Sensei Mac is loved by his students. A big kid himself, he often works hard on teaching children the important of stranger danger and what if scenarios. There are many classes to select from so you are not locked into a set schedule. If your child is sick on your usual day, you can simply come to another class without any questions or fuss. Sensei Mac, Sensei Eileen, and Sensei Audrey ran a great school that I feel safe having my children attend.
Each class is designed around the children who attend the class so no 2 classes every feel the same. The higher belts are encouraged to teach the lower belts the proper techniques so that they children learn from modeling. There is a special class on Saturdays that works solely on the Kata. The earlier Katas are called Pinon which translates to "safe from harm". Each Kata is important to learn when it comes time for the belt testing. When the child is ready, belt testing usually occurs on the first Saturday of every month.
This is one of the only school with NO CONTRACT obligation. This is important for parents who in the past have been stuck paying out a contract for a child who has lost interest.
Kumo has the freshest tasting sushi that I have had. We order regularly off of their lunch menu which includes amazing specials for $9 - $11. Their Spicy Tuna Rolls are a personal favorite with a light nutty flavor of toasted sesame seeds on the outside for a little added crunch. The avocado used in many of the rolls is creamy and a nice shade of green.
The lunch specials ends are 3:00 PM but where else can you get 24 pieces of sushi, a cup of Miso soup and a salad for only $11 and still have a quality meal. Our personal favorites for this special are the Spicy Tuna, Salmon or Tuna Avocado, and Yellowtail Scallion.
If you are looking for sushi with a little bit more fusion there is an entire section for the more daring. I highly recommend the Godzilla roll.
The atmosphere is urban without being in your face. There is a full bar and sushi bar side by side with tables that can be adjusted to accommodate larger parties.
One great perk about Kumo is that they deliver.
Fresh & Easy is a great store with great deals each week. Milk and eggs always seem cheaper than at the grocery store. Their store brand products tend to be more on the all natural side with natural colors, sweeteners, and fresh ingredients. There is a special area where items about on their last day of expiration or items being discontinued are marked down up to 50% off.
One of the workers named Dee is so friendly. She is usually at the front assisting customers with the automated check out system. She usually has treats for the kids like stickers, coloring pages, and tattoos. She sometimes has coupon treats for the grown ups.
My son has been a patient with Dr Snitchler since he was 5 years old. He loves Dr. Snitchler. The doctor is great with kids and plays games with my son so he does not realize that his time with the doctor is anything more than play. I have noticed a positive change in my son in the past 1 1/2 years that he has been a patient.
Dr Kirmani is the best pediatrician we have ever had. She warmly greets the kids, takes the time to talk with them, and she acknowledges what they are feeling. She knows her stuff in regards to ADHD which was a HUGE plus for us. She does not rush you through your appointment like other doctors we have had. She makes sure that you feel you have had the personal care that your child needs.
In regards to meds, she works with you and explains concerns about side effects clearly. She was able to give us samples for our vacation so that we would not run our mid-trip.
We are moving out of state and we are very sad because we are worried we will not find ourselves another Dr Kirmani.
My children(age 3 and 6) are part of the special program that Go For It Gym has with the Silver Mesa Rec center. They both love going and the coaches are great.
Miss Emily is the coach for the 3 year old and she gets them up and moving. She plays age appropriate music and works with them children on basic techniques and listening skills to get them ready for the higher gym levels. Even the warm ups incorporate imaginative play with pretend pizza making, magic carpet rides, and fishing.
Coach Jonathan works with the older kids and he is patient with all the children. He deals well with special needs children. He doesn't just show the children the how to do, he helps them to understand how their bodies should feel for each move so they gain a better understanding of what to do. Under his old coach, my son struggle with learning the bridge but with Coach Jonathan he was able to do it in 2 sessions.
We have only used the main gym for open play which is on Friday for 5 & under only or Saturdays for all ages. The younger ones get an hour of play and the older ones get 1 1/2 hours. All sessions end with fun in the "foam pit" which the children, regardless of age, all love.
Dr. Adjovu is a fantastic doctor. He was the first doctor that my son visited in years that really understood what was going on with him. He always greeted my son first and talked with him each visit. It saddens me to have to leave his practice but his staff has left me no choice.
