The Cinerama movie theater in downtown Seattle is the only place to see block buster action movies. I've seen The Matrix II, X-Men II and Star Wars Episode III at the Cinerama.
It's owned by local ex-Microsoft billionare Paul Allen. He purchased the Cinerama a few years ago and completely remodeled it. The atmosphere is fun. It has a really cool ceiling that looks like the night sky when the lights go down. Seats are comfortable. And being the tech guru that Paul A. is, of course this theater has all the latest technology. The sound is incredible.
Price is the same as other theaters. Location is fairly easy to reach. Parking is an issue. Especially if you chose to attend a matinee. Very popular so give yourself enough just in case there's a line to get it. Recommend using their advance purchase service offered through the Cinerama website: www.cinerama.com
PROS: Big Screen, Awesome Sound, Fun Atmosphere
CONS: No Parking, Popular (Long Lines)
I used to be a faithful Larry's Markets shopper. Recently, however, I've been known to frequent Trader Joe's or QFC instead. Larry's does have a solid produce department, good deli and awesome cheese section. They carry many different brands and have a wide variety of items available, some hard to find in other stores.
I've noticed a change over the past 6 months. They keep rearranging and remodeling the store. One of the things I like about going to the same place every time is that I learn where things are and that can lead to a quicker shopping trip. With all the rearranging going on...I'm not sure where things are and it ends up taking twice as long to shop. Irritating. Also, I noticed their prices have increased as well. I wish they would choose a layout and stick with it. Otherwise I fear I'll have to shop elsewhere.
PROS: Solid Produce, Better than Average Deli & Awesome Cheese
CONS: Too Many Layout Changes, Prices Too High
My daughter has been bugging me to take her to the salon for a "big girl" haircut. I wasn't thrilled about paying for a salon cut for my 7 year old, so I asked my stylist at Gene Juarez if they had a beauty school that took appointments from the public. She said they did. So I called and booked an appointment for not only a haircut, but for a pedicure as well.
The experience was very positive and my daughter felt like a million bucks! Without having to pay it :-)
PROS: Inexpensive, professional service
CONS: So many stations that it felt a bit impersonal
I used to work for T-Mobile in Factoria and the Torero's Mexican restaurant across the street was our favorite after work meeting place. The bar is inviting with nice booths and fantastic Cadillac Margaritas! The happy hour buffet on Friday night is really good.
Service is better than average and the menu has lots of choices. There's usually something for everyone. Prices are average.
This restaurant is popular so I recommend making reservations if you can. There's a tortilla baking machine in the lobby that you can watch while passing the time waiting for a table.
PROS: Good food, great bar
CONS: Popular, can be very busy on Friday & Saturday nights
My boyfriend introduced me to the Tandoor over two years ago. We've been going on a regular basis ever since.
The menu is varied and the food is always excellent. Lots of flavor in interesting combinations. Nice selection of beers and homemade desserts.
Run by a local family, the service has been nothing short of excellent. They recognize us when we arrive and always try to give us a table by the window. I never thought I would enjoy being like "Norm" on the TV show Cheers. I love that they know us and always take a little extra time to chat. They had a new addition to their family recently. The last time we were there they asked us if we wanted to go in the back and see their new daughter. Proud Grandpa was taking care of her. It made us feel special and even better about our dining choice.
PROS: Varied menu, fantastic food, great service and family owned & operated
CONS: Can't think of any!
I've been visiting, taking classes and purchasing beading supplies from Beads & Beyond for several years. Their class offerings are really great. Instructors are knowledgeable and there's the added benefit of having the classroom in the same building as the store. If you forget something or want additional supplies, it's easy to get them.
The salespeople are friendly and ready to assist with information and/or suggestions.
PROS: Interesting items not found in other bead supply stores
CONS: Small store, wish they carried a few additional items
I've been using the Hair Chair (inside Kid's Club at Crossroads Mall) for about 3 years. My 7 year old daughter enjoys it and the stylists know how to relate to kids.
Their prices seem reasonable - $20 and all the stylists we've had appeared to be experienced. They offer to add special touches like glitter or a braid for no extra charge. Good experience aimed at kids and their parents.
PS - since the Hair Chair is in Kid's Club, it provides time for parents so that they can shop for clothes, books, toys, etc...I was able to pick up a birthday present while my daughter was getting her haircut. I love knocking off two "to do" items with one stop :-)
PROS: Convienent, moderate price and experienced
CONS: Very popular, hard to get an appointment
