Hey some dives have great food. Well the food is pretty tasty. I will give them that. My visit was less than enjoyable however. The lady who runs this place is rude and crude with zero charm or personality. She made up prices at the end that were not on the menu.
They had on no A/C in 85 degree weather and the place is just plain dumpy looking with a gross painting on the main wall. To top that off it's in a strip mall that sometimes has "characters" lingering about. Hey I'm glad I found out!
They actually do have many fish here that look just like Nemo the clownfish. Their speciality is tropical fish. They have a great selection and are located in a popular strip mall. Their prices are fair. Many tropical fish can be quite pricey no matter where you shop. They also have a limited supply of freshwater fish.
PROS: Well informed staff
CONS: Prices can be high on some fish and accessories
They do a good job cleaning and pressing your clothes. The problem is their prices are too high on most dry cleaning. I recently wanted a winter coat repaired and cleaned from them but had to take it somewhere else because their quote was almost as much as the coat itself.
PROS: They do good work
CONS: Prices are too high, limited street parking
This orginazation helps Korean and non Korean seniors and others to help themselves. They help those that need to learn English and those that need to get adjusted to life in America. They have many social and outreach programs. They work with the city of Chicago and the community. Pay it forward!
PROS: Helping the community
CONS: Limited street parking
The fact that they are located on Green street is a clue in itself. This company is dedicated to making the world a better place. You have probably noticed their green clothes drop off boxes around town. They sell these donated clothes at their many resale shops. The money they raise goes back into helping the environment and also many wothwhile causes. You can learn how to help by visiting their website.
PROS: They are helping to make our planet a better place
Located in the midst of many well known car dealerships lies this low key gallery. Morgan disproves any stereotypes about the northwest side having artists. There are some amazing paintings of all types of mediums for sale here. The most impressive of their lot being done in oil or acrylic paints. The prices can be quite steep on some, but these are one of a kind hand painted gems in some cases.
PROS: Excellent paintings for sale
CONS: street parking only, high prices for paintings
A living, breathing 75 year old Art Center thrives and grows in 2006 and breathes life into the community. Upon approaching the grounds to this historic landmark you can feel yourself go back to a less complicated time. Housed in an old English style mansion built on the lakefront, allowed the original owners the priviledge of having their own private beach. The beach section is now open to the public. This facility offers classes from every art media they can think of including painting, drawings, ceramics and sculpting.
PROS: Beautiful grounds and mansion, lakefront setting
CONS: Limited parking
Visiting this pub is like frequenting two places in one. The first half is more like an old fashioned Irish pub that serves all the standards of Harp, Guiness, and other brews. The other part of the place features a back room with up and coming indie/alternative rock bands with its own separate bar and seating. The back area does not have much in the way of decor or charm, but is more what you would expect from a no frills rock club.
PROS: Good location, get to hear up and coming musicians
CONS: No food, parking is terrible, gets too crowded on weeekends with kids
Part of the charm and appeal to me is that it's not a chain, or a cold, impersonal mega theater. Family owned theaters like this are a dying breed that should be celebrated. I will admit that the screen is on the small side and the sound system is not state of the art, but the prices are very reasonable and it has vintage photos and pictures lining the walls and takes you back to a simpler, happier time. The theater features all new releases for a lot less than the bigger theatres.
PROS: Plenty of charm and character
CONS: Parking can be very difficult, restrooms are very old
Located inside the Foster/Harlem strip mall you will find this outlet store. Originally their focus was coast, but they have now expanded to feature dress and casual clothes for men, women and children including brand new designer labels. I purchased two winter coats a couple of months ago that I am very pleased with and got them at roughly half the manufacturer's list price. They also have some nice gift items as well.
PROS: Plenty of parking in the strip mall lot
CONS: Some employees have poor customer service skills, return policy is not good