In the first week of August, both my children saw the doctor. My son for an appointment which costs $15 and my daughter for a well-check which should have been free. The charged us for both, $30. I told them that we do not pay for well checks. They told us that they cant confirm with the insurance company right now and that if we didn't pay they couldn't treat her. At this visit the doctor said that we could have a paper for the school about my son's condition by the end of August.
In the beginning of September, we return for my son's next appointment. I have with my the papers from the insurance company stating that we should not have been charged for my daughter when we were last there. As we get out of the elevator with 5 minutes until our appointment we pass the doctor in the hall. He gives us a shocked look. He tells me that they said I called and canceled. This was the last appointment on a Friday before a holiday weekend. They apparently lied to him to get out early.
I asked the doctor about the papers for my son's school. He says he can have those ready and we can pick them up any time.
While there, I give them the papers that show we should not have paid. They said they needed to contact the insurance company themselves. They made a call and told me it had to wait until Monday. Monday comes and I do not hear anything. I call them back on Friday when I still haven't heard word. They said that the insurance company hasn't called them but they will get it sorted before my son's next appointment. I asked about the paper for my son and they said I had to talk to the doctor.
Today(Tuesday) I get notice that my son's IEP is this Friday. I call the doctor to try and get the papers again. They tell me that they can have them next week. I explain that I have been waiting since the first week of August for these papers and I need them by Friday. They said that they will have to charge me $60 to have the papers if I want them by Friday because I am giving them short notice. I said, this is not short notice because I requested these papers back in the first week of August. The office has had over 6 weeks to get me these papers. They said I have to make an appointment.
At this point I am angry, I told them that this is a run around between trying to get the papers for my son and the charge not cleared for my daughter. I tried to tell her that I want the doctor and only the doctor to call me back but before I can get it out she hangs up on me.
I called back and told them I want the doctor, and only the doctor to call me. I then call the insurance company to find out how to issue a complaint about being charged for my daughter's visit. The insurance agent informs me that they already know they overcharged me because they sent them the same papers they sent us stating the visit should have been free and on the same date. This date was before the September appointment which means that they lied....again. I filed an official complaint with the insurance company for violation of contract.
It is really sad because Dr. Adjovu is a fantastic doctor but his staff is ruining his practice.
We took the kids for grandma's visit. The parking was oddly marked so we parked on the dirt next to the fence. As soon as we got out of the van we were greeted by 2 wayward peacocks out for a stroll. The smell of urine hits you immediately but it is only by the back building we parked near.
There are more birds than you know what to do with but the constant movement of the birds kept the kids amused and laughing the entire time we were there. My son loved feeding the different kinds of birds especially the baby chicks. The best deal on seed was to buy a cup where you buy the entrance ticket for $1 and they recycle the cups so be sure to bring it back to them. You can also buy food for the goats.
It is a small zoo but they make due with the limit space and funding. There is enough for a small child to enjoy the zoo experience without being bored and you don't feel bad with the price either. They had a senor rate for grandma and there was a 50% off coupon for the kid's ticket online.
The birds did get to be a pain but only for the adults. The kids loved it. It is worth this little annoyance to see the fun your kids will have here.
This particular A & W was very disappointing. Going to this resturaunt you must get A & W Root Beer. However, the root beer I got from this particular location has a faint metallic taste to it. The service itself was extremely slow. I only ordered one drink yet it took 8 minutes to make. I was the only customer there. How it takes 8 minutes to put a cup up to the fountain and fill it is beyond me?
I am sure other locations do not have metallic tasting root beer. It probably has to do with the water quality in the area.
PROS: Name recognition
CONS: Metallic tasting root beer.
This Friendly's is one of the easiest to get to. It is just south off the exit from the New York State Thruway. It is one of the smaller Friendly's locations which is a surprise considering its location. The inside is very clean and there are fun games on the table for you to play while waiting for your food.
The best sandwich in the world here is the Reuben SuperMelt. They make it the right way with sauerkraut and not cole slaw like many places do lately. It is out of this world. You do get their yummy cole slaw as a side.
Dessert is what this place does the best. The Reese's Pieces Sundae is a personal favorite with vanilla ice-cream, chocolate sauce, peanut butter sauce, and Reese's Pieces. They also have sundaes featuring Oreos, Reese's Peanut Butter Cup?, Heath bars and more.
PROS: Great locations.
CONS: Could be bigger.
