Of course everything you buy at Sams Clubs is in large quantities and bulk, so you get great buys. But there's something about this Sams, which I'm pretty sure is its first in Dallas, that just draws me in. Many Mom & Pop stores shop there, along with regular families like me, and there's a certain kind of charm.
PROS: Buy in bulk and save.
The variety and quality are there, and many of the same dishes as the former queen of cafeterias, the Highland Park Cafeteria. I've been told it's the same ownership. The baked squash is simply not to be believed. The brownies are to-die-for, as are most of the pastries and desserts.
PROS: Wonderful food with a long history.
It's hard to argue about just how good this delicacy is, and when you add sweet potato souffle and other side dishes to the mix, you have a wonderful dinner. But plan ahead - way ahead, for occasions like the holidays, and call to reserve your order. And if you decide to "drop by" after work, be prepared to get rushed. Although they post 6:00 as their closing time, they lock up and start putting away at 5:30. And you know those yummy little samples you've become accustomed to trying there, that tell you if you're interested in buying an item or not? They're empty dishes teasing you at 5:30.
PROS: Delicious ham, turkey and side dishes.
CONS: Closes earlier than posted closing time.
When you're ready for a leisurely dinner of fantastic pasta dishes, Momo's a great choice. Extensive menu includes all the usual pasta dishes, lasagna, spagetti, angel hair, and a few surprises. Also check out the Belt Line location.
PROS: Great food; lovely ambiance.
Personally, I love to visit this (upscale but not snooty) Whole Foods location if I need to be cheered up - after a crummy day at work or a tif with the family. My 8-year old granddaughter loves shopping here with me any time. Wonderful selection of produce, seafood and meat. Make-your-own salad bar can't be beat. Also gourmet carry-out dishes, and hot dishes and homemade soups for eating there.
PROS: Great products, seafood and meat selections. Friendly staff.
With everything from barnyard petting, catering-friendly picnic area, and relatively easy location to reach, this is an ideal spot for your outdoor company picnic.
PROS: Good for company picnics.
I've always loved this store, and I've never been disappointed. Nice sales people who care about finding what you're looking for, and an incredible, fabulous selection. Visit the Country Store while you're there. You'll get all sorts of gift and home decorating ideas.
PROS: Great inventory, well established in Dallas for many years.
Although a big WalMart is right up the street on Midway, it's not a Supercenter, so here's where you drop in to pick up a few things. Also has drive-through pharmacy. Not a huge selection of items, so you probably won't do your big weekly shopping here, but it's a handy location to run in for milk, eggs, and try their own bakery's bagels. They rock!
PROS: Convenient. Easy in and out.
CONS: Not enourmous selection of products.
Perhaps the greatest four years of my life. I loved it so much there I spent most of each summer in town. Excellent faculty - probably the best in the country. Such a diverse population, and so spread out, but the University has an atmosphere of warmth and belonging.
PROS: Wonderful faculty, Austin is a beautiful town
Go hungry and take the family. Delicious meals served family style. Always packed at lunch and at dinner. Amazing meat loaf, good vegetables, save room for dessert!
PROS: Wonderful food served family style. Great locations.
