I never would have realized this store was in existence if I didn't have to stop at the traffic light waiting for it to turn green. Usually I would just drive on by without giving this place a second look. I'm glad I finally did.
The Baseball Card Store is located in Midland Park, NJ and lives up to its name it sells a lot of baseball and sports cards. This operation has been around for a long time and the owners are world class. I was really impressed by how friendly they are especially to first time customers. They make you feel like youve been part of their store for years. I usually go in there to purchase storage boxes for my cards and I need particular ones all the time. Most of the time they do have it, but if they don't they will make a special order to make sure that they get the stock in for me. I've never been disappointed with their service and they usually give me some good discounts.
Besides sports cards, they also offer other trading cards for gaming as well as supplies to protect your cards. Like I said, if they don't have a particular item you are looking for, they will go out of their way to get it for you if it's available.
These are the people I would trust and will always give them repeat business.
PROS: Excellent customer service, extremely friendly people
I used to live at Kinkos in British Columbia either using the computer or photocopying items. I was so familiar with the operation that I was glad that things were the same when I moved to New Jersey.
Located on Rt. 17 near the entrance to the Garden State Parkway, Kinkos (now FedEx Kinkos) offers convenience for those in need to use a photocopier or a computer. This location has many PCs available but only one Mac equipped with a scanner. Using these computers is easy by either inserting your credit card or a time card to record the minutes of your computer usage.
Other services include printing business cards, brochures, or any quick and easy documentation that you dont want to deal with yourself. They also sell office supplies and a variety of different types of paper to make those great first impressions for resumes.
As indicated by the name change, FedEx service is available. Now a person can work on the computer, make copies on the photocopier, get some binding done, and send things out through FedEx in one stop. Sounds like a day at work.
The staff is helpful to a point if they know the answer to your questions. Sometimes it seems like the people are bothering them, but in most cases they will help you out one-on-one.
Im just surprised that there is only one Kinkos around in the area. It makes it harder for people who dont live close by to have any access to this service.
PROS: Accessible use of computers and photocopiers at your disposal
CONS: Not enough locations around the area
Living in a congested area of New Jersey leaves me to wonder if its all made up of highways, and everything I see from the highway is a big, brand-named store. My opinion changed when I happened to chance upon a small store at the Ramsey Square Shopping Center on Rt.17 that sold fresh food.
Ramsey Farm is a delight as it takes me back to my hometown in British Columbia, Canada where I could always purchase the freshest fruits, vegetables, meats, fish, and even flowers. The Asian owners who manage this store always make sure everything is of top quality. I enjoy how I am able to find some select Asian goods that can't be found in a big chain supermarket.
The prices are very reasonable, sometimes even cheaper than a regular supermarket. The selection of fish is incredible, all ready for you to take home and prepare right away. On top of that, they also have a sushi bar for people to take home something quick to eat or will cater if you have a big party.
I'm glad Ramsey Farm is in New Jersey to take away from the fast-paced lifestyle, at least for a few minutes.
PROS: Freshest food around, great prices
Every er needs to find the right tools and equipment in order to put together whatever ing project is currently being worked on, and to do so need a good place for all the necessary accessories. Located on Rt. 17, Hi-Way Hobby fulfills this need and so much more.
The store is huge and filled with boxes and boxes of various kits, each of them varying in age and experience range. There are many aisles with different genres to select from--WWII, fantasy, science fiction, automobiles, planes--you name it, they probably have it. Because there are boxes and boxes stacked on these shelves, it can seem overwhelming trying to look for anything. Sometimes it feels too cluttered, but that always seems to be the case for s. Paints, brushes and other supplies are easily found at the entrance of the store.
There is also a space dedicated for those that love to paint miniature figures such as Warhammer. There is plenty of gaming material dedicated to that subject matter.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. They steer you in the right direction to make your purchase a lot easier by explaining the cause and effects of different materials.
The place can be hard to find as its tucked behind other buildings. If you are lucky enough to see the sign for the store, you have eagle eyes. Otherwise, you will definitely miss it especially since its on the busy Rt. 17 highway. Be prepared to make U-turns.
PROS: Great selections, lots to choose from
CONS: Can be hard to find if you don't know where to look
Dave & Busters at the Palisades Mall in New York State defies the imagination. For one thing, there are plenty of arcade games to keep a child busy for a good couple of hours. Did I say a couple of hours? I think any kid would move into this place.
They make it easy for kids to use any of the machines. No longer do you need to dump in quarters for game play. Instead power up a Dave & Busters game card and enjoy playing any game in the location to your hearts content. Besides arcade games there are also games of skill and amusement. These games offer tickets as winnings. Collect enough tickets and redeem them at the gift store. It's amazing how much you can accumulate in an hours time if all you ever do is play these types of games. Items range for the small, simple item to the outrageous, over-the-top, how the-heck-am-I-ever-going-to-get-that accessory.
