Grace Reformed Church
Grace reformed church is part of the Reformed Church of the United States denomination. The teaching is very sound and traditional and the people are friendly. There are a lot of young couples with children as well as older and middle aged members.
Portland Community College
PCC offers classes in a wide array of subjects and is a great cheap way to get in required credits without paying the prices at a four year school. Most students are right out of high school but there is a good mix of older back to school students as well. Parking can be a hassle but the campus is well laid out.
The Coffee Cottage
The coffee cottage is a great hang out and relax type of place. It is usually filled with students from the nearby George Fox University but not too crowded or loud. A great place to grab a latte and have a good conversation with a friend or enjoy a good book.
IKEA
Ikea is a huge home store that will take you all day to fully appreciate. The prices are very low and the products are generally good quality. Ikea carries home furnishings, textiles, children's furnishings, dishware, just about everything you need for a new home or apartment. Most of the styles are urban contemporary. There is even a swedish restaurant inside to feul you for all that shopping. Be sure to check out the scratch & dent section for even lower prices. Parking is free in the deck across the street and you can bring your car around to the store for loading large items (be warned though that these spots are limited and people are ruthless to get into them)
Bob Hope Airport
Burbank is a lot easier to get into and out of than LAX. Parking is easier and it is often times the same price to fly into Burbank instead of LA without having to deal with the huge crowds.
Pacific Shore Mortgage
The loan officers at Pacific shore are very helpful, going over any programs that may work for you. They are also easy to get ahold of - a big plus when dealing with a mortgage company. We are very satisfied with our mortgage through Pacific Shore.
LaVerne and Son Electrical Air Conditioning & Heating
We had our AC unit replaced by Laverne & Son and were very impressed. They took the time to explain the difference in units and were quick and professional. They were also less expensive than the other quotes we recieved.
Spca
The SPCA has many adoptable cats and dogs and they really seem to take the time to know the animals they are adopting out at least a little bit. The prices are higher than at the county animal control but it is right in town and this may be enough of a plus for some people.
Kern County Animal Control Services Shelter
If you are looking to adopt a pet, this is the place to do it. They are open on Saturdays and have extended evening hours on Wednesdays. These pets really need homes and the adoption fee is less than at the SPCA.
Peyton James H DDS
Dr. Peyton takes time to talk to his patients and get to know them. He is very good about working with our insurance and only doing procedures that are needed. He is located in a beautiful old house right downtown off of Truxton.
