very trendy, high end, unique clothing at high prices. The look the offer tends to be a bit sexy, a bit edgy. This is not your Ann Taylor type of look at all. This is a very "Parkland broad" style they offer.
They have some great evening gowns and party dresses, but I think it is safe to say this is not the place you want to go when you are looking for a dress to wear to your corporate husband's company dinner.
It has a great location at the corner of Hillsboro and 441 with a nice parking lot and a Starbucks just a few doors down.
PROS: trendy unique clothing
CONS: a bit edgy - bordering on expensive trashy
Alfred Angelo was another of the places I visited when shopping for my wedding gown. I did not like it here at all.
It had a very warehousey feel to it and the salespeople seemed as though they couldn't be bothered - there was not personal service like at most bridal stores.
The saleswoman asked me what color of white I wanted (ivory, winter white, etc) and she pulled 8 gowns out, hung them in a room for me and said "try these on." Wedding gowns are not "try these on" types of dresses - getting into and out of most of them is a two persona job. I needed her help and she had already taken off. That was really off-putting.
While their prices were reasonable, I felt like they took the specialness out of wedding gown shopping...we left and found my gown elsewhere.
PROS: large selection of both wedding and prom dresses
CONS: no customer service at all - a very "do it yourself" kind of place
I went to Bellissima when I was shopping for my wedding gown last year. They are a VERY small boutique with a small selection of VERY unique and VERY elegant dresses. They have dresses in a variety of styles and price ranges but these are dresses you will NOT see on every bride in town. These are gorgeous, unique, very beautifully made dresses...not your typical run of the mill Vera Wang knock-off.
You receive one on one service as this is a by-appointment-only bridal shop. Teh attendant gets to know you and helps you every step of the way making you feel like a princess.
PROS: unique dresses
CONS: expensive - not much selection