Dave & Busters also includes a family restaurant instead the gaming area, and a sports bar outside the gaming area for those parents who wish to relax and wait for their child.
It's a really fun experience especially if you have a huge party. Dave & Busters will accommodate you if you wish to book the place for any party of sorts. Kids will enjoy their time at this place and youll have some peace of mind knowing that they will be entertained.
PROS: Great fun and entertainment
CONS: Can be a costly trip if you don't budget yourself
Part of the charm of Caesars Palace in Las Vegas is the The Forum which houses an array of stores ranging from the Gap to Gucci to Kenneth Cole and the like. In the midst of all of it is FAO Schwartz, the most incredible toy store I have ever seen.
This two floor beauty is laid out in such a fashion that you need to explore every facet of ithe store. The first floor is mostly dedicated to younger children and toddlers with the likes of Playmobil and infant toys. Upstairs is where all the action takes place. The action figures and games are a huge attraction that it will be impossible to drag your children out of the store. There's even a lifesized replica of Darth Vader which will thrill everyone.
The staff is always busy yet very helpful. It's great to know that they know where everything is located because it can be overwhelming at times.
I like the atmosphere of FAO Schwartz because it feels like the toy stores of old where everything seems magical and inspiring. Yes, I was awestruck by everything that was there.
I guess it's a stroke of genius to have the Cheesecake Factory next door because one needs to whet his/ her appetite after an adventure at FOA Schwartz.
PROS: Incredible displays and layout, lots of selections
There seems to be a weird dichotomy that takes place in a city like Las Vegas where bright lights and over-the-top hotels seem to try to outdo one another. In the midst of all of this is an exhibition showcasing the incredible works displayed by masters of all periods of time.
The Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art does just this. This classy resort has undertaken a different approach to the theme of the entire hotel which exudes class and fine taste. This is obviously a strange thing to say when there is a casino not to far away from this art gallery.
The gallery is open 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays, with 9:30 pm being the last admission. There can be some opening time delays due to private functions or showins so it's wise to call ahead to make sure that it doesn't affect your plans to attend this showcase of art. Admission is $15, with students, seniors and Nevada residents paying only $12. A great treat for those living in the area.
It must be noted that this place is treated like a church. No food, drink, photography, video equipment, cell phones, even baby strollers during peak times are allowed in this place.
And there is a gift shop to make sure that you take a part of the gallery experience.
All in all, it's a great change of pace from the loud noise that is Las Vegas and a great place to have time for quiet reflection over the incredible artwork produced by the many genuises of any time.
PROS: Wonderful, classy, a treasure in the heart of Sin City
CONS: Rules can be very strict, time delays can cause problems
Brookstone in New Orleans is part of the Riverwalk Mall complex that stetches alongside the Mississippi River. As expected with any Brookstone store there are lots of gadgets which attracts many people to browse around. Of course the massaging chairs are such a great attraction. My wife and I probably tried evert chair at least twice to take out all the knots in our sore bodies from walking around the French Quarter.
As a result we decided to buy a portable massaging device called the Maxx to bring back to our hotel room. We looked at all the s available and felt this was the best one for us, even though the price was high. It was a nice honeymoon treat for the both of us as we quickly learned when we put the Maxx into use.
The staff was very helpful in describing all the features which made making our selection so much easier. I'm grateful that they know their products intimately because I would have been very disappointed if the product we purchased didn't live up to all the hype. Needless to say we have abused this machine more times than humanly possible.
The store was very neat and ergonomically functionally with items displayed perfectly for maximum exposure. I have only good things to say about the people who work at this store in New Orleans.
PROS: Friendly and helpful staff, great and fun items
CONS: Pricey items
When I visit my friend in Seattle, I attend Sunday mass with him at St. Francis of Assisi. This is a great church with lots of community participation and a thriving congregation. I always feel at home whenever I come to this church which is a big plus because you don't want to feel alienated from everything.
There is also an elementary school associated with this parish which makes the community even more prominent. The priests are very friendly and welcoming to all who come, while the choir adds a special touch to an already joyful celebration.
The people of St. Francis of Assisi will always make you feel at home.
PROS: Great community
Golden Age Collectibles is one of the stops I make in Pikes Market when visiting Seattle. This shop is loaded with comics--old and new--as well as many collectibles, merchandise, magazines, toys, and even movie scripts. This place looks like a gold mine in this marketplace.
Everything you want is almost here, even though they are short on the Japanese and items. However, be wary of the prices. It seems like everything is overpriced compared to other shops. My guess is that it is catering towards the tourists who fall in their trap. However it's nice to know there are items available at this place if you can't find it anywhere else.
My recommendation is to get the very old comics if you can afford them. Just make sure the condition is more than subpar becuase you don't want to pay an arm and a leg for nothing.
PROS: Terrific selections, lots of merchandise
CONS: Tourist trap, overpriced
